Common Questions and Answers about Citalopram for add

Avatar m tn Also, Ive had constant sweating, and this is a problem since I live in the Caribbean where is very hot and humid. I talked about this with my psychiatrist, he insist that i try Citalopram for another whole month before switching. What could be another alternative for Citalopram? and, Is the abnormal sweating normal or supposed to go away? if not, what could be an alternative for it?
Avatar n tn I found absolutely nothing in the medical literature that contraindicates exercising after taking citalopram. For further reassurance, speak with your doctor or local pharmacist. For those of us with anxiety, the very worst place for us to get information is on the Net. To say there is a lot of wrong information out there is putting it mildly. In future, if you have questions, contact your pharmacist. They are, in my opinion, the best resource for information.
Avatar f tn We can add citalopram to the mood tracker for you, though. We'll let you know when it's available. Thanks for the suggestion!
Avatar f tn The question is, if I combine a norepinephrin reuptake inhibitor with my SSRI, would it be okay, or it would cause problems? Another question, are NSRIs indicated for OCD with ADD, or they're just for depression, panic disorders and fibromyalgia?? Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn I'm 21 and since year 1 in primary school, I've been struggling to stay focused.. My teachers and parents have always went mad because "I don't focus"..   It has always been hard for me to finish my homework, or my studying without my mothers help; she has always set the plans and helped me arrange my time.. She has usually sat next to me and read my studies with me.. Otherwise, I'd get totally dissociated, not to mention the total lack of motivation to do anything..
Avatar f tn citalopram is the generic for celexa an antidepressant. I would think the valuim would be more for anxiety. valium is more to calm u down. I take celexa 40mg and thats the right amount for me they had me on 60mg and ended up getting seratonin syndrome, which sucked! I was also on ativan 2mg for anxiety which didnt seem to control the anxiety at all. Last week my dr (by my persuasion) put me on 2mg 3 times a day of klonipin. I only need a half a piil 2-3 times a day for all day relief.
Avatar m tn Now I have been taking SSRI (Zoloft/sertraline) for a month and a half, and have had three outbreaks since I started. Obviously I suspect a connection. I had a period of very frequent (every other week) outbreaks a couple of years ago - although I had had herpes for many years already then. When thinking about it, I wonder if it could have been at the time that I was taking SSRIs (Cipramil/citalopram) the last time...
653999 tn?1225020086 I'm still not convinced after 8 weeks on the Citalopram that it's the right drug for me but my doctors keep telling me to bear with it. I've been up and down like a yo-yo so if nothing else it'll be interesting to see how you get on.
495402 tn?1220621003 After taking 10mg of citalopram for 6 evenings in a row, I can say that it has started to work. I have not cried for two days and I am not depressed looking at dishes anymore. I was actually able to happily cook some delicious lunch for my son and me today. So even my motivation has come back. I don't feel sorry for myself anymore and I am not grumpy nor snappy either.
Avatar n tn Focalin XR 20 mg caused me to have sever anxiety attacks at night, caused restlessness , but it did its job for my ADD it affected the rest of my life very badly because my hands and extremities where turning pale and felt numb. To treat the anxiety i started on Citalopram and this medication only made me very tired. (falling asleep in class). after talking with my counselor i started back on Add meds 2 days ago starting at 50mg Vyvanse.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Fluoxetine about 6 months ago for (ironically) compulsive eating and low mood. I had terrible side effects for the first month (exhausted, depressed, just wanted to lie in bed all day). The only plus was that I lost my appetite. I stuck it out and once the side effects cleared I felt great - more sociable/connected to people and increased confidence (and libido!).
Avatar f tn I have been to the doc and she found liquid in my ear and thought this was causing my brain fog (hard to concentrate, lightheaded, hard to focus, memory is off, feel like a zombie) well she gave me nasal spray and sudafed and that did nothing for the fog.
Avatar f tn I read that ADD medications can cause OCD symptoms, what should I do?? Please help me, and sorry for the long entry! But REALLY need help!

Avatar n tn I have been on citalopram long term for 12 years however after a really severe depressive episode my mood has lifted a bit but my anxiety has been elevated as my doctor decided to change my dose 6 times in 8 weeks. I've been on an even dose for 5 weeks now but things haven't really improved, I was given diazepam but I was resistant to take it because of its addictiveness.
Avatar n tn I went to go see a psychiatrist about this and told her that I and depressed and about the school stuff, but they don't think I have ADD or ADHD, but I can't pay attention for the life of me and I used some of my friends (to try once) and I was totally into school (I didn't tell themI tried it and it worked, however). I believe if I was on a 15mg xr daily I would be much better in school.
