Celexa for panic

Common Questions and Answers about Celexa for panic

celexa

Avatar f tn You've asked the perfect questions about Celexa. It was prescribed to me months ago but haven't taken it yet. Afraid to. It was also given to me for panic attacks. I hear mixed messages about it, but everybody that I've heard stuff from was using it for depression. I'm wondering if it has the same effect on people taking it for depression as it does on people taking it for anxiety/panic. I'll keep checking this post and please let me know if you do take it and how you feel.
Avatar f tn I just started Celexa, 20 mg, I was switched from Fluoxetine 60 mg because I was still having panic attacks really bad. I was wondering, this is just my third day on Celexa which I had a good day today without being anxious at all, but then tonight I had a panic attack, is there anything that works better then Clonazepam to help dealing with panic attacks?? I was just curious since my doctor is so afraid of using Clonazepam at high doses, I only take .
Avatar m tn Same question -- did the Celexa stop working? Did you taper off it or switch suddenly to Prozac? Celexa tends to be a better med generally for anxiety than Prozac because Prozac tends to be stimulating, though Prozac is considered an easier med to take and especially to stop taking.
Avatar f tn She does have to use Xanax every now and then with it when anxiety/panic attacks arise more full blown. I have been on Effexor XR for 6 years for panic attacks, and love it. I too...went through a depression period after my first panic attack and the effexor completely brought me back. I recently went through a small depression pd. in April because I tried to wean off my medicine (under Dr. supervision) and I relapsed...started the meds back up and within a few weeks was good to go.
Avatar m tn My therapist believes I have a little GAD along with some male post partum....took 20 mg of celexa for 2 weeks then got upped to 30 mg which I've been taking for 3 weeks. I am much better than when I first started and have gone through the early side effects (dry mouth, fatigue, fogginess, etc). With that said, I have had some very good days followed by days filled with general anxiety.
Avatar f tn If I have to stay on ADs and need to switch, Celexa would be my preference. My doc said I could try Prozac but that is supposed to be very activating. No thanks. I need something more neutral. If Celexa worked well for you I don't think it would hurt to try Lexapro. You just never know with these drugs until you try them for yourself. Is Luvox too stimulating or does it just not work for you? Are you in therapy? That might help too.
Avatar m tn is celexa just for depression?? or does it also help with anxiety's?? is this one on the bottom of the list?? like zoloft,paxil,lexapro,prozac..this is in the same category as these others....please explain this??
280234 tn?1532986249 UPDATE: Well, I tried taking the Celexa my doctor wrote for anxiety. I have been on it for just a couple of weeks and this is a WEIGHT GAIN drug, no doubt. So I won't be taking it. I took it for about 1 1/2 weeks, and have gained 4 LBS. in 2 weeks! Haven't changed diet, and walk regularly. Just wanted to post this as a warning for those considering taking Celexa for anxiety. Weight gain will just add to my anxiety, so I definitely will not be taking this.
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor about celexa. No antidepressants are specifically for panic or anxiety besides benzos but many AD are used to treat anxiety even though they treat depression too. Don't take anything on your own without doctors supervision cuz that can make things worse.
497348 tn?1283436066 s have adjustments you have to make to them, so give this med a chance, I took zoloft with my first and far WORSE bout with PA, and it saved and gave me back my life, Panic free from a number of years, this round with PA was much milder and I tried zoloft and was not right for me, so I went to celexa have been on it for 3 weeks and feel better already, could it be a placibo affect, WHO CARES LOL, it works for me!!
Avatar n tn I just figured am I taking this for no reason? When I stopped the klonopin for a few days I was having panic attacks then once i started taking klonopin again I felt so much better thank God! I don't have depression that wasn't hte main purpose i was put on celexa but I kind of feel depressed ever since.
Avatar n tn I have been experiencing panic attacks on and off for the past three years. of course they always seem worse when moneys tight or issues come up in my life. when things are good, the panic attacks go away, petty much completely. I have the up and down swings like I could be bi polar, but alot of the other symptoms don't exist.
