My mom is on chemo-taxol and carbo,however the level of her white blood cells is very low and her next chemo will probably be delayed. She is very, very scared because of the delay, has no courage at all. Her mom died of breast cancer at the age of 45, so we have a history of breast/ ovarian cancer. I am scared too and desperately seek for survivors from that desease with the same grade.

I am on my 7th round of carbo/taxol (was originally scheduled for 6 but had a partial bowel obstruction causing a temporary rise in CA125). They also thought that Chemo #6 could possibly not have been properly absorbed and that the IP port caused problems, possibly infection. All that resolved, my CA125 just before this 7th chemo is at 13. This is to have been my last treatment.
She has had 2 reoccurances since, all treated with carbo and taxol. She seems to reoccure every 12 months. She is due to see oncologist tomorrow as her CA125 was 80 last month. We think they will start chemo again.
Is carbo and Taxol a safe option? She has painful feet and ankles from all the other carbo and taxol.
Some people mention taxol weekly, is that an option?

In the first 2-4 years she received carbo/taxol treatments and responded well. On her last carbo/taxol treatment the cancer recurred around 6 months post treatment. Doc used doxil and she responded but did not keep it at bay for as long as he'd like to see. He recently tried topotecan and her CA125 initially dropped, but then started to rise. He stopped the topotecan and decided to re-try the carbo/taxol combo. She was on her 2nd treatment (of 6) and had an allergic reaction.
My doctor said that I can not have any more carbo based on the skin test which gave the very mild reaction 18 monthe ago. I feel that re-starting the carbo makes sense. Since my Doctor will not treat me with carbo, who in Georgia (or Southeast) does the de-sensitization.

She had a lot of ascites right now which had initially dried up with carbo/taxol but it has unfortunately come back again. She has become resistant to carbo/taxol so she is not on topotecon. I was wondering if any one has had experience with it and if it would help in drying up the ascites - just carbo/taxol initially had. Thanks!
The reaction starts 10 mins after the carbo starts going in her vein and she goes red and hot. In the past they have given her some steroids and antihistamines waited 45 mins and then started the carbo again and she has been fine but today, they wouldn't carry on with the carbo (it was a different Dr doing the treatment). She has to go on Wednesday and see her normal chemo Dr.
She has had a good response with his treatment CA125 down from 60 to 16 after 2 treatments.
I had discussion with chemo nurse after treatment w. taxol&carbo regarding length of time taxol infusion should last.
She said 2 hours, but previously it was 3 hours. Any thoughts? I am 69, stage 3. first recurrence.
I am having an especially difficult time because I went almost straight from carbo/taxotere to carbo/gemzar so my bone marrow did not have any real recovery time. I get neulasta each cycle, but my onc has pulled his patients off procrit and aranesp due to current controversy about those drugs. I have needed red blood and platelet transfusions and always develop large bruises when my platelets get critically low.
If ca125 drop to normal after you had 3 cycles of Carbo+Taxol first time, you are called sensitive to Carbo+Taxol like my friend. Not sure about your situation. If you are sensitive, I would definitely request for Carbo+Taxol ( I thought it is the protocol to use Carbo+Taxol as a second line when a patient is sensitive).
Have you always had single chemo except your first chemo (carbo+texol)? Maybe you should ask your dr about combo next time.

Her oncologist is recommending stopping the caelyx and starting carbo and taxol again. Its 18 months since she stopped this treatment.
Would carrying on with caelyx be better or starting the other combo, also would carbo and taxol be a good idea? Its 18 months since she last had it. I know caelyx is a chemo that kicks in alot later and so CA125 rise isn't too much to worry about.
I am stage 1 and took carboplatin alone, only because I was allergic to taxol. My doctor said taxol/carbo is the "gold standard" but carbo alone would be sufficient for my situation. Is there a reason why you are considering this instead of the taxol/carbo combo?
Has anyone had a reaction to carbo within first 15 minutes of chemo? The symptoms were extreme redness, flushing in face, feeling like on fire all over, many spots before the eyes, like ready to pass out, and shortness of breath. The team d/c the drug immediately, waited, gave more Benadryl, Zantac, cortisone, and resumed the chemo 2-3 hours later with no problem. Chemo coming up again soon, friend is scared,scared that it will happen again and she will be unable to take that drug.
