Avatar f tn What are the chances of getting GD at age 39? Throw in the added factors of me being overweight and already having sugar level on the high end of normal (pre-diabetes)?
Avatar f tn Then you need to know your carb/insulin ratio. count the carbs and take the proper amount of insulin. and test your BG after 2 hours and 4 hours to see if your BG is in range. if its too high you need to check on your carb/insulin ratio to see if it needs adjusting.

Tbd I eat veggies and fruits. I'm a Type 1 Diabetic and need to lose some weight. My doctor says I don't get enough protein in my diet to lose weight. I'm not a big fan of beans. What is a good source of protein for my case?
362249 tn?1441315018 The only addition would be that people on low carb diets normally have their triglycerides within normal ranges; this is one of the most reliable results in selecting a low carb way of eating. Too much fructose in our diet tends to increase blood triglycerides and is a risk factor for heart disease.
Avatar f tn t associated weight gain, such as fatty fish, nuts, seeds, and beans. Also, the most important element of a diet are vegetables, which are carbs, so a truly low carb diet would have few vegetables in it and would therefore be unhealthful for most of us. There's also a big different between whole grains and highly refined grains, which means that eating grains usually means white flour wheat to most people.
Avatar f tn They just suggested it because your more glucose sensitive in the morning, so they suggest not doing fruit at breakfast. And there is a carb count you should be following for meal and snack times. I got all my information from a registered dietician; I also have my bachelor's in nutrition. I Knew before hand that there was a carb count just couldn't remember the numbers. The suggest for breakfast and snack time to stay between 15 and 30 grams of carbs.
Avatar f tn Also, you may not be able to do a traditional glucose tolerance test, but you might be able to do a carbohydrate challenge test. A carb challenge test can give a doctor a lot of information and at the same time not be so hard on your body. If you get one insist on a 4hr test. Also insist that they measure your insulin levels at 1/2, 1, 2, 3, 4 also. Also, try to calibrate your glucometer with serum test. Your glucometer could be off. Some of them can be off by as much as 30+%.
Avatar f tn I honestly couldn't handle the iron pills. They were prescribed 3x a day because I was underweight and my anemia was 7.9 too low. After terrible constipation numerous stool softeners and a frigging hemorrhoid. I switched my eating habits, I've increased my iron intake with beans, Lentils, garbanzo beans. Spinach, kale more meats. Strawberries, broccoli. Almonds I'm drinking whole milk and the last thing I've been hooked on Boost plus.
Avatar f tn Low-Carb Flat Breads Low-carb flat breads, including mission tortillas, contain about 30 grams of protein each, making them a great source of protein for vegetarians to choose as part of their diet. 2. Chick Peas Chick peas are a food that is full of protein. These beans have 16 grams of protein per 200 gram serving. This is by far one of the best sources of protein for vegetarians. 3. Kidney Beans Coming in third, kidney beans provide 15 grams of protein per 200 gram serving.
Avatar m tn Actually no one would eat a cup of what had been a dry cup so the actual rise in b/g would be less. But substantial. There are other lower carb beans that would be better. Any serving of any food with 40 grams of carbohydrates would make my b/g rise 200 mg/dl if I didn't compensate with insulin. My preference in vegetables is carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, cabbage, and other low carb vegetables. No fruit because it has too much sugar.
Avatar f tn Roasted veggies are amazing. Lightly coat garbanzo beans in oil, seasoning of your choosing and roast at 450 until they are crunchy. Lettuce wraps are a great way to increase your veggies, collard, and swiss chard also make great wraps.
11028904 tn?1414689882 This is a good source of information: http://drhyman.com/blog/2010/05/20/5-steps-to-reversing-type-2-diabetes-and-insulin-resistance/ low carbs, good protiens like fish and eggs, and good fats from nuts and nut oils is at the core of what he suggests. Also at first your glucometer is your go to tool. Test before a meal. Eat and enjoy. Test 2 hrs after to you eat and see what foods works for you.
Avatar f tn The neuroendocrinologist I went into see (my tumor may have shrunk from 6 mm to about 5 or maybe the most recent scan just didn't picture it so well or maybe it was the fact it was a different MRI machine), at any rate, the neuro doc seemed to think unless it affected my vision (labs okay), there's no indication for surgery.
Avatar f tn There is plenty of information online about low carb and diabetes. However the diet is made up of plenty of non-starchy veges, meats and nonsweetened dairy, some nuts, oily fruits such as avocado. Very limited fruits and grains. It is quite opposite to the establishment high carb low fat diet. This diet needs to be high fat, moderate protein and low carb. Essentially the carbs are replaced mostly with fats, and with some additional protein.
Avatar n tn It happens when you eat very high protein with little fat and low carb. Try to not go over 1 gram protein per pound of lean body mass. For example, a person who weighs 150 lbs should limit to 150 grams protein per day. Also do not shy away from healthy fats, like olive oil, avocado, grass fed butter, nuts, full fat yogurt, etc. many people make the mistake of removing fats from their low carb diet, which then causes gluconeogenesis.
Avatar n tn Around here we have shiritaki (sp) noodles, very low carb instead of spaghetti.
Avatar n tn I wish I understood more about insulin. At this point, I am on oral medicine only. Initially, I didn't even pay that close attention to the carbs I was eating and managed to keep my BG levels somewhat in control. As I've aged, that has changed. What I've learned to do is only eat things that I know what the carb count is. Something that has helped both myself and my wife (who is insulin dependent) is "intermittent fasting".
Avatar m tn For weight and blood sugar management controlling how much carbs you eat each day is an essential part of management. Some people find that low carb, moderate protein, higher healthy fats diet is helpful in management. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn That person would of had to eat alot of red meats. And yes its low carb. This means to count your carb it doesnt mean not to eat carb. So veggies and so on. Also healthy fats theyre important. And its also not about being a body builder. This diet low exercise like walking is recommended.
