Common Questions and Answers about Celexa zaps

celexa

222417 tn?1241564300 But recently I have changed meds from Anafranil to Celexa I am still on Klonopin. But these symptoms have gotten pretty bad. I have them basically allday everyday since I have started Celexa. Can this be what is causing these symptoms. I hope someone can answer. Symptom is like a electric shock in nature and I can actually hear it. Thanks in advance to any replies.
Avatar n tn Instead of giving me beta blocker to take before performances, which is what I expected (and should have gotten), she diagnosed me as having generalized anxiety disorder and put me on low-dose Celexa (10 mg/day). I had horrible side effects (mostly gastrointestinal and sleep disturbances) but I kept with it as she indicated, for 6 months.
Avatar n tn When I go off of it I get these (electrical zaps, zings) in my ears and head. Is this what you mean by head zaps? I had to go from Effexor right to Citalopram 20mg. It's been 2 days on Citalopram and I am starting to hear these head zings. Should I ask for a larger dose or increase # of times I take it a day? I can't function with these zings going on.
484508 tn?1290010544 I am not sure if Celexa can have that much effect on zaps so quickly. Your pharmacist is also an excellent source of info as they see many people on the drug and have access to online info.
Avatar n tn I just got off my Celexa. I tapered off of it slowly over about two, two 1/2 months. I did have some side effects. A little "crabby" but mostly just dizzy at times or some "zaps" I think the way I tapered off it worked well. I have gotten off of other medications with much worse withdrawals. I think it depends on the medication and how you are getting off of it. Celexa wasn't bad to get off of Paxil was terrible.
Avatar m tn I am also on celexa with Klonopin. The zaps only lasted a month or so and were not that intense. How long since you switched meds? Just starting a new SSRI can cause those too. In any case, they do go away.
Avatar f tn I went on Celexa about 2 years ago for anxiety and decided to go off last week as my life situation has calmed down and also because I really didn't think I could afford it anymore. I didn't realize, however, the side effects of going off this drug....if you look at the list of possible side effects I think I've had all of them except thoughts of suicide (although through the puking and pain death didn't sound so bad!
Avatar n tn I never knew how to describe what I was feeling till I read about brain zaps. They come and go, may have them one day and the next day they are gone. Had them for all ten years. Why do they come and go? and is their anything I should do?
1128565 tn?1316721143 It can take a couple of days for your body to metabolize the medications out of your system. Celexa 20 mg. is a rather mild dose and perhaps your doctor has prescribe this dosege to increase to 40 mg in a couple or weeks or a "maintance dosage". Either way, I do not think I would stop taking my medication without speaking with my doctor as depression can sneak up on you fairly quickly.
Avatar n tn Then cut one pill in half and took it every other day for a week, then every third day for 2 weeks, and now after a month I feel its safe to say that I took my last pill finally - yippee!!! Unless the brain zaps and nauseau get unbearable again. What I took to ease the pain of the brain zaps, nauseau and mood swings is this: Clonezepam .05 mg, B12 and Fish Oil supplements, and dark chocolate always heps me with mood swings.
Avatar n tn i have been on celexa for 2 years and weened off it and i am still having the shock feeling and fatigue and so on how long will this last?
Avatar f tn Has anyone else suffered "head zaps" or tingling and pressure? It's really bothersome and effects my lifestyle greatly. It mostly happens at night or when I'm trying to relax or I'm anxious.
Avatar n tn i tapered very slowly and had horrible headaches and brain zaps that were very very scary. While tapering my doctor put me on 20 mg of prozac and I think that helped somewhat. but three months later im still having occasional brain zaps Are these symptoms going to be permanent? im afraid that the effexor has done damage to my brain.
1305767 tn?1361192676 I'm on 40 mg. of Citalopram and I haven't had it in two days because even though it's only 4 bucks at Walmart I don't even have 4 stinking dollars. The brain zaps are the worse plus I'm irritable and want to cry all the time.