Avatar f tn My doctor has prescribed to me provigil to relieve the feeling of constantly feeling tired and sleepy, but I am not sure it will help with memory retention and memory retrieval, so I was looking to also add something else to stabilize my memory.
Avatar m tn They and my family doc prescribed a generic med called citalopram that I am taking for 30 days and if it doesn't help then they will ok the Cymbalta. Actually so far the Citalopram IS helping!!!! Thank you so much for your help and asking. Have a GREAT HOLIDAYS!!!!!
Avatar f tn Just by the comments on this website and in general Zoloft is probably the best of the ssris for anxiety. Prozac tends to be stimulating, so it is generally not as good, but when it works it's great because it has the least problems with stopping. Effexor is very stimulating, as it also targets adrenalin, so it's not usually prescribed for primary anxiety. It's a very hard drug to stop taking, so taper off slowly.
Avatar m tn They both also have CNS side effects of anxiety in the beginning stages of treatment. You say you've been on the citalopram for approximately 5 weeks? It can take up to 35 days for citalopram to reach "steady state" in your blood, which means you won't begin to feel any real relief from your depresson for possibly a bit over a month. Which is exactly where you are now. In my humble and non-medical opinion, I would give the Celexa another few weeks and see how you feel then.
1069644 tn?1276932463 I have only been taking it as needed but it only helps for a short period of time. Should I take it every 12 hours no matter what? I don't want to get dependent on Xanax but I also want to stop having the attacks. I was on Klonopin for years and stopped taking it about 2 years ago. Thinking of going back to that instead of the Xanax. I go back to work tomorrow (off three weeks for surgery)and am afraid the Xanax won't last long enough to get me through the day.
335728 tn?1331418012 I would appreciate it if you could put the following in your referral letter so that Dr. B will know what I have been dealing with for the past 22 months and I was told that if the details are included in your letter that I will be seen sooner by Dr. B. I was diagnosed in 1993 with MS by Dr. *.*.W. My disease has been in remission and I have been under the care of Dr. *.M until October 2006.
105924 tn?1217611549 This laughing thing is a pleasant surprise, though. Hope it lasts for the next six months!!! All the best, Shanaenae. Thanks for the open thread. Be well, everyone.
Avatar n tn I thought I was going to go crazy without sleeping properly, and at the same time I did not want to rely on medication to help me sleep. I was fearful of having to rely upon it for sleep. I would also like to add that I do yoga and meditation daily. In addtion, I do running in the forest and strength training 3-4 times a week. I also suffer from periods of depression and feel that exercise is of the utmost important for both depression and anxiety.
Avatar f tn Individual herbs aren't how herbalism is practiced, instead combinations are used. It would be something directly for anxiety, something for depression, something for your adrenals, possibly something to clean out you liver, exercise, meditation, diet. It's very unlikely one herb will solve such complex problems. It's more of a process. Damiana is generally used for male energy.
Avatar m tn Is the citalopram (Celexa) working? Citalopram is an SSRI antidepressant that has some anti-anxiety properties. All SSRI antidepressants require a good 2 months to start working. If her depression is not improved, her doctor should try another antidepressant in the group, or perhaps try an SNRI -- similar, but works on an additional neurotransmitter. Coumadin is an anticoagulant or what is commonly known as a "blood thinner." I despise that term -- no medication thins the blood.
365714 tn?1292202708 For treatments I don't see citalopram (Celexa) listed. Also it be nice to have dosage mentioned somewhere.
Avatar m tn I think I went a little overboard will the fiber which made me very gassy and hurt my stomach. I took the 20mg citalopram for about 4 days and could not sleep and also started to develop this aching pain in my ribs, sternum and across my chest. I stopped taking the citalopram yesterday and I am hoping that the pains will go away, but my stomach still hurts and I am still constipated. Every time I go to the bathroom only a little bit comes out, but it doesn't hurt or anything.
Avatar m tn Much of PAWS is thought to come from reduced activity of the brain's frontal cortex, leading to depressed mood but also symptoms similar to ADD. Lexapro is a good medication for mood and anxiety. I hope things work out for you-- be sure to give the lexapro at least two months, as it takes some time to star t doing anything. Also, a double dose of citalopram is almost exactly the same as the lexapro-- and costs about 1/20th of the price (4 bucks per month at Walmart or Target).