672514 tn?1265655141 OK my 1st question, sorry! I started Celexa 3 months ago, I have been on 5mg celexa (most Doctors would say not even therapeutic) well it has been for me, now I am considering moving up to 10mgs. Anyone on celexa have any pros or cons ?
17020225 tn?1455749597 I get anxious and overly emotional about pretty much everything, I get bad panic attacks, been to the ER for those near 10 times. I also have health anxiety, and mild ocd. I have taken pretty much all the anxiety medications for some period of time but quit using them after a short period for one reason or another. So I'm not sure which ones really work the best. But I do know when I tried lexapro it seemed to make me sick. I am currently on klonopin.
5140021 tn?1364185966 I read a paper that Celexa helps vertigo. anyone experience this? I may have to get back on Celexa and not for Panic or Anxiety but for the vertigo that started 3 days ago.
Avatar n tn When that did nothing for the insomnia and resulting panic, I went to a regular doctor the next day and he prescribed Celexa and Klonopin. I did sleep last night, thankfully. My question now is, can I take one of these low dose Xanax today? I started the Celexa last night and took 1 mg Klonopin to sleep. I just want to feel normal again.
Avatar f tn I have been on Celexa for many many months now and about 6 weeks ago or so my Doc upped it too 40 mg. It is helping but not great, is this as good as it is gonna get and is it maybe time to try something else. I have tried many different ssris and srnis in the past. The only I have not been on is Paxil, tried prozac and had an awful reaction to it 2 weeks in. Any help or advice would be great..
Avatar m tn Perhaps he did the right thing - it is not my place to figure that out from here, however if he wants you on meds imo he should have at least started with something for ST relief or had that as a backup while the Celexa builds in your system. Plus Celexa might work for one person but not another, so you might have a few drug trials to live with before one shows up that your system works well with - but that is another story for a month down the road if you give up on Celexa..
Avatar n tn hi my doctor is putting my wife on celexa for her anxiety and panic attacks, i was wondering does anyone take it and how it makes you feel, she has been taking buspar for 3 days and i think it made her worse and help would be greatly aprreciated
Avatar f tn Hello I am new to this site and so glad that I found it so maybe someone can lead me in the right direction for help. I have been haveing really bad panic attacks for about a year now and they are getting worse. My gp put me on celexa which has not helped. I have medullary sponge kidney with chronic pain when the pain gets real bad My attacks get bad I feel like the pain will never stop and I am just going to die.
4502768 tn?1538777982 Personally, I feel getting help for panic attacks without the medications is the best solution for me. This included ruling out any other illnesses that could cause these feelings. Once all tests came back normal, I just reassured myself that these are just feelings, and they cannot harm you. Even though it does not feel like it at the time. But like I said, everyone is different. If you truely need medication and it works for you, there is nothing wrong with that.
Avatar n tn Antidepressants are for anxiety too. Celexa has worked for me and my sister in law. Its worth a try under ur docs supervision.
1717715 tn?1318297295 Hey guys, I know its more of a "varies from person to person" kind of thing, but has anyone had any experience with the SSNRI Cymbalta? either good or bad? any side affects? etc... I dont suffer from any depression, just anxiety and panic attacks out of the blue. I'm on Klonopin now but the doc prescribed me the cymbalta and told me if i wanted, i could fill it and try it.
Avatar n tn BTW, you may want to consider also posting in the Anxiety forum for possibly more support on celexa and other meds for panic / anxiety.
1394445 tn?1351023345 Thank you for the very detailed and knowledgeable response. In the past, I was on Zoloft for a short period and switched to Celexa (the generic). I've been on 20 mg a day since July. The reason I switched from Zoloft to Celexa was that I was having some stomach/IBS issues and thought it might be related to the Zoloft. It was more likely the anxiety adding to the stomach/IBS. Several years ago, I was on Remeron which is great for sleeping.
