Cipro vs bactrim

Common Questions and Answers about Cipro vs bactrim

cipro

Avatar n tn Your doc has to isolate the type of infection and then treat it. I would bet that Bactrim will work if the Cipro/Levaquin class of drugs do not.
Avatar f tn The doc there gave me scripts for Bactrim AND Cipro- for 2 weeks. They had me take some while there and when I got home I read about Bactrim (I already know the dangers of Cipro) Long story short, among the many problems and side effects associated with Bactrim, it says to let your doctor know if you have thyroid problems....also that it can cause permanent tinnitus. I was reading this AFTER I noticed that my ears were ringing louder after taking it.
Avatar n tn Think it was a reaction to Bactrim, so the doctor switched me to Cipro. Still didn't get better. Eventually got some prednisone and hydroxyzine to treat it. It definitely helped - but didn't clear it up all the way. Now I have a sinus infection and have been prescribed Cipro again. If it was the Bactrim in the first place, am I likely to be allergic to Cipro too? Also curious if seasonal allergies might manifest themselves this way.
1090984 tn?1463769850 i got it after I had the flu this summer. I was first on cipro, then bactrim then back to cipro but I got so sick on that cirpo so I stopped everything. Now I am back being treated again going on my 2nd round of bactrim DS and using some kind of pretreated wash clothes of peroxcide and something else. This is not going away! I am scared now.
Avatar m tn So I went to the doctor and did a urine test which was negative for bacteria. So I was given 10 days of cipro. I took the cipro as indicated and still was not better, also started having testicle pain, pelvic pain, lower back pain perineal pain, and abdominal pain, also felt like prostate was inflamed. I had no discharge and did not burn when urinating. I went back to the doctor and was told I had prostatitis. Psa was normal and dre was normal.
Avatar m tn 3 weeks ago I was prescribed Ciproflaxcin for a prostatsis, I took the Cipro for about a week and a half when I about 5 days into the prescription I began to experience major burning pain in my muscles, joints, and neck. After day 9 the pain was unbearable so I stopped and three days later went to the ER for treatment, I told them I had a bad reaction to the Cipro so they changed my prescription to Bactrim which almost immediately dropped my pain level from a level of 8 to a 2 on a 1-10 scale.
Avatar m tn Hello. About 4 years ago after lifting a heavy item I had some left testicle pain that was diagnosed as epididymitis, the doctor at the time told me to take Advil and go easy for a while and it cleared up a few weeks later. 2 years ago I had left testicle pain, a different doctor did an ultrasound to check for a hernia and when it came back negative gave me the same advice and it cleared up in a few weeks.
Avatar n tn still mild symptoms...followed by 30 days of cipro. My gp followed that with 14 days of bactrim. I drank some beer durning the doxy and cipro...none during the bactrim. I still have very mild symptoms. My question. After all of the antibiotics, is there still and chance of Chlamydia or other STD? The doctor says no but has never tested because of the antibiotics that I took.
Avatar f tn Please be very careful with Cipro. Look up all the side effects of this on the computer ASAP. I was on cipro 250mg for one month then doctor raised it to 500mg. I no sooner took the larger dose than I started to jerk in sleep and had problems with numbness/tingling in both arms from elbow to finger tips. Shook like i had parkinsons. I will NEVER take cipro again!
Avatar m tn A week and a half into taking the antibiotic I began to feel burning muscle pain as well as neck and joint pain. I also had my appetite killed with Cipro I really didn’t eat in that period. Prior to this I had none of these symptoms and when I stopped taking Cipro and started taking the bactrim the pains I had originally were reduced by a large amount. They are still there but not as vivid as when I was taking Cipro. My appetite has returned.
Avatar n tn Hello, I'm a 30 year old, heterosexual male. For a little more than two weeks, I have noticed mild pain on the right side of my penis (penile head), urge to urinate, and mild burning around the anus. The pain is not sensitive to the touch. Six months ago, I had a full STI test, including HSV 1 and 2, everything was negative. About a month ago, I received oral sex. That's the only sexual activity I've had.
Avatar n tn s an infection and since I could not tolerate the cipro he has put me on Bactrim for thirty days. I started the Bacrtim about five days ago and since have been extremely tired and I am still experiencing the symptoms of what my Dr. thinks is an infection. My questions are one: is there an other cause for my symptoms, which include frequent painful urination and mildly painful ejaculation?
