Celexa for bipolar 2

Common Questions and Answers about Celexa for bipolar 2

celexa

Avatar n tn Been prescribed Celexa but Doc is considering that I might have bipolar 2, not unipolar depression. I'm concerned about 'switching' - if it were to happen how long would it take to see effects from taking the first tablet?
Avatar n tn Thank you for responding. I have an appointment next week so it will good to start getting all of this figured out. I am just wondering if my mania is coming out through my anger outbursts. I also get very obsessive about things.
Avatar f tn I also Gained extremely amount of weight on my 4 10 body from 100 pounds to 286 which now since january Im at 195. So I would also like to know Is Celexa For BIPOLAR. Which I think I know the answer to that, I was also on 40 mg. thank you for any help. Right now at this point Im sorry I do not like Doctors as you can see, They just kept adding medications instead of looking at the one that caused the issue...
Avatar f tn I was on Celexa, for 3 months last year but it didn't do much for me, in fact it was like i wasn't on it at all, the only bad side effect was loss of sex drive and libido etc. no weight gain or loss that i noticed. I have bipolar 1, and was on other medication at the time. as you probably know everyone is different when it comes to these types of medication so please don't be discouraged by my comment.
2069525 tn?1331349398 They may remove the celexa or take a wait and see approach. Generally speaking SSRI's are bad news for bipolar patients, and some of the newer research says that they increase cycling even with a mood stabilizer. If you google "antidepressant bipolar" you'll see some of the controversy. I personally will not use one again after reading the research. I think using Wellbutrin triggered my episode of ultra-rapid cycling.
433485 tn?1321813390 I have been suffering from anxiety for years, My pdoc is changing my diagnosis to a mood disorder/bipolar 2. I am currently on 100 mg of seraquel at night and 1 mg of klonopin tid, 200 mg of lamictal, 100 mg of wellbutrin and now down to 40 mg of celexa, tapering slowing down from 80. eventually off of wellbutrin as that and celexa do seem to be doing anything for me ( we think).
Avatar f tn I think with celexa and all antidepressants for bipolar people it can make them manic unless they also take a mood stabilizer. You can go to 10 different doctors and get 10 different answers. Find one you like and stick with him/her. Alot of times the symptoms of mental illnesses overlap each other and can sometimes make diagnosis hard. That is why it is important to try and find one psychiatrist and stick with them.
Avatar f tn I have been to Dr. A for years and have taken SSRI's on and off. The best was Celexa and did great on it for a year. It just made me have trouble waking up and made me late to work every morning. Then I moved and went to a new psychiatrist, Dr. H, who knows me less but was more thorough like taking blood and mouth swab test, etc. He seems to think I have a mood disorder (bipolar spectrum) on the the depressive side and thinks Mood Stabilizers like Lamictal would be better for me.
574118 tn?1305135284 Besides the therapeutic dose of lexapro is 5-20mg whereas for celexa it is NOT 10 - 40mg rather 10 - 60mg, meaning that it is even much weaker and more tolerated hypothetically than lexapro. Since I am always seeking to take the weakest AD fearing from mania, my question is two fold: is celexa better than lexapro or worse I mean generally speaking because this is patient dependent.
433485 tn?1321813390 Hi. I was recently diagnosed with bipolar 2. Pdoc also said comorbid anxiety. Prior to that, he was calling it a mood disorder. I have suffered from depression, off and on, since I was 9 years old. I am now 53. I am wondering what meds people on this forum take. I am on different ones: Celexa 60 mg Lamictal 250 mg. Klopin 1 mg. three times a day. Seraquel 200 mg, at night. It seems like quite a lot, but he seems to feel that they are going to help.
Avatar f tn Seroquel is an Atypical Antipsychotic that is great for treating both the bipolar depression and the bipolar mania. It totally stabilized me, however I do get terrible weight gain with it. 2 mg of Valium is a peanut dose, so I am not surprised that it is not helping. Especially if you are in a mixed state or manic.
997928 tn?1252444237 I have been taking Lamictal for 4 years now and I will say it did stabilize my moods. I also take .50 mg of Klonopin as well as 300 mg of Seraquel at bedtime. For 2 months my psychiatrist added Celexa and I felt wonderful. I only had 1 episode in those 2 months. I was happy, and generally "normal" to be around. When I went in for my monthly visit he told me that he was going to take me off of the Celexa because it wasn't good for my bipolar disease. But now...
