Avatar n tn You can have iron rich foods like liver, lean red meats, beans like kidney, lima, navy, black, pinto, soy beans, and lentils, iron fortified whole grains, green vegetables like spinach, tofu, broccoli, swiss chard, asparagus, parsley, chicken, nuts, egg yolk and dry fruits. Non vegetarian diet is rich in vitamin B 12 and should be taken regularly. In addition, eat lots of fruits and vegetables especially green leafy vegetables. They are a rich source of folic acid.
Avatar f tn You get the same vitamins by eating walnuts, navy beans, kidney beans, flaxseed and using olive oil if you don't like seafood. I think that's it. I asked my dr. about taking Omega 3 with this babe and he told me that as long as I eat a well balanced diet there is no need (I don't eat seafood either) to take a supplement. He advised that walnuts and flaxseed are an excellent source and contain more omega 3 than eating fish (unless you eat fish daily).

Avatar m tn Dr. W. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "fat and happy." Well, it's not just folklore. The same carbs that make you fat (and contribute to diabetes and other problems) also make you happy. It's simple science: Carbs allow more of the amino acid L-tryptophan to penetrate your brain. The L-tryptophan triggers your brain to make more serotonin, and the serotonin makes you feel happier. It's as simple as that!
Avatar n tn Hi, low carb / ketogenic diet. I don't eat any grains, fruit, starchy vegetables, or anything with added sugars. I eat salad and green vetables, nuts (in moderation), meats, eggs, cheese, butter, cream. Look up Bernstein diabetes university on utube. lots of great information.
Avatar f tn Thank you both very much for your suggestions. I believe I'll add some raw broccoli for vegetables. I suppose I really should do some strength training, as well. I really don't think that I need more calories if I don't feel hungry. I ate exactly this yesterday and didn't feel very hungry at all, even with a couple hours of walking, but I'm not trying to starve myself, so if I ever get extremely hungry, I'll eat another meal (probably the rest of the beans).
Avatar f tn As usual, I will suggest you don't look at the website above -- Atkins has been proven not to work and to not be healthy. There are many better options. And just to be clear, you're not on a no-carb diet -- vegetables and fruits and beans also contain carbs. I assume what you mean is you're not eating simple carbs, or I hope that's what you mean. Being too austere in your diet can be a problem, especially if you're diet is unbalanced.

Avatar n tn For food, we had a taco stand that served quesadillas, tacos, beans, rice, and fruit. I really loved that I planned it the way I wanted it and I was very nice.
Avatar n tn Complex carbs (whole wheat, oats, grains, brown rice, beans, legumes) and some protein will do a lot to help. Try making a lower fat but full of beans and some ground meat chili and taking it in a thermos. Or soups made with beans or lentils. Be creative with sandwiches - find a bakery with some good whole wheat or multi-grain bread and add a variety of things - meat, lettuce, avocado, hummus, roasted peppers, lower fat cheeses, etc. Dairy products can help reduce stomach fat.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, it would be really difficult to do that, what with everyone having different restrictions (low sodium, low carb, low sugar, sugar free, lactose intolerance, gluten free, etc.), allergies, taste preferences, cooking skills, and the like. Perhaps visiting with a nutritionist would benefit you, so your diet can be personally tailored to you and your needs. I'm sorry we can't be of more service.
