Avatar f tn Hello. Just a question, what can I feed my diabetic min-pin that is home cooked? She will not eat any kind of dog food, this is how she got the pancreatitis that caused the diabetes. My vet is of no help, she said that if she won't eat the RX dog foods then just give her white meat chicken, boiled only and brocolli or green beans. That's it and I know that my dog is not getting enough nutrients from this diet. She was diagnosed in May of 2006 at the age of 5.
Avatar m tn Limit fruit to 3 servings/day because it tend to have a lot of sugar and if not used right away, turns to fat. Try to center your meals around vegetables, because they have a lot of nutrients and fiber for very few calories. Also stick to low/no fat dairy, lean meats, good fats (such as avocado, olive oil, etc). Nuts and seeds are a good addition, because of the nutrients, but limit them because of the fat, even though it's "good" fat.
Avatar f tn Check out everything. Even beans. Yes some people have a very large and long lasting spike on beans, even though books suggest it as a good choice. Supplements can help some people. If you want to go in that direction consider things like chromium, they help some people control BG. But check with your doctor, especially if you are on medications.
Avatar f tn Eating more protein and fewer simple carbs are good. White beans, such as white kidney beans, chicpeas, aduzi beans, and other beans are good because they're high in protein and also in fibers that help control blood sugar and cholesterol. That's a start. To get more complete, try to find a holistic nutritionist.
7628588 tn?1392763151 For dinner, eat fish, chicken and occasionally pork and beef. Eat lots of broccoli, spinach, brussel sprouts, green beans, and lettuce. No rice, potatoes, and most beans as they are high in carbs. No pasta!! If you really need a slice of bread, look for the "old world" breads available. These contain lots of fiber, and are slow to process. .....and learn to read labels on food containers. Look at the total weight of the carbs versus the fiber.
973741 tn?1342342773 Beans and legumes like black beans, chickpeas, and lentils are high in fiber and protein, which can help you feel full and satisfied.
Avatar n tn Carbs raise BG so restricting carbs will help BG. when you say 6 units I assume you mean 6 exchanges which is 90 gr of carbs. If you take 250 mg at each meal that is 750 mg a day, the limit is 2400mg a day so you have room to go up on the Met. It can take 6 to 8 weeks for met to become fully effective.
7470604 tn?1396498950 Any veggies that you like, fruits just have much sugar that the can be causing you to gain a lot because sugar is carbs and to many carbs is bad but veggies have hardly any carbs. Green beans, broccoli, spinach, anything green is great for you. Just stay away from corn because that is more of a starch.
Avatar m tn t have to cut out all carbs. You can still include complex carbs like nuts, legumes, beans, oats(steel cut are best). Have a look at the Glycemic Index Charts. The lower the better. Balance these complex carbs with proteins such as fish, and lean skinless chicken breast, good fats like extra virgin olive oil, and green veggies. These are just rough ideas. The doctor will put together what's best for you. But the basic rules are, eat healthy, and get active! Keep us posted.
550018 tn?1264190965 I am scheduled for a PET/CT this Friday at 8AM, so tomorrow, Thursday, I will eat only protein (eggs, meat, tuna) and veggies like green beans, cauliflower, broccoli, salad with oil/vinegar (no prepared salad dressings). I work for oncologists and the girl that schedules these tests for our office gave me a list with all of the things to avoid. You will need to drink lots of water in the hours before your test. Hydration is very important.
Avatar f tn The night before he had steak, green beans, 2 pieces of bread (about 15g carbs total), 1 apple sauce cup, and 1/2 cup Mac n cheese. He ate all of it except for some steak, a little bit of apple sauce, and a few green beans. To correct his low blood sugar we gave him 1 serving of gummy bears (15 g carbs) and waited 15 min then gave 1 more serving of gummy bears. And then tested him 2 hours later. When we tested him he was at 181.
Avatar f tn Nothing that will turn into glucose. I think I ate green beans for supper for a week before the second test. Lean meat like chicken breasts. I read on here that someone said to try to walk when you do the three hour test because it helps your body use up that blood sugar. Good luck!
667913 tn?1242700488 Try to reduce the amount of fat - go to 1% or skim milk, use just a bit of olive oil or broth for sauteeing, use herbs and spices more to flavour and limit your use of butter and oil, look for lower fat meats (pork tenderloin, lean ground meats, skinless/boneless chicken breasts and thighs, limit your intake of white carbs and replace with complex carbs like whole grain breads, whole wheat pasta, brown rice, beans and legumes. Use your weight tracker and stay involved on this forum.
Avatar f tn you need protein in your diet , a good source anyway like chicken ect, baked beans are yum but i would recommend a balanced diet the problem with baked beans is the also contain alot of carb's which are not good to have as a last meal of the day as you will store whatever you dont burn off. And this dose not mean you should avoid carbs because your body needs them aswell , when i did the lighter life diet i lost 4 stone but i felt like **** because it was low calorie and low carbs.
Avatar m tn Get fresh meat and fish, and cook it with vegetables like broccoli, carrots, spinach, green beans, cabbage. Those veggies are all good for dogs. Salmon oil is also a good additive to put in their food. For carbs, (cooked) potatoes and both brown and white rice -are all okay for dogs. So is wholemeal pasta. But not too many carbs. And you may need a food supplement tablet recommended for dogs to give daily. No bones. Remove bones. Use lean meats, don't let them eat meat fat or fatty skin.
285848 tn?1219092313 I just posted this in the healthy cooking forum but any other help would be great. Copy and paste! Ok so I got some ideas...but I really want some good healthy recipes that will not be completely ruined by a beginner! I want something easy that I can't really mess up...So I am going to grill some marinaded steaks on my george foreman...I will make some healthy loaded mashed potatoes...and maybe some garlic toast. Other then that I am lost...
Avatar n tn Don't beat yourself up too badly over it, I'm in the same boat as you... I don't really overeat, and the things that I do eat, I think out and try to make healthy meals, but I still ended up with gestational diabetes. Unfortunately, it's just something that happens because of all of the weird things that happen in pregnancy. I've learned to just go with it... That being said, I was advised to count how many grams of carbs that I take in and what foods contain them.
Avatar n tn I started one day by eating breakfast two eggs with onions bell peppers, lunch chicken breast and broccoli, dinner would always be with salmon, shrimp, or chicken, I would eat it with a side of green beans mixed with bellpepers,mushrooms,spinach..i did this for two weeks then lost 8 pounds in two weeks. Remember you don't wanna lose to much weight fast because u will gain it fast. Portion control, is very important.
Avatar f tn Jules2811 generally my dinner looks like some short of meat, 1 to 2 veggies, and a starch. The other night we did taco salad it was about 2 c. Of lettuce, 4 oz of meat, 1/4 c. Of onions, salad dressing and 2 servings of fritos chips (this was 30 g of carbs). There was a night I did 4 oz pork chop with 1/2 c. Brown rice, wth 1.5 c zucchini and onions and 1 c. Of strawberries (the rice was 15 carbs and so was the strawberries so that was 30 carbs).
Avatar m tn High Iron food sources are all meats, fish, dark green vegetables, beans, enriched rice (cooked), enriched pastas (cooked), and whole wheat breads. Did the Doctor look at folate or Vitamin B12 levels for possible other types of anemia? Hoped this helped you.
Avatar f tn I'm not allowed to eat beans as they r too high in carbs :/ I would love to eat beans lol. Popcorn spikes my sugar belive it or not, ***** cuz I love it. I also have to be careful of the carbs in nuts! And I'm only 24 weeks and dr says its going to keep getting worse til I have the baby.
