Avatar m tn what is the chance that I have Colitis, from the Clindamycin? Could colitis be something that could cause epididymitis, or any of my other symptoms?
Avatar m tn I recently had a wisdom tooth extraction and was prescribed Clindamycin to prevent the extraction area from becoming infected. I was prescribed this medication on 5/28/2014. I was directed to take it 3x a day until it was all gone. I took it for about a week straight. I noticed while I was on the medication that I had very severe episodes of diarrhea and stomach cramping. I stopped taking the medication as of yesterday.
Avatar n tn the main reason is that the clindamycin is a very powerful antibiotic (my doctor put me on 450mg of clindamycin) the down side is clindamycin can kill everything in your body. that includes the good bacteria in your intestine called gut flora. if the good bacteria dies it can make way for a bad bacteria that's immune to clindamycin to grow in your intestine. eating the yogurt (especially yogurts with "probiotics" in them) will help keep your gut flora levels up right now.
Avatar f tn Clindamycin is notorious for causing c diff and antibiotic associated colitis....sounds like what you're having. Although typically with c diff and AA colitis you have watery diarrhea before the mucus. What's happening is its stripping the mucus membrane that lines your digestive system. Not fun at all. You need to hydrate yourself as much as you can and go see your doctor. If its severe enough they have medications to stop it, and there are antibiotics specifically for c diff.
Avatar n tn She can do a stool test for something called C. difficile toxin to see if you have the antibiotic associated colitis (pseudomembranous colitis) and she can prescribe an antibiotic for you (usually Metronidazole). I suggest seeing your doctor as soon as possible and not delay, as I can see you have been having trouble for some time by looking at your previous posts.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Erythromycin and following that Clindamycin. Approximately a week after I stopped the medication I had a sudden and severe onset of diarrhea. I waited several days and when it didn't stop I saw a family M.D. He ordered a stool culture and some additional tests on the stool all which came out negative. Initially he thought it was a result of the antibiotics however with the negative lab results he no longer believes this is the problem and wants me to get a colonoscopy.
Avatar m tn Hey there. I know its way over a year since your post, but I was googling "clindamycin ulcerative colitis" and came across your troubles. I too was prescribed clindamycin (in topical form) to treat some dermatitis around my mouth back in Dec 2007. I was a healthy, active 22 year old but I remember I started have bloody mucousy BMs shortly after and heaps of abdominal cramps.
Avatar m tn Hi, I took Clindamycin 300 mg 3x a day. I only finished 12 out of 21 pills as I feared the high risk of colitis associated with this drug. My question is that after stopping the medication about 3 days ago, I am having long (6"+), loose stools. Could this be c. diff? I also have a lot of gas throughout the day, some mild abdominal pain too.
320329 tn?1297768952 Are you sure the C. diff is clear? Any possibility of pseudomembranous colitis? What kind of symptoms are you having?
Avatar n tn Hi seamus178, Since you developed the symptom following the intake of clindamycin, the chances of having clostridium difficle infection is more. Since you are symptomatic you can start on flagyl as it is a very effective drug in the treatment of clostridium difficile infection. ================================================================ The information provided is for patients’ education only and is not a medical advice.
Avatar n tn has given me 10 days of clindamycin to be taken 3 times a day at a dose of 450 mgs. this is fine, i can take clindamycin with no ill effects. HOWEVER, i have read that this drug is not commonly used to treat std's as there are so many better options. Is clindamycin going to work??? Thanks.
1394601 tn?1328032308 Has anyone ever taken Clindamycin for an infection? It is making me so sleepy!!
Avatar m tn I got clindamycin induced colitis 2013, Flagyl helped considerably, but didn't cure me. Dr. says I now have microscopic colitis and treated me with antispasmotics. He says many were cured. Years later I still seem to have it, cramps for no apparent reason, unless I keep up with the antispas. drug, but don't like the side effects. Had a friend who ended up in hosp, close to death got the fecal transplant. 4 weeks later symptoms gone.
Avatar f tn t seem to have problems with doxycycline, amoxicillin or clindamycin. Clindamycin destroys my stomach though. I avoid cipro and zithromax.
948202 tn?1245941816 Also, i use clindamycin phosphate lotion to prevent breakouts during the day. If i add this underneath the clindamycin, will it stop the clindamycin from working? Will the serum cause breakouts? It says it is for all skin types. Should i maybe use the hydrating complex after i use the clindamycin? I am 24 yr old female still experiencing some breakouts. I have not had any breakous for about 2 months since using clindamycin during the day, and sulfacetamide at night.
Avatar n tn I have two failed implants due to infection which did not respond to Clindamycin. I also got a bad reaction to Clindamycin a feeling of big lump in throat, sore throat and severe heartburn. In spite of the fact that I drank at least 10ounces of water with each pill. My question is since I'm allergic to penicillin. What antibiotic is effective for teeth and gum infections???? Thank you.
Avatar f tn Also, the infection has been treated with numerous antibiotics (amoxicillin, flagyl, omnicef, augmentin, clindamycin), and all seem to help at first, but only clindamycin has lasting effects. Not even augmentin worked. Any idea on what kind of bacteria would respond to clindamycin but not augmentin?
Avatar n tn Is an excruciating headache a sign of a reaction to clindamycin? I can't take it anymore, and my CT scan came back clean. I'm on the antibiotic as a preventative measure after sinus surgery (I'm about a week out). There's no infection, and all the drainage, etc. is normal.
Avatar m tn I have googled Clindamycin and found that there is a link between torsades and Clindamycin. Is this drug in the same family as Erythromycin? Should I be safe and stop taking it. I have been taking it for 4 days and have 1 day left. My infection, which wasn't very bad to start with, is now gone. I have been having an increase of bradycardia and PVCs and I am a bit concerned. I don't have an ICD. Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn I've taken Clindamycin and fluconazole to kill a yeast infection. But now my doctor tells me I might possibly get it back because antibiotics can cause yeast infections. I'm not even sure...
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed Clindamycin to clear up a possible tooth infection. I was wondering if anyone has had any heart rhythm problems attributed to antibiotics. I have pvcs/pacs, all tests, ekg, echo has come back completely normal. Im just worried about taking a new medication,, afraid it may cause the palpitations to be worse, better yet cause a dangerous arrythmia!! Any advice would be great!!
Avatar m tn ) On the other hand, would I endanger my health by taking the Clindamycin after so many other recent antibiotic courses (including 16 days of Clindamycin in September)?
72351 tn?1281992542 I wrote in to you and you suggested to try Clindamycin or another drug. I took two of them into the vet to get the Clindamycin. He looked at one and said "oh he just has bad teeth". I thought this is strange as his teeth were fine until he contracted this ailment. He looks at the female and right away and said cancer! He did no biopsy or testing nor did he offer to do such. I find this extremely odd that I would have 4 cats who come down with this baffling ailment at apx.
317787 tn?1473358451 Hey there, I have an abscessed tooth, have been on clindamycin/cleocin for 7 days now, today I have to get the tooth pulled. I can see the infection is still draining. I was wondering if anyone knows what would be the safest antibiotic for me to take, considering that I have cirrhosis. I would appreciate any advice. I had asked for anything in the penicillin family however the doctor gave me the above instead.
