Avatar f tn I have been drinking beer for a while now, and just recently have been having allergic reactions to most beers. I used to drink Budweiser, Bud light, all the other special Bud's, Michelob ultra, Mickeys, and just about every cheap beer that comes in 40 oz. Recently while drinking these beers, I would breakout in red spots on my chest, arms, and my face would turn red. I would also have difficulty breathing.

Calorieking.com is a good resource for carb listings in addition to what's on packages (and be sure to correctly measure servings). In order to gain weight you want to increase your protein and fats so that you can gain weight without increasing carbs.

People who eat low carb with ultra high protein and low fat run into the gluconeogenesis problem, which is your body taking some of the ultra high protein intake and making sugar (glucose). This is why some people get high blood sugar and heart racing after drinking a large protein shake (with low carb and no fat). Eat fat with your proteins, like full fat yogurt.

Avatar f tn If you are going to do low carb, you have to do it correctly. Protein us insulinogenic. If you eat low carb ultra high protein meal, your body with pump insulin into blood stream, which is then followed by drastic lowering of blood sugar (feeling tired, sluggish, etc) and then to compensate, the body generates glucose from some of the protein via a mechanism called gluconeogenesis. Kind of a bummer, if you are avoiding sugar to begin with and then your body creates it from protein.

For me at least, things got much better. It took some time, but I've got a lot more energy at 32 weeks than I did at ten. It doesn't necessarily remain the same throughout.
Avatar f tn Then you need to know your carb/insulin ratio. count the carbs and take the proper amount of insulin. and test your BG after 2 hours and 4 hours to see if your BG is in range. if its too high you need to check on your carb/insulin ratio to see if it needs adjusting.

Critical is to count carbohydrates and to determine exactly how much insulin you need to cover how much carbohydrfates. Don't give up. YOu are young and you can manage this with the right information and tools (insulin, diet, exercise).
Avatar m tn I seem to be able to keep my girlish figure now without too much effort, although I still opt for lower carb choices when possible. And I did give up my luxurious mega-carb microbrews. Sticking to michelob ultra now for the most part. Who knows though, maybe they'll come out with a pond scum microbrew soon? They'll call it "Frogger's De-lite"...or something.

Avatar n tn Plus, remember that you are adding a 1/2 c. or more of milk to that cereal and you need to add in the carb count for the milk. If you add fruit, once again you need to figure out the carbs and remember that a portion would be 1/2 of a banana or 1/4 c. of berries. The way most people eat their cereal, they are easily consuming over 100 gms. of carbs in one bowl!!!! The most you should have per meal is 45-60 gms. The low end is for women and the high end number is for men.
Avatar f tn Missed periods since a teen, so the doctor took BLOOD WORK and found my hormones to be all messed up, the next step was an INTERNAL ULTRA SOUND which did show that I have small cyst inside my ovaries. The worse part is the only way to control it is birthcontrol which I totally refuse to do. So anyways hopefully this was helpful. Def expect Blood Work & an Ultra Sound. Good Luck.

Avatar f tn I am 17 weeks and have gestational diabetes. Luckily, I'm only having to monitor my blood sugar 4 times a day...so far so good. Hopefully it stays this way so I won't have to go on medication or insulin. Unfortunately, I am what they consider overweight and am predisposed. I have to say this has kept me in check and I have no gained any weight which was expected since I'm on low carb. This has been a blessing on disguise.
Avatar f tn Definitely no sugar but it helps to walk for at least 15 min after each meal. Watch out with fruits Iuusually count them as my carb when I would snack. I had GD last pregnancy and it was a challenge but I stuck to my diabetic diet and was able to control it. The great thing about it is I only gained 26 lbs total, unlike this time around I'm 30 weeks and have already gained 27!
Avatar f tn I think there are two types of Weight Watchers plans you can do, the plan where you count points and the one where it is a lower carb diet. Anyways, I gained weight on weight watchers before, when there wasn't the lower carb choice. I am now doign South Beach and have had success this week.
