My son is ADHD and was having alot of trouble sleping at night and was prescribed clonidine. It had not affect on him and he continued to wake up and wander during the night. I discovered that this medication is a blood pressure medication and our pediatrician was not monitoring him while he was on this. We also have tried the melatonin and he was up to 3mg a night and it had no affect.
i have a 5 year old boy that currently has adhd, but for the past three weeks he has become very very defeint some time to the point that he gets aggressive, could he have odd along with his adhd, right now he is on 40mgs per day of vyvanse for adhd. his doc, gave him .1mg of clonidine to help with his aggreesion. does clonidine help with odd??how long does it take to see improvements??
He is currently taking 20mg of Mediate, 10 mg Abilify, 10 mg Prozac and .5 of clonidine in the morning. He takes a.5 clonidine at noon and at 4:00 P.M he take .5 clonidine and 10 of Ritalin. At bedtime he takes .5 of clonidine and 10 of Abilify. Most evenings he is so tired he wants to go to bed by 7:00 or 7:30.

my son takes clonidine, he has adhd and the drugs he takes to treat the adhd stop him sleeping so he takes the clonidine for that.
didnt know it could be used to help with w/d's, apparently clonidine started life as a treatment for high blood pressure but now has many uses. dont know if there are w/d's from clonidine but my sons doc told us never to take him straight of it because it would cause his blood pressure to rocket.
He is not addicted. It doesn't work that way. I would say that these are signs for someone who needs his medication adjusted. It certainly does sound like an overdose. If he did not have ADHD, that much stimulants would wire him higher than a kite. Since he has gone the opposite way, I think the dosage is too high. This is something that his doctor needs to know about. I also think that there is a serious communication problem going on and I blame that on the doctor.
hi.....i have never used clonidine but it's suppose to be for high BP and also can be used for anxiety from what i've read. I am on a diff med for high BP. Good luck and hope it works for you! i've read that it helps alot of people calm down thru WDs.
My 12 year old son has been diagnosed with a "mood disorder" and ADHD. His father is a rapid cycling bipolar and I see so many of the same bahaviors in my son. How do I get his psych dr to agree to try a mood stabalizer on him? He is currently on Clonidine, Resperidal, and about 6 weeks ago they put him on Adderall as well.

I don't have asthma, or any other conditions. I am not stressed or have any anxiety. I put this in heart disease because I don't know where else to put it.

My 17 year old takes Vyvanse for ADHD and help with anger , he takes that in the morning then at night Clonidine. At night I accidentally gave him Vyvanse and his clonidine because I thought I didn’t give him his meds ( clonidine) but later I checked the morning meds and there was one missing which means I gave him both! Me n him were confused and didn’t realize until the end.

I am working on getting off the pain meds and put on something less addictive, My choice. My doctor has me trying 0.1mg Clonidine along with all the other stuff I take. He told me to break them in half at first. He was saying I should not get sleepy from this. Is this true? Also I take 1 30mg tab in the morning and halves to little less than half about 2 or 3 hours there after of the pain med. When is a good time to take the Clonidine ? Recently my 3 yr old has been going to a psychiatrist and they gave him clonidine for ADHD, he's on the smallest possible dose! It seems to help slow him down but he's still downright mean!!! He doesnt think twice about pulling hair, hitting, pinching, and even biting. Adults and other children. Most of the time he does it when he thinks he is being restrained or when another child is too close, giving him a look or trying to take something away from him. He is such a bully!!
Screaming, yelling, and running around are not products or symptoms of ADHD. ADHD misbehaviors are inattentive behaviors such as talking out of turn, etc... What your son requires is discipline. Perhaps your son requires a more structured school setting like day treatment where there is more structure. But I really think the focus should be more on discipline than medication.
Are you on anything besides the clonidine? It is important for me to know all your meds before I can make a assessment.
