Celexa and adhd

Common Questions and Answers about Celexa and adhd

celexa

Avatar f tn I'm adhd and GAD I am currently on adderal and celexa has been added. I hate antidepressant medications because they make me manic. Does anyone have this problem? Im thinking I may have a little bipolar even though my pdoc said he didn't see any signs.
383943 tn?1217722721 Does she have ADD/ADHD and / or anxiety? I never heard of Celexa being used for ADHD on a 5 year old. Did she get evaluated by a psycholigist or developmental doctor that specializes in ADHD? If she has ADHD, the first medication that you should try is Metadate CD or Ritalin. Start with a very small dosage such as 2.5mg or 5mg. If it does not work because it is not enough, keep on increasing the amount very slowly until you see that she is doing well. I am not familiar with celexa.
Avatar f tn You souls like a very sweet and educated man!! Thanks a lot!! Day two of the Celexa and I am speeding my *** off !! Lol.
Avatar n tn My 5-year-old son just started taking Celexa tonight. He's diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety disorder and severe separation anxiety as well as a mood disorder. I'm noticing some restlessness and probably should have waited to give him the pill in the morning. I was wondering how your son did on the medication so far?
Avatar n tn It would be wise to arrange an evaluation with an adolescent mental health clinician for the purpose of figuring out what is occurring. It is not unusual for several conditions to co-exist. Examples with your son are ADHD, OCD and Impulse Control D/O. Any plan for medication should focus on clearly described goals. It is not clear precisley what goals would be targeted with medication and I would not give him Celexa without a thorough evaluation.
Avatar f tn And what is a better drug to take? I am ADD/ADHD and really stressed out. I feel better when I take celexa 20 mg. daily and 5mg of Ritalin twice daily. I am only 4'11" and this weight HAS GOT TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar f tn My son (age 10 1/2) has been on Celexa for ADHD and anxiety due to Sensory Processing Disorder since age 8 1/2. We did a LOT of research and had a struggle with wanting to put an 8 year old child on any medication at all. However, in his best interest we tried it. It had an immediate, and awesome effect. He wasn't afraid anymore! He still had attention and focus issues but it seemed manageable because he wasn't freaking out over everything anymore.
11487567 tn?1418754128 My daughter was prescribed zoloft (sertraline) 25 mg, celexa 10 mg, and lexapro 5 mg to take all together. When picking up her prescription, the pharmacist questioned the prescribing doctors mix saying that taking all three could cause serotonin syndrome. My daughter started out on the zoloft at half dose for a week, then went to 25 mg, then added celexa and lexapro a few weeks later. She is now at week 16 but seems to be doing fine except for she can't get rid of a flu.
Avatar f tn I am on pretty strong levels of Clonidine (0.2mg BID) and Celexa (40-mg BID) so I am fearful of how the tics will be when we start weining. Any ideas, suggestions, articles, etc...are greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I also take celexa and wellbutrin for depression and adderal was introduced because i was becoming depressed again feeling unmotivated and frankly lethargic....i worry i am doing a "bad" thing to my head....any feedback would be appreciated....
Avatar f tn One could be that it is uncomfortable or unpleasant to her because of tactile issues with her sensory system or again, motor planning making the process difficult. Anxiety and sensory (and add/adhd) can look similar and are often comorbid. Please google motor planning as it pertains to language and thought organization. As you read about it as a whole, think back if anything past or present fits. Occupational therapy works wonders.
Avatar f tn We have a 9 year old son with ADHD as well and we too did not believe in medicating. We tried many other methods such as fish oils, nutrition shakes etc. Finally after a year of trying we finally had to give in. Our doctor put our son on Concerta. It is a slow release medication meaning it works over an 8 or so hour period. This helped our son quite a bit. Only side effect is loss of appetite. His lunch hours he does not eat much.
Avatar n tn I would talk to your doctor about a possible combo of meds. I take Celexa and if anything it makes my memory a little worse.
Avatar m tn Well my regular family physician in Minnesota ---who I will be delivering with as I am moving back to my home area around Christmas---put me on Celexa and back on the Ativan as needed. The Celexa did not work out very well for me giving me thoughts Ive never had before..and was unsettling so I quit taking them, but currently do still take the ativan. He has me on .5 mg up to twice a day as needed. I understand that Ativan is a class d drug and is reported NOT safe pregnancy.
