Avatar f tn They just suggested it because your more glucose sensitive in the morning, so they suggest not doing fruit at breakfast. And there is a carb count you should be following for meal and snack times. I got all my information from a registered dietician; I also have my bachelor's in nutrition. I Knew before hand that there was a carb count just couldn't remember the numbers. The suggest for breakfast and snack time to stay between 15 and 30 grams of carbs.
Avatar f tn Pasta, breads, ice cream, sodas, juices, anything like that will have a high carb count. Take a look at the nutritional information and see how much carbs are in each. You can eat a lot of proteins, and they help keep you fuller longer, and vegetables are a great fuller because they have almost no carbs too. You can get low carb recipes online, my favorite was Atkins which is a low carb diet, and as long as you're eating those 3 meals and 2 snacks you shouldn't start losing weight.
1715838 tn?1330648200 Hopefully others who use the MH Diabetes tracker will come along and provide you with tips. In the meantime you can download the Atkins carb tool by Googling "atkins carbohydrate counter list". The food list is quite extensive and detailed and is 106 pages.
Avatar m tn You need to be sure you are using the right Insulin Carb ratio for your doses before meals and that you have an accurate carb count. Calorieking.com is a good resource for carb listings in addition to what's on packages (and be sure to correctly measure servings). In order to gain weight you want to increase your protein and fats so that you can gain weight without increasing carbs.
Avatar n tn Plus, remember that you are adding a 1/2 c. or more of milk to that cereal and you need to add in the carb count for the milk. If you add fruit, once again you need to figure out the carbs and remember that a portion would be 1/2 of a banana or 1/4 c. of berries. The way most people eat their cereal, they are easily consuming over 100 gms. of carbs in one bowl!!!! The most you should have per meal is 45-60 gms. The low end is for women and the high end number is for men.
Avatar n tn BG numbers carbohydrates raise BG ALL carbs not just sugar (sugar is a carb) whole wheat has carbs and rice and fruit and jams/jellies potato... the list goes on .
Avatar f tn Its a chance you can get it i know it may scare you to get it I have it with this baby but not with my first three but I'm high risk even not being pregnant it runs on both side of both sides of my family but eating right and watching your carb in take you should be just fine good luck
Avatar f tn I do work out, but I do have some weight to lose. I know all about complex carbs, carb count, protein with meals, and glycemic index and insulin resistance. All I ever see online is pre-diabetes and that's it. Being that this has been going on for a short time, I feel that it may be something else. I am going to the doctor in two weeks, but I'd like to research other possible causes while I wait.
Avatar n tn So all proteins are good, (meat, fish, cheese), and most vegetables are low carb. You can to go calorieking.com for a list of the nutrients in all common foods and packages also list carbs.
Avatar f tn the diet thing is ridiculous! They should have you meet with the dietician to learn how to count carbs and how to spread them out throughout the day. I didn't like my dietician because she kept trying to force a strict diet on me which ended up making my sugars really low. My advice is to try to get a variety of food throughout the day...
Avatar n tn However, if insulin resistance is the main problem for a type 2 diabetic, then lowering the carb count may not really be the solution, and medications to help the insulin-resistance problem still may be needed. Also, most type 2 diabetics need to watch their weight, for being overweight is frequently part of the cause of their diabetes (excessive fat cells increase insulin resistance).
Avatar f tn I have Gestational diabetes you want to limit your carbs..since carbs turn into surgar eat every meal and stay away from sugar that includes natural sugars like in fruits and juices.
Avatar n tn Okay, we're now about 5 days into learning that our daughter is diabetic. So really any info at this time is going to be greatly appreciated. Some of our most immediate concerns revolve around diet. We fully understand how to do the calculations we need, how to check labels, really most of the basics. But we are also trying to find resources that are a little more specific as to snacks that are no-carb, low-carb.
8526246 tn?1405601876 For breakfast I get 1 milk, 1 carb, 2 protein, 1 fat. For snack I get 1 fruit (no juice), 1 carb, 1 meat. For lunch I get 1 milk, 3 veggies, 1 fruit, 3 carb, 3 meat, 2 fat. Afternoon snack I get 1 fruit, 1 carb, 1 protein. For dinner I get 3 veggies, 1 fruit, 3 starch, 4 protein, 3 fat. Bedtime snack I get 1 milk, 1 carb, 1 protein. It's a lot of food. I found salads worked well and I combined a lot of my food that way.
Avatar n tn There are diabetic education classes all around and scads of book and just try Googling "diabetes diet" for something sensible like a day or two of meal plans. The big thing is carbohydrate counting so get a carb book. If he takes Humalog insulin, dose would be 1 unit per 10 grams carb. If not, you must watch the simple sugars carefully. Small amounts of fruit are okay and larger amounts can be tolerated after eating protein.
Avatar f tn It would help if I had a list of foods to go grocery shopping for, and what I could or couldn't eat.
Avatar f tn t hurt if you are trying to keep your carb intake low. So, just make sure to count it into your carb allowance if you are following exchange lists (let me know if you don't know what I'm talking about and want some help with it or something). I am also on metformin, the same dose, but after awhile I seem to have gotten used to it and it no longer makes me sick unless I don't eat while taking it.
Avatar f tn t have to stop eating what you like, just portion control, carb count (which *****) and tons of water. My dietician was very helpful and provided resources to help me through it. Don't be like me and go crazy on junk food after delivery, lol. I eat 8 chocolate chip cookies almost every day now, trying to make up for lost time, lol .
798555 tn?1292787551 2) What / how do you know what Type of diabetes your pre-diabetes is? 1 or 2, I dont quite understand the difference. thank you in advance for helping me keeping this under control!
Avatar f tn there is another approach which uses both short and long acting insulins and calculates dosages based on how much carb and protein you eat. Critical is to count carbohydrates and to determine exactly how much insulin you need to cover how much carbohydrfates. Don't give up. YOu are young and you can manage this with the right information and tools (insulin, diet, exercise).
8369322 tn?1397826669 I've been a type 2 diabetic for over 3 years. It crept up slowly on me, but when my A1C broke through 7.0, I was given 90 days to see a significant drift downward, or begin a drug therapy. I immediately began a paleo style diet. I refused to eat anything containing "white"; bread, sugar, rice, potatoes, pasta...PASTA!!. I also shunned grains of any kind like rolled oats, wheat. Also out were honey, most fruits, lots of types of beans, peas, and corn.
Avatar f tn I just found out I have gestational diabetes and I am freaking out....I'm only 17w2d and I feel like the worst mtb on the planet. Generally I don't eat amazingly, but I THOUGHT I was doing pretty well, note I was not diabetic prior to conception. Now my kitchen looks like a death trap for my baby boy and I'm terrified anything I eat is poison for him. I need a list of foods that are okay to have but so much that I'm finding is the food I was already eating...
Avatar n tn I am male, 44. Found diabetes before eight months. I am not taking any medicine. Once I visited a doc who precribed me a long list of medicines and again I declined to take the medicines. My count is about 240(fasting) and about 300 rendom. I am quite normal with my health. I heard that the medicine will create the health unbalance. In the case of dibetes, I think, doctors are acting like dealers and treating patients as clients.