Avatar n tn I have not been on any Cymbalta for a week and a half - trying to get it out of my system completely, but I am having very bad withdrawls. I have head zaps - especially when I move my eyes from left to righty, my head is foggy to the point that I lose my train of thought or have no train of thought, I am very tired - but it is starting to effect my every day life. What can I do? I have called my OB in hopes that she can help me, but I want to feel normal again.
1305767 tn?1361192676 I've just started taking it after trying numerous other drugs for anxiety. (Lexapro, Celexa, Paxil, Remeron) Right now I don't like how shortly after taking a 10 mg pill I get dizzy and "brain zaps" (which is normally a symptom of SSRI discontinuation). These side effects go away within a couple of hours but I am curious if Buspar has helped anyone with their anxiety in the long run or am I just wasting my time with this drug.
222417 tn?1241564300 Hello all. I am a long time sufferer from anxiety and depression. Since I was first diagnosed I started to have some weird symptoms it is like some kind of head shocks I used to get them maybe once a month but now I am getting them everyday constantly. It seems to involve my eye movements anyways I really don't like them. And by the way I have switched from Anafranil to Celexa so I don't know if this is the reason for this strange sensation.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Celexa for about 4 months now, and I'm thinking about stopping it. I've gained over 10 pounds, but the worse side effect I'm having is joint and muscle pain. The joint pain is keeping me from doing a lot of things I like or need to do. It started 2-3 months ago....just out of the blue. I've been off Celexa for the past 6 days because I ran out of it and had no refills--until I went to my psy. doctor and spent $90 for him to write me a prescription. (Ugh!
484508 tn?1290010544 It has been 4 days and I have no cravings but after the 1st day, I got a horrendous non stop cough, and now the cough has stopped but I am sneezing and feel like I have a minor cold, plus, I am a bit depressed and anxious in spite of Celexa.. I also have a headache. My friends say that the cold symptoms are coincidental, but I say no. And my Celexa has suddenly given me brain zaps. Maybe I am totally bongers, but would love feedback.
646410 tn?1247251853 I was getting brain zaps while getting off Prozac, Effexor (the worst!), and even Cymbalta.
Avatar n tn I was lucky and had no pings or zaps, so there is no reason to cold turkey off Celexa, when you may avoid some or all withdrawals with a taper. Doc told me I could alternate between the taper dose and the last week's dose to ease the taper in, if side effects started. I think I was told that SSRI are not addictive, so you don't have to worry about some habit nagging away at you (like cigarette withdrawals would be like) while you go off Celexa.
1199542 tn?1267016364 I am familiar with the common side effects of sertraline (Zoloft) withdrawal being surges/zaps/shocks in the head, anxiety, low energy, lack of attention, sadness, etc... ...I have not refilled my prescription yet, and have been Zoloft-less for about 10 days now, where I was taking 150 mg for over a year.
Avatar n tn anxiety, brain zaps, feeling dizzy, nausea, intrusive thoughts and depression. Mind you, this anxiety is beyond what I experience. I also feel like I'm not "all there." My brain feels really slow. I was practicing yoga last night and forgot how to step into a lunge. How am i experiencing this after ONE WEEK of the med?! I was off of Effexor for 2 days before starting Cymbalta and that was giving me vicious withdrawals. I was on that for 6 weeks and felt like I was actually dying.
Avatar n tn I took Celexa for 10days 10mg. I could not handle it. I tapered off it and have been off for a total of 10days and started having brain aches and zaps which scarred me. My family doctor who had prescribed the Celexa for Anxiety and Panic says the aches and shocks are not withdrawls symptoms but something else, he stated I was not on them long enough to have withdrawls. I just can't beleive that it is not related to the Celexa or Anxiety. Anyone else have these issues?
Avatar f tn I don't know why you are getting these side effects but I can tell you I got off Lexapro about 3 weeks ago because of sexual side effects. I am now on wellbutrin xl and I feel great! I weened off the lexapro, a half a day for 1 week than a half every other day for one week.
