It is now 5 days taking benadryl and the hives and itching have not stopped. What is in the clindamycin that I may be allergic to?

One of the rules of travel and tropical medicine is that a fever in non-native person (not taking malaria prophylaxis) in an area with endemic malaria is malaria until proven otherwise.
In general, symptoms of high fever, neck stiffness, and headache are features of meningitis. And, if confusion (or mental status changes) is present, then we get concerned about encephalitis.
That being said, there are many, many causes of fever and body aches (medical name is myalgias).

Due to this I got to do my blood report only 10 days back where my malaria and G6PD test for malaria came out negative and CBC count came out in normal ranges.Cholestrol normal,sugar normal.Though ESR came out to be higher around 40 (which should had been upto 10) as in my case. Though I have got some relief from diarrhea and itching .
But this time the doctor gave me Clindamycin and the bacteria is going away in the tonsils but not in the back of the throat yet. So I made an appointment next week just in case it is still there and I would have to take prednisone all over again?
has given me 10 days of clindamycin to be taken 3 times a day at a dose of 450 mgs. this is fine, i can take clindamycin with no ill effects.
HOWEVER, i have read that this drug is not commonly used to treat std's as there are so many better options. Is clindamycin going to work??? Thanks.
went to the dentist and he said the infection had gone into my tissue. He put me on Clindamycin on wed.. the lump is still there and the pain had subsided until today. The pain is now really bad. How long does it take for the antibotics to work? have an appt. to have tooth pulled out on the 14th. How long should I give the lump to go down before going to ER for Iv antibiotics?
Malaria infection in pregnant women can be more severe than in nonpregnant women. Ewford's right, babesia is in the same family as malaria -- it's a protozoal infection, not bacterial like Lyme. It needs completely different meds from Lyme.
Malaria is widespread in tropical areas of the world, tho DDT (insecticide spraying) did wonders at reducing the mosquito population decades ago, and it's mosquitos that often carry malaria, just as ticks often carry Lyme.
Hi I am a 26 year old male. I have had the above symptoms for a few weeks now. The blood in the urine is most frequent and usually very red. The blood in the stool hasn't happened for a while, but when it did there was a lot. I thought maybe it was a hemaroid or something, but then the blood in the urine came. Also, I have been getting a bit more tired (although I just started grad school so it could be that). I was a peace corps volunteer for 2 1/2 years and had malaria, was treated.
Then I came out in a rash, so I went to the doctors. They tested for malaria, West Nile fever and dengue fever. I'm still waiting for the results. I started to feel a bit better and the bites had all bar cleared up (it's been about 3 weeks), but yesterday the two worst bite sites started itching again and have gone red and have a lump like another bite in the middle. Could anyone help me with this?
I have clindamycin 300 mg, can I safely double up todays med intake. To be painfree for Christmas plans tomorrow??

Hi and sorry you are ill. Are you in the U.S. now or what country do you reside in? So you don't know if they did a smear for malaria or what. I think you should try to get a PCR test for malaria. Maybe if you can see an infectious disease specialist that would be best. Have you been swimming, wading or washing in fresh water? If not that is good. You should also get a stool sample done a few times for parasites. You could have several things at once.
s office yesterday, and he had to re-open the site of infection and scrape, clean, remove cadaver bone chips, pack with antibiotic and close it up with 4 stitches and a drain. I am also on Clindamycin again. I go back tomorrow to have the drain removed. I was in *horrible* pain yesterday, but today it is quite a bit better.
You will be surprised to know that headache is an important symptom of both cerebral (brain fever) malaria and normal extra cerebral malaria. Some antimalarial drugs can cause headaches. In addition, many patients of malaria suffer from postmalaria neurologic syndrome of which headache is one of the important symptoms.
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult your doctor at the earliest. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Your results are good. It does NOT take 6 months for modern HIV tests to identify you as HIV positive or negative. Your results are good and final. You are HIV negative.
