Avatar n tn I want to build some muscle. I want to lose fat. From what I can tell, these two at the same time is next to impossible. What if I avoid cardio on days that I lift weights? Do I consume slightly more protein than normal to help build muscle, perhaps a little less on days I am doing cardio (on those days consume more carbs)? I just don't get it and I want to know from a doctor instead of the countless contradictions on the web. How is the best way to go about this?

Personal trainers are much better at pushing you harder than you can yourself, but just push yourself as hard as you can. Make sure you have a sufficiently accurate diet to help which means no cupcakes for pre-exercise food..LOL. Protein will help rebuild muscle but you must work it out in order for the protein to rebuild it.

1698865 tn?1306869524 I used to be about 290 lbs, and thanks to a strict low-carb diet I got down to about 240 lbs, but then I hit a plateau. No matter what I did I couldn't lose any more weight. I started working out regularly when I hit my plateau and I still was not losing any weight. So after a few months of nothing, I thought 'it doesn't matter I'm not losing anything anyways' and I pigged out. A couple days later i stepped on the scale and i had lost 2 lbs!

If you're trying to build muscle, protein is better for post workout, but some fruits are very high in antioxidants that help to control the lactic acid and other oxidative byproducts of exercise. Apples are supposed to be good for this, for example. Berries are great sources of antioxidants.
