Tbd I recommend low carb (20 - 50 g a day), moderate protein (approx. 0.8 - 1 g / kg of body weight), and the fat that comes naturally with the selected foods; enough that you are not hungry. Note: you must not eat low fat foods - eat regular fat foods, use butter, oil reasonably in cooking, choose fatty meat cuts, avocado, etc).
Avatar f tn I'm half Indian, Indian food is spicy. But I find myself adding more spiciness to my food. Like I don't want to eat my food unless it's spicy enough.
Avatar f tn Then you need to know your carb/insulin ratio. count the carbs and take the proper amount of insulin. and test your BG after 2 hours and 4 hours to see if your BG is in range. if its too high you need to check on your carb/insulin ratio to see if it needs adjusting.
9714743 tn?1466703906 since the carb count in any food veries very widely from 4 for a cup of brcokoly to 68 for ice cream. knowing the "big or small" of a meal is useless. you need to know how much of what you ate. Back to the OP post if you can eat 20 gr of carbs and have good BG (BG under140) then eating more than 20 gr is going to lead to elevated BG. Elevated BG leads to going blind, going on dialyses, hart attacks, excuseating pain in the feet which leads to gang green and foot/leg amputation.
Avatar n tn Does that website have a listing of foods with CHO's only? It looks like they have alot of stuff including a hefty membership fee. I'm always sorry to see that. What I want is a list that only has carb counts of many many foods. I have a book or two with that but I want it online, ready for me to cut and paste and make it customized for my twin daughters.
193609 tn?1292180293 So when people cut back or out on these types of foods, they tend to load up on foods that are lower in calories (most of the time) so they do actually end up eating restricted calories to some degree even if they arent adamently tracking their calorie intake. The quality of your calories and carbs do make a difference though so I cut back on most processed packaged foods and eat as many whole or real foods as possible.

Avatar n tn Hi i just recently read some very recent articles from doctors saying that the atkins diet could be a very good way of eating for diabetics because of the low carb approach that insulin is hardly affected. To me it makes sense cause i wouldn't mind my great aunt who is a diabetic to try the atkins or another low carb diet to help here with her blood sugar problems.
Avatar n tn Plus, remember that you are adding a 1/2 c. or more of milk to that cereal and you need to add in the carb count for the milk. If you add fruit, once again you need to figure out the carbs and remember that a portion would be 1/2 of a banana or 1/4 c. of berries. The way most people eat their cereal, they are easily consuming over 100 gms. of carbs in one bowl!!!! The most you should have per meal is 45-60 gms. The low end is for women and the high end number is for men.
1085545 tn?1284042254 I am also a vegetarian and found I had to make some drastic changes in my diet, but I am now able to eat a variety of foods and enjoy cooking again. What you need to reduce is your intake of carbs. If you are used to eating a large amount of rice (for me the problem was pasta) you will have to change that.
Avatar n tn A well balanced diet will keep anyone healthy. The best foods for him are the same foods that are good for you. However, lower carb foods can help prevent highs. Avatar f tn The December 2010 issue of “Science” reported experiments designed to decrease response to certain types of foods. People who repeatedly imagined eating a particular food ate less of it. The researchers theorize that the act of mental imagery decreased the subjects’ responsiveness to the food and decreased desire to eat it even though they still considered the food palatable.
Avatar m tn She said to limit my carb intake to 180g per day. So instead of counting calories I count carbs (I also keep track of calories though). I worked out 3 of my 6 days for p90x and still lost 6lbs last week by doing this. So excited because I did p90x for 30days without skipping any days and I was staying in my calorie range, and I only lost 2lbs and I gained a body fat percentage. I was not watching my carbs. Now that I am, I have felt better and am finally dropping pounds. Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn For me, personally, this insulin solution offers almost perfect control, with very even-keeled numbers and no unexpected drops when things peak (an occasional low may happen if you miscalculate the carb count of a meal, but you know when to look for this to happen -- 1-2 hours after mealtime). The key is to have first of all the correct base dose for your needs, and second, the correct mathematical formula to adjust your quick-acting insulin dose when necessary.
1290943 tn?1272093764 I am able to eat one slice of good bread for toast. You can also find lower carb breads. Eggs are about the best for the morning as for many of us it is the time we can eat the least carbs. Has she figured out her insulin:carb ratios? Mine are definitely lower in the morning (mine are 1:7, 1:9 and 1:18). Btw this is the Type 2 forum!
Avatar n tn I use the sweet bee carb counter it lists 200 top foods and their carb and glucose level
Avatar f tn The paleo diet is the healthiest form of low-carb diet, IMO. I would not go on a low-carb diet that was composed of low-carb junk food. If you eat a paleo diet, you are only eating real, whole foods (no junk food) and no grains. It's a lot of meat, vegetables, and healthy fats.
