Avatar n tn You might want to consider going on a med that is technically an antidepressant, but is used at a different dose for treating pain associated with IBS. Examples of this would include Amitriptyline and Nortriptyline. Acidophilus is a group of probiotics.
Avatar f tn Am off to docs this week and I know she,ll probably tell me off for stopping and starting hrt again, and suddenly starting back on citalopram , think probably a lot my problems/symptoms are stress related, bad stomach, headaches, sleeplessness. Am sick of feeling so unwell, maybe its normal and to be expected all these problems as we get older? Anyway if anyone here knows if its safe to take "nightnurse" capsules with the meds Im currently on I would be very gratefull.
634733 tn?1316625992 Thanks for the info you gave me on Citalopram it seems I can’t take it. I’ve had the most horrible side effects. I already suffer with really bad acid reflux (diagnosed as IBS co they couldn’t find anything else). Well this drug gave me acid to die for – pains in the neck, back, stomach under my ribs; I thought I was having a heart attack!! The acid is so bad at the moment it is making me cough when it hits my throat and the pain – well – and its been 36 hours since I took a tablet.
Avatar f tn I am seeing the nurse practicianer (SP?) today for a med check. They told me not to take the citalopram last night and see how it goes. I work with the worst panic attack this morning. I am feeling a little lost and hopeless as to what to do now.
Avatar f tn My dad was diagnosed with cancer, fortunatley he fought it off and is ok now, also My grandma died in Hospital, I went to visit her 4 nights a week for 3 months, which was a strain, and when I think about it now I get very upset. Over the last month or so, I have been experiencing some issues with my bowel movements and stomach. I have always gone to the toilet 4-5 times a day altinating between good and loose never any blood!!
Avatar f tn Hello everyone I started having severe anxiety attacks two month ago, though I have suffered with anxiety my whole life. I have been on Citalopram for four days now and the side effects seems to be increasing. I am on a small dose, one quarter of a 20 mg tablet. I am suppose to go up to one half of a 20 mg tab today but am afraid to. I am jittery, have headaches, am groggy but panic when I try to sleep, have heat flashes through my upper body, my eyes feels strange...the list goes on.
Avatar m tn im 32 with peroximal AF, an enlarged right atrium and a postierior fasicular block, i take 20mg of citalopram a day too and have IBS.
974371 tn?1424653129 I have not heard of Prozac(fluoxetine) being used for treatment of IBS. Citalopram(Celexa), Paroxetine(Paxil) are the 2 we're familiar with prescribing here in Upstate NY.....However, Paroxetine has some nasty side effects..... And I've not heard of Neurontin being used for IBS either.....I agree the dietary changes are a better bet to manage symptoms.....
Avatar f tn I have days where I think my world is going to crash around me. But it does pass and things go back to as normal as tx will allow. Comes and goes in waves. If you think you can benefit from an AD then see your doctor. In my case no, but many do. It isn't that I'm opposed to them, they just don't work for me. Unfortunately, AD's are not a cure all for everyone, depends on the individual.
Avatar m tn 1 mixture of (S)-Citalopram and (R)-Citalopram]; Escitalopram [(S)-Citalopram) is a pure enantiomer. The dosages for Escitalopram are typically 1/2 of those for Citalopram, and there are fewer side effects, suggesting that most side effects come from the (R)-enantiomer.'' Basically escitalopram is the new citalopram with less side-effects and requires only half the dosage and I think it is the reason for it's cheaper price. -http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn Why was your mother prescribed this medication? It is prescribed for many reasons, high blood pressure, anxiety, cluster headaches, and tremors. It does have a break-in period, and low energy, and sleepiness are part of the break-in period, which can take up to 6 weeks. I have never heard of it being prescribed for depression, but rather anxiety. I think she needs to return to her doctor to re-evaluate this medication.
Avatar f tn I just saw a new doctor and he believes the Citalopram is causing my weight gain. I have been on it for about 18 months. I am now taking half a pill of Citalopram in order to wean myself off of it. My doctor then prescribed me Bupropion HCL (take twice a day). He says that should help with weight loss. Has anyone had good experiences with Bupropion? Did you gain weight on Citalopram? Thanks!!!
Avatar m tn After stopping all meds and getting a colonoscopy and blood tests nothing was found. He now states I have IBS and put me on SSRI Citalopram. HELP! This discussion is related to Possible side effect of Lipitor and Vytorin on Liver / Body.
Avatar m tn Both citalopram, (Celexa) and escitalopram, (Lexapro) are SSRI's and both have, as unlabeled uses the control of panic. They both also have CNS side effects of anxiety in the beginning stages of treatment. You say you've been on the citalopram for approximately 5 weeks? It can take up to 35 days for citalopram to reach "steady state" in your blood, which means you won't begin to feel any real relief from your depresson for possibly a bit over a month.
Avatar f tn I think thats why my doctor try the zoloft again because i am thinking i am itching and i am not really having reaction to the medicine but he said you do have sentitvie to medicine that why he had a backup medcine for me. my question is anybody taking Zoloft 25mm or Citalopram 20mm before and any side effects from these medicine? also any tips on controling my anxiety and depression ?
Avatar m tn Impossible to predict. Twitches/tremors are things that are associated with SSRI's they are things I've had in past, but they are no problem now. Citalopram failed me after 3 yrs, went on to Effexor XR & that works for me.
476246 tn?1418870914 1) Citalopram Hydrobromide Tablets, 10 mg, NDC # 57664-507-13, Lot #: 82577A - This lot is being recalled because some of the tablets are oversized or undersized, which will result in patients not receiving the expected dose. 2) Citalopram Hydrobromide Tablets, 40 mg, NDC # 57664-509-88, Lot # 81940A - This lot is being recalled because it does not meet manufacturing standards. Avatar f tn It worked well for me when i remembered to take it. You have to give it at least a week for it to kick in. I don't think i felt the affects of it at all until i ended up increasing it to fast. I went up to 2 pills of 40 mg and i found it worked well for me. But if you are looking for somethign that you want a instance or close to it anti - anxiety, you need to ask your doctor to give you pills that are not SSRI.
1767754 tn?1313873884 It came back positive for bppv, but the doc also said it showed some CNS stuff. I wondered if this was the case for you or for anyone else taking citalopram--if it can cause nerve stuff.
2062662 tn?1331308846 I have been taking it for two months. I have been taking Advil and Tylenol with no problems. You can call the pharmacy and they can tell you for sure.
Avatar f tn Hi, I take this anti depressant and it's working well for me. I've been taking it for about 2 years now. I think it works well for my depression. I take a couple of pain meds now because my pain is kind of out of control. I was diagnosed with fibro 11 years ago. I also have arthritis and degen. disc disease, so my pain isn't controlled by the Celexa. As I said though, the depression is pretty well controlled by it. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn hi, I've been on citalopram 20mg for just under 3weeks for my anxiety. just wondered if anyone had any good results from this medication and how long it took to work?
1110049 tn?1409402144 i was on citalopram 10mg for 9 days will i withdrawl if the doctor stopped me cold turkey and what will i encounter
Avatar n tn hi, I've been on citalopram for 5 weeks now for my anxiety. I upped the dosage from 20mg to 40mg a week ago but have just been feeling mind numb since. is it possible for the meds to take longer to start working?
695983 tn?1242774124 If you been on the meds for a while then you are getting ill, chances are it's not the med. Have you been on other meds in this class before? Citalopram is a good drug and the side effects are pretty minimal for most. I would get a full check up to make sure you rule out bladder/kidneys infections. Anxiety can cause tummy troubles, I've had the trots from anxiety in the past, and I've had peed more from that as well.