Avatar n tn It can set off mania for someone who has bipolar. That is of concern and you might want to speak to your psychiatrist about that. Lithium is a standard mood stabilizer and does work quite well. Klonopin is an anti-anxiety medication but not a mood stabilizer. If you can't tolerate Lithium there are other choices such as Lamictal but give it a chance. In the meantime I would think the anti-depressent might be worsening things and you might want to speak to your psychiatrist about this.
Avatar m tn My wife started taking Celexa about 6 months ago for depression, about 2 months ago they changed her dosage. Everything seemed to be going well until about 4 weeks ago. She has completely lost touch with reality. We have been together for about 7 years with 3 kids together. About 4 weeks ago she cheated on me, then asked for an open relationship which i agreed to because that's what she felt she needed.
11041895 tn?1415038678 ve been having more severe mood swings than usual--a couple of weeks ago I broke down into tears and sobbed for 2 hours because I was watching my favorite TV show and it made me remember something upsetting. My doctor seemed to think that the Lamictal was more of the problem, however, and upped my Seroquel dosage. How long have you been taking the medications? My advice is to check online for more info on them (you can just go on Google---there's this site called drugs.
1134609 tn?1269272200 My mother was on Celexa for depression and Topama for seizures, but was taken off of the Celexa because it was causing her problems. She's been free and clear of the Celexa for 3 months and is only on the Topamax and she hasn't had any issues since. In fact, she's the most stable she's been in a long time. My major issue with my BP disorder was the Celexa that I used to take; it was causing me to rapid cycle.
Avatar n tn From 2002 to 2007 I had been treated for depression. I was on celexa without side effects and mostly liked how it worked but then in 2005, I felt maybe I needed a change. Doctors put me on Effexor XR 150 mg. This was a nightmare for me. It put me into a 1 1/2 year manic episode and I started an affair, abused drugs and then the affair ended and I ended up with a restraining order on me and then arrested (really long story) - After the affair ended, I put myself in a psych ward on a 5150.
Avatar m tn My psychiatrist thinks I have Bipolar II, but I've never had a hypomanic experience outside of the two times I've tried SSRIs. I've struggled with depression for as long as I can remember, I'm 24. I tried prozac when I was 21 and had a hypomanic experience 2 months in. At that time I was drinking a TON, abusing adderall, and getting little sleep. Then 3 years later I tried celexa, and after 3 days I felt good, then after about 5 I felt too good.
Avatar f tn I am taking medication for my bipolar Celexa and Abilify.. And going to therapy as well what else can be done for treatment? I'm a married mother of two small children....
Avatar f tn I'm adhd and GAD I am currently on adderal and celexa has been added. I hate antidepressant medications because they make me manic. Does anyone have this problem? Im thinking I may have a little bipolar even though my pdoc said he didn't see any signs.
433485 tn?1321813390 Hi. I was on Celexa and Wellbutrin, plus 1/2 mg. Klopin tid before this latest episode. Also, I goofed in my post. I was on 1 mg of Klonopin tid, not 2 mg. I had been on Zoloft that pooped out over a year ago, that's when we went to Celexa. During the last episode of anxiety/depression he started to think that it could possibly be bipolar 2 or a mood disorder . That is why he started me on the lamictal and seraquel.
Avatar f tn I have just been prescribed Invega 9 mg for Bipolar Disorder along with 12oo mg of Trileptal and 50 mg of Topamax.I am still having bizzare dreams and feel as if I am sleepwalking and doing odd behavior throughout the day.I feel extremely drugged. Is this pretty commom with this combo of drugs or from any one of these.I have periods to where I just "can't think".Thank you for your response.

Avatar f tn Lilymoon is absolutely right. Usually it takes effect starting about 3 weeks afterwards. Most common initial side effects are nausea, indigestion and sleepiness, but they usually go away after a few weeks. Personally Celexa did absolutely nothing for me, but I know several people for whom it works great. It's the first-line drug for a reason - it's the least dangerous anti-depressant, with the least chance of side-effects. Don't worry, just try it and see how it goes.