Avatar n tn It is possible that your son has both ADHD and anxiety issues. However, it is common today for medical personnel to misdiagnose a child because the behaviours for some anxiety disorders and ADD/ADHD are very similar. Since the medication for ADHD is not working, I wonder if this could be the problem in your son's situation - he suffers from anxiety but not ADD/ADHD. Usually, the medication for anxiety is one of the SSRI's - non-habit-forming medications.
Avatar f tn Yes, the Prozac can make him hyper. Our child took Prozac at the same age as your son and she, too, did not do well on it. It did help her anxiety but seemed to take away her "filter" for saying or doing appropriate things. Our doctor then placed her on Effexor - which worked well but today she is on Celexa (citalopram is the generic term) and this seems to be the best "fit" for her.
7087196 tn?1389306119 The diagnosis was borderline ADHD. I was diagnosed with ADHD at 15, was given Ritalin, and my behaviors became so much worse, wrong diagnosis. In 2005 was diagnosed with Bi-Polar. They have tried Celexa, Risperdal, Quafanicine (unsure of spelling) and they work for a very short time and his behavior gets worse then it was before. He said in school on the 18th, he wanted to shoot all the kids in his second grade class, after he pushed a girl when she was mean to him.
Avatar f tn I was on cymbalta for a short time and I could not sleep either. Doctor wanted me to switch from Celexa to Cymbalta. Because of my husband's insecurity position at work at that time I couldn't keep taking it (would have been too expensive without insurance). I didn't think it helped anyway. So back to Celexa. I can't take Celexa alone either, it acts like Cymbalta (no sleeping) but not as much.
Avatar m tn Of course, not positive on that - but anxiety is a very strong co-disorder of adhd. And, I feel it is even stronger in adult undiagnosed adhd. So if you are now treating the possible cause of your anxiety - then that is good. And, I have seen this reported many times with adults. And yes, if you do not have adhd, amphetamines should scare you. But, there is a lot of bad press as they don't seem to understand the difference between the brain differences (and thus the need) for them.
Avatar f tn My son has been takiing this med Vyvanse for adhd, so I decided to take it to see if it would help me with my depression and anxiety, and it worked great, I didn't have any side effect to it. This is why I ask if its okay to take Vyvanse for my anxiety, right now I'm taking celexa but its not doing nothing for me anymore. I've been taking Celexa for the past 3 yrs and I think its time for me to change my meds.
Avatar f tn I have a few post on here, I was on Celexa for 8 years Ambilfy 8 years before that Welbutron, Zoloft and more. While on Celexa they added Ambien Klonopin I know Celexa is a SSRI drug, I read that without someone telling me You do not mix medications in the SSRI or other extra. I also read on the pdf from Celxa that it stated. That let it be noted Clexa was not to be treated for bipolar depression yet I get it could be and the recomendation dosage for Celexa is 20mg I was on 40 not all the time.
Avatar f tn I had been taking prozac for almost 10 years and it worked great. Then, it's like it just quit working. I switched to Celexa and I don't feel like it works at all. The only thing that seems to relieve my anxiety is Xanax which I am scared of becoming dependent on. But, I am about to just say forget it and take it as needed instead of trying to stay down to 1 a day. I only take .25 mg, but it seems like it is not working as well as it used to.
Avatar f tn Imagine that ALL of the tests came back normal and I am in perfect health. So finally I ask to be tested for ADD/ADHD. And the doctor informs me that he has no idea to proceed with an adult asking about being tested for ADHD. He gave me a test to complete that is for children and referred me to a behavioral health place. I had already made an appointment there and was told that they don't have anyone that specializes in ADHD.
1746489 tn?1311515586 I have recently been prescribed Adderall XR 20 mg for adult ADHD. I have been diagnosed with mild COPD. I am currently on an Albuterol Inhaler as needed, which luckily isn't very often. I'm on Norvasc for high blood pressure (controlled quite well) and Celexa 40 mg a day. I guess that I'm kind of nervous about taking the Adderall XR after reading about all the possible side effects.
Avatar n tn I have been on meds for a WHILE and I do NOT see the urge to quit my picking. My son has ADHD and he is CONSTANTLY picking at his cuts and scrapes, he looks like a junkie and his arms and legs look SO bad! How dare I tell him to stop when I am constantly in the mirror picking myself, having him look for blackheads on my dog, etc? I also have had an eating disorder for about 25 years now (bulimia and infrequent months of anorexia).
