Avatar m tn I finally went to the dr today, I have Clostridium Difficile Colitis and it is from taking Clindamycin it is a severe side effect. So now I am on Vancomycin for the Colitis and 2 other medications for the diarrhea....If you look up Clindamycin you will see that it can cause Colitis.
Avatar n tn She can do a stool test for something called C. difficile toxin to see if you have the antibiotic associated colitis (pseudomembranous colitis) and she can prescribe an antibiotic for you (usually Metronidazole). I suggest seeing your doctor as soon as possible and not delay, as I can see you have been having trouble for some time by looking at your previous posts.
320329 tn?1297768952 Are you sure the C. diff is clear? Any possibility of pseudomembranous colitis? What kind of symptoms are you having?
Avatar f tn Other than antibiotics, immune compromised states, diabetes, proton pump inhibitors, increased age, recent surgery etc.; may be a risk factor for developing pseudomembranous colitis. Enema has not been associated with an increased risk. Hope this information helps. Take care!
Avatar m tn Is the same true if you had Pseudomembranous colitis for 1 year or 2 years and was not treated? My understanding is Pseudomembranous colitis creates Inflammation which creates Swelling. The swelling can lead to permanent damage (scarring). I googled "bowel wall thickening" "When any tissue is exposed to infection or irritation inflammation occurs. Inflammation is the term used to describe the swelling of affected tissue.
Avatar f tn ve had antibiotic-associated pseudomembranous colitis after antibiotics treatment. Bacterial overgrowth test is negative. What is wrong?
Avatar m tn I recently had a wisdom tooth extraction and was prescribed Clindamycin to prevent the extraction area from becoming infected. I was prescribed this medication on 5/28/2014. I was directed to take it 3x a day until it was all gone. I took it for about a week straight. I noticed while I was on the medication that I had very severe episodes of diarrhea and stomach cramping. I stopped taking the medication as of yesterday.
Avatar n tn org/wiki/Clostridium_difficile Antibiotics, especially those with a broad spectrum of activity, cause disruption of normal intestinal flora, leading to an overgrowth of C. difficile, which flourishes under these conditions. This leads to pseudomembranous colitis. C. difficile is resistant to most antibiotics. It is transmitted from person to person by the fecal-oral route.
Avatar f tn Thumbprinting may also be seen with ischemic bowel or mucosal/submucosal hemorrhage. In your case, it is possible you had infectious and/or inflammatory colitis in the past and the active process has since resolved. You can discuss further with your gastroenterologist. If symptoms persist, consider repeat CT enterography, or alternatively MRI enterography.
Avatar m tn Perhaps more importantly, shortly after the shin swelling/discoloration event I was also diagnosed with a Ischemic Colitis and Pseudomembranous Colitis wherein I was treated with two series of Prednisone starting with 80mg per day, weaning the dosage down over the following 6-weeks. After the initial series of Prednisone my symptoms eventually returned wherein it became necessary to repeat the series again.
Avatar n tn Antibiotics rarely help Colitis and usually only exacerbate the condition. You should be on Sucralafate 3 to 4 times a day and be taking a good probiotic, I suggest Culturelle it really works for me. The Sucralafate is taken about an hour before eating and it coats the raw areas of you digestive track allowing food to pass without irritation. This helps the colon heal and the inflammation to recede.

Avatar f tn Clindamycin is notorious for causing c diff and antibiotic associated colitis....sounds like what you're having. Although typically with c diff and AA colitis you have watery diarrhea before the mucus. What's happening is its stripping the mucus membrane that lines your digestive system. Not fun at all. You need to hydrate yourself as much as you can and go see your doctor. If its severe enough they have medications to stop it, and there are antibiotics specifically for c diff.
1418362 tn?1282203044 Prolonged use may result in fungal or bacterial superinfection, including C. difficile-associated diarrhea and pseudomembranous colitis. I suggest you to consult ENT specialist for evaluation sinus block. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn after i had diarrhea for like 10 days i ended up at my regular doctor and found out i had colitis (caused by that bad bacteria) now i have to take yet another antibiotic specific for that. but i am FINALLY feeling better. so again i would suggest eating lots of yogurt right now and spare yourself what i've gone through. also, about the swelling in your cheek. don't be discouraged if it doesn't completely go away in a few days.
Avatar f tn t do it cause I have a 9 month old consists of 2 antibiotics either amoxicillin and erythromycin or tetracycline and flagyl .. and a proton pump inhibitor prilosec . I took it for 4 days and had horrible vomiting and diarrhea and stopped the treatment . now I am on prilosec which doesn't make it worse it blocks the acid in your stomach which h pylori thrives in acidic environments ..
Avatar f tn Hi Nancy - your background of surgeries sounds similar to mine. Colon resection, hysterectomy, plus appendicitis when I was a kid. All that plus a serious intestinal infection about 15 years. (pseudomembranous colitis or c-diff). Over the years I've learned to live with the discomfort and constant worry and fear. I should go to the gastro doctor and get a colonoscopy - it's been about 5 years. But I dread it, and always afraid he will find something bad.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Erythromycin and following that Clindamycin. Approximately a week after I stopped the medication I had a sudden and severe onset of diarrhea. I waited several days and when it didn't stop I saw a family M.D. He ordered a stool culture and some additional tests on the stool all which came out negative. Initially he thought it was a result of the antibiotics however with the negative lab results he no longer believes this is the problem and wants me to get a colonoscopy.
Avatar m tn Hey there. I know its way over a year since your post, but I was googling "clindamycin ulcerative colitis" and came across your troubles. I too was prescribed clindamycin (in topical form) to treat some dermatitis around my mouth back in Dec 2007. I was a healthy, active 22 year old but I remember I started have bloody mucousy BMs shortly after and heaps of abdominal cramps.
Avatar n tn Cipro or Flagyl might be some alternatives to use, but I find Clindamycin generally is quite effective although pseudomembranous colitis can be a complication in rare cases. I would say that if the swelling gets a lot worse or if after 2-3 days it does not improve any, contact the dentist to let them know. It does take some time for antibiotics to reach maximum blood plasma levels. I'm just wondering though if the Amoxicillin will be able to take of it for you.
Avatar n tn It can cause, as with all antibiotics, a severe inflammation of the colon, known as pseudomembranous colitis, which results from bacterial overgrowth in the colon and ranges in severity from mild to life-threatening. In the 38 yrs of my having Crohn's, I have never heard of this drug being prescribed for Crohn's, although it is not outside the realms of possibility that someone with Crohn's may have used it.
Avatar n tn I had severe pseudomembranous colitis from clostridium difficile three years ago and have wondered if that has anything to do with the yeast infection. I have hypothyroidism, but have had it under control for three years with Synthroid. I have been on a no-carb diet along with an alkaline diet for five months. I gave up alcohol, coffee and sugar five months ago. I take Yeast-Cleanse, sublingual vitamin B, Biotin, Garlic, Acidolphus, Lactobacillus Sporogens, and Noni juice.
Avatar m tn Hi, I took Clindamycin 300 mg 3x a day. I only finished 12 out of 21 pills as I feared the high risk of colitis associated with this drug. My question is that after stopping the medication about 3 days ago, I am having long (6"+), loose stools. Could this be c. diff? I also have a lot of gas throughout the day, some mild abdominal pain too.
Avatar f tn t seem to have problems with doxycycline, amoxicillin or clindamycin. Clindamycin destroys my stomach though. I avoid cipro and zithromax.