Avatar f tn thanks i will mention 2 ob cipro ,somethings gotta heal this b4 i go crazy !
250398 tn?1225263291 ll be a couple of months before I am back to a place I can see a doctor that I would feel comfortable understands me. Lucky I guess that I have the Bactrim and Cipro with me. Discharge seems to be much less and more cloudy to clear than white now, after 1.5 days on the two Antibiotics. But, still sore in the lower abdomen. Maybe a bladder infection. Thanks again.
Avatar f tn I went to GP, he prescribed me a bunch of antibiotics (Cipro, Bactrim, Macrobid), none of them work. Fast forward, went to see my GYN, she did a urethral swab and urine culture. My right part of urethra feels tender per GYN. The swab for STD/STI were negative. However, my urine came back positive for E.Coli. So I was prescribed Cipro, but I had an allergic reaction to it. So now I am on Keflex 4x a day for 7 days. Today is 2nd day, I still feel the pain.
Avatar m tn new diagnosis - prostatitis. Doc gave me cipro and doxy 8 days with no result. Bactrim for 10 days, no result. As I live in Africa, I went to Portugal to get a second opinion, and the doctor gave me levo for 20 days; no result. Afterwards tried another uru, and he told it was all about the food I was I taking, had a huge diet lost 7 kilos, no result.
Avatar f tn I guess my question is, do std symptoms come and go like mine have, and would the cipro have gotten rid of anything that I may have gotten, also could the cipro and bactrim be causing the rash?
Avatar n tn ” I’m not sure what that meant but he said I had prostatitis and gave me a 10 day cycle of cipro. The cipro took away all the symptoms in about 4 days. On the fifth day, I went back to the urologist for a cystoscopy to make sure the bladder was OK, which it was. I told him the cipro worked and he gave me 10 more days to be sure. After the 20 days, I felt good. About 3 days later, I had a day where I felt like it was coming back but it didn’t.
Avatar n tn He put me on Bactrim for 2 weeks which really did not do anything for me...after bactrim he put me again on cipro and after 2 weeks a i developed prostatitis which is basically an infection in the prostate. finally after 3 weeks i feel better but still not fully recoverd from epidymitis ....in sum... i have been 2 monthsn on antibiotics and only 75% better. this is a long process.
Avatar f tn December 16, 2016, diagnosed with UTI was placed on the antibiotic Bactrim, symptoms did not go away went to the walk in clinic they repeated the urine and it showed UTI. Placed me on Cipro symptoms were not any better, culture from walk in showed contamination so they wanted to repeat the specimen. Went to the clinic and gave a repeat specimen, it showed Entercoccus was placed on Augmentin. From research I have found that the only thing that works on Entercoccus bacteria is vancomycin.
Avatar n tn I went to the urologist and he sent for a test on my urine for STDs, I am really scare because he mention Chlamedia and may be a cause for the prostatitis. I discontinued the Bactrim after a week due to alergy end was giving Cipro 500mg. Is Cipro effective for Chlamedia on a 14 Days twice a day dose?
Avatar f tn I'm currently taking an antibiotic (Bactrim), was prescribed the med for 10 days. I'm on the 7th day, and I've suddenly developed cramping in my arms and legs. Muscle and joint pain is a listed side-effect on my meds. I'm wondering how concerned I should be about this? Should I continue to take the meds? Would my doctor tell me to quit them? I'd really like to get through them, but don't want to damage my body taking them.
Avatar n tn I was told to continue my dosage of Cipro adn to take Benadryl. After I was done with the Cipro, I still had hives. My hives would be very itchy, swollen adn would come on one part of my body, then after a couple of minutes dissapear and appear on another part. I was given Preginsone for 5 days and continued with the Benadryl. This did nothing. Then I was given Reactin which helped reduce the amount of hives and the itch. I was on Reactine for a bit over a week.
Avatar m tn Good news from the procedure is that I do not have any bladder cysts or urethral strictures. Bad news is I have a very inflamed prostate and urethra. So far I have taken Cipro (two rounds; 10 days and 21 days), Bactrim (14 days), and Flomax throughout all without much benefit. I am supposed to have a semen culture done in a week to see exactly what the bacteria is. My question is if anyone has had a bad case of prostatitis and urithritis and what the outcome was? Thank you for your help.
Avatar n tn Update Went to doc, did a regular urinalysis which was clear, told me it was prostatitis, I explained the nature of the encounter and the timeline from that poin on to them, prescribed me cipro for 4 weeks on 12/2/09. Took the cipro, sysmptoms went away, finished cipro, came back 12 days later, which was last week. I took the doxy again, 2 pills twice a day, today is my last day.
