Avatar n tn She has only been on insulin and low carb diet for a coupe weeks but her blood glucose levels have been consistently good. I know this may change, and several people (mostly Type 11 patients) have told me giving her Vitamin B12 and chromium would help. My question s are has anyone here tried those supplements or others? How did your physician feel about it? and are nutraceutical supplements safe for a child as young as mine?

988694 tn?1332359479 Hi, low carb diet works wonders for diabetics. I went on a low carb diet, lost approx 100 lbs ! which put my diabetic levels back into normal range. As for thyroid function, I never noticed any changes in my hormone labs, due to low carb diet.
Avatar m tn approach, and promptly hurt my health, but my heart health improved once I followed a common sense diet coupled with exercise, no smoking, good drugs. Stick with the professionals.
451075 tn?1210258648 Yes, it's totally safe. I have used low-carb diet for long time. I eat alot of protein (all meat and fish (as long as it is fresh and un-contamintated), cheeses and eggs). It's known now that eggs do not have this bad influence on cholesterol as thought before. It's also known that fat doesn't make you fat. So, I never look at calories, I only look at carbohydrates. Besides the protein I eat alot of vegetable (except high carb veggies like carrots, borccoly etc).
Avatar m tn You would definitely want to ask your doctor that question. I saw an article in a medical magazine in a hospital waiting room that said that the sperm are a bigger factor in health of a baby than previously realized. Smoking, drinking, poor sleep, poor diet, high stress, and toxins all take a toll on sperm, weakening them. I think it's a great question and worth researching.
Avatar f tn 2 in the Annals of Internal Medicine shows the low carb high fat diet excels for weight loss and heart health. The low fat diet saw more lean muscle lost than body fat. Good tip: avoid low fat everything. :) "People who avoid carbohydrates and eat more fat, even saturated fat, lose more body fat and have fewer cardiovascular risks than people who follow the low-fat diet that health authorities have favored for decades, a major new study shows.
Avatar f tn I saw an article about this subject in Alternative Medicine magazine a few years ago. They changed the name of the magazine, but you still might be able to get a copy of it if you call them. That is a good magazine, and probably pretty reliable information.
Tbd Hi, depending how long you have had diabetes, and your overall condition, losing weight and changing your diet to a strict low carb diet / keto diet, could possibly put your diabetes into remission or at worst make it very much easier to manage. The principle of low carb diet is restricting carbs, particularly all grains, sugars, starchy veges and sweet fruits, and eating a diet that focusses more on protein, low carb plant foods (veges and non-sweet fruits), some nuts, and healthy fats.
Avatar m tn For fast weight gain, try protein shakes and specialty foods geared towards bodybuilders in the 'bulking' phase, as well as refined carb-heavy foods like pasta and bread, and high fat snacks like cheese and preserved meats. I also highly reccomend peanut butter. Add three teaspoons of peanut butter a day to your diet and you'll be heavier in a flash.
1054985 tn?1257173275 I was eating low carb when I was dx'd. I wondered if it was the diet that cause my Optic Neuritis! That was before I understood ON. I am back on low carb just to try and take care some of the bloating I have trouble with. I figured out if I give my injection in my leg rather than my stomach it helps some. At least my tummy is not sore!
1230422 tn?1301923560 Does anyone know how to set up a carb exchange diet? I used to follow one but that was over 20 years ago. Any help would be appreciated.
11634465 tn?1421827735 Also forgot to add, the low carb, moderate protein and high fat diet will help with reducing pain and improve mobility for your exercising. You will be amazed at how elimination of grains from your diet will help reduce inflammation, which leads to the pain and mobility issues you are experiencing. Try it for one week...you will be amazed at results. Good luck.
6990909 tn?1435275816 Has anybody tried a ketogenic diet for health issues? I'm just trying to find holistic ways to deal with RA. I have tried focusing on foods with anti-inflammatory properties but am continuing the search. Thanks for your input!
Avatar n tn Dear winkster, Actually a diabetic diet is really only what a healthy diet would be for people without diabetes. And fruits are a part of that even though they have sugar it get metabolized like any other carbohydrates.
Avatar f tn Try low carb diet. Diet pills are not so safe to use and definitely are not a long-term solution.
Avatar n tn I do eat low carb. However, if you use insulin you need to be, aware that some carb foods digest more quickly than others, which may affect insulin dosing.
Tbd Hi, a1c of 6.3 means an average blood sugar of around 140. This is too high. Ideally hab1c should be < 5.0. What to do: 1. Low carb diet (if your body can't handle carbs, then you need to reduce them sticking to mainly non-starchy veges as carb source. Lots of good online info for dietary management - ketogenic / low carb/ modified atkins etc). 2. Daily exercise (including aerobic / weights) 3. Lose weight if overweight.
1171232 tn?1263369500 One group of participants followed a low-carb diet and the other combined orlistat with a low-fat diet. Over the course of the study, participants in both groups lost an average of 10 percent of their body weight, but 47 percent of those on the low-carb diet were able to reduce or discontinue medication they took for high blood pressure; only 21 percent of those in the other group were able to do the same. Exactly how the low-carb diet achieved those results isn't known yet.
Avatar n tn Hi i just recently read some very recent articles from doctors saying that the atkins diet could be a very good way of eating for diabetics because of the low carb approach that insulin is hardly affected. To me it makes sense cause i wouldn't mind my great aunt who is a diabetic to try the atkins or another low carb diet to help here with her blood sugar problems.
Avatar f tn The South Beach program also has a low-carb version of their diet. In my opinion, both the paleo diet and the low-carb version of the South Beach diet are low-carb diets that are very healthy. Good luck.
