Avatar f tn I am 17 weeks and have gestational diabetes. Luckily, I'm only having to monitor my blood sugar 4 times a day...so far so good. Hopefully it stays this way so I won't have to go on medication or insulin. Unfortunately, I am what they consider overweight and am predisposed. I have to say this has kept me in check and I have no gained any weight which was expected since I'm on low carb. This has been a blessing on disguise.
Avatar f tn t hurt if you are trying to keep your carb intake low. So, just make sure to count it into your carb allowance if you are following exchange lists (let me know if you don't know what I'm talking about and want some help with it or something). I am also on metformin, the same dose, but after awhile I seem to have gotten used to it and it no longer makes me sick unless I don't eat while taking it.
Avatar f tn When are you seeing " 400+count of sugar"? If at fasting, levels this high usually warrants the addition of insulin. At other times it is always in the best interest of the patient to consult with their primary care physician regarding adjustments/additions to existing medications. Keep in mind levels this high are dangerous to your well being.
8526246 tn?1405601876 For lunch I get 1 milk, 3 veggies, 1 fruit, 3 carb, 3 meat, 2 fat. Afternoon snack I get 1 fruit, 1 carb, 1 protein. For dinner I get 3 veggies, 1 fruit, 3 starch, 4 protein, 3 fat. Bedtime snack I get 1 milk, 1 carb, 1 protein. It's a lot of food. I found salads worked well and I combined a lot of my food that way. Also1 serving of milk = 12 ggrams of carb, 1 serving of fruit = 15 grams of carb, breads and starch = 15 grams of carb.
Avatar f tn They just suggested it because your more glucose sensitive in the morning, so they suggest not doing fruit at breakfast. And there is a carb count you should be following for meal and snack times. I got all my information from a registered dietician; I also have my bachelor's in nutrition. I Knew before hand that there was a carb count just couldn't remember the numbers. The suggest for breakfast and snack time to stay between 15 and 30 grams of carbs.
Avatar f tn My advice is to try to get a variety of food throughout the day... My carb numbers are 15g - 30g breakfast (it is hard for your body to deal with carbs in the morning so you may want to go lower until you know how much you can take) 30g - 40g for both lunch and dinner... Eat lots of proteins they will keep you fuller for longer and lots of low carb veggies (broccoli, spinach, stuff like that avoid corn it is high in carbs) Honestly, if she is dictating your whole diet I would question it!!!
Avatar n tn There are diabetic education classes all around and scads of book and just try Googling "diabetes diet" for something sensible like a day or two of meal plans. The big thing is carbohydrate counting so get a carb book. If he takes Humalog insulin, dose would be 1 unit per 10 grams carb. If not, you must watch the simple sugars carefully. Small amounts of fruit are okay and larger amounts can be tolerated after eating protein.
Avatar f tn Meats are carb free most cheeses some sugar free stuff is low in carbs but not always carb free. That is a big mistake sometimes people make thinking that just because its sugar free its ok but sometimes sugar free stuff is still loaded with carbs. Example i was going to buy peeps for her for easter they were sugar free but still loaded with 28 carbs. I would find a knew doc an see if carb counting may be a good step.
7712902 tn?1393734882 Fruit is pretty carb heavy..... Yes it's healthy carbs because it has fiber and great vitamins but you must take in to consideration they are still Carbohydrates and your body treats all simple carbs the same. 1 apple yields about 20-30 carbs, a banana is about 30+, and most fruits are similar. The only true difference between a piece of fruit and table sugar is fiber and vitamins as far as your body is concerned.
Avatar f tn Most fruits people think of as fruits are almost all carb. If it's not fat or protein it's carbohydrate, which is why the whole concept of low carb diets is off. Vegetables are carbohydrates, but it wouldn't be healthy do without them. What low carb really means, or should mean, is avoiding simple carbs, such as sugar and white flower. Most fruits as we think of them are high in sugar, though it's not as quick to metabolize into simple sugar as processed cane sugar.
Avatar f tn i am 47 and i work out constantly i only drinkwater with lemon in it, count my calories, watch everything i eat and i cant lose weight. what can i take or do to help me lose weight fast?
Avatar n tn I meet a nutritionist on Tuesday. I stick to a low carb and high protein diet. I do enjoy fresh fruit. Not excessive though. Not sure how to bring my sugar down.
798555 tn?1292787551 My diet is pretty much poultry for meat / protein, veggies , fruit. The only sugar I intake is in granola bars. I stopped eating potatoes last year. No white rice, only brown or American wild rice. I have had Autoimmune Hashimoto hypothyroid for at least 20 years, that is enough - on natural thyroid for that and doing OK.. Doc says diabetes is very possible based on my health facts. I will do what ever is needed to avoid diabetes, but ran out of ideas.
Avatar n tn That person would of had to eat alot of red meats. And yes its low carb. This means to count your carb it doesnt mean not to eat carb. So veggies and so on. Also healthy fats theyre important. And its also not about being a body builder. This diet low exercise like walking is recommended.
Avatar f tn I am having a terrible time trying to deal with food, as I am I have high Cholesterol and I am also on Blood Thinners, which means i cannot have too much Vitamin K, The Doctor thinks my blood sugar levels will improve once I am off the prednisone but so far it seems to be getting worse, my fasting count is usually about 275 and when i eat anything it goes up sometimes to 425 I am currently not on any medication for the diabetes, she is having me keep an close eye on the numbers and has sa
Avatar f tn t cause a spike in blood sugar such a cottage cheese and several veggies.
Avatar n tn Plus, remember that you are adding a 1/2 c. or more of milk to that cereal and you need to add in the carb count for the milk. If you add fruit, once again you need to figure out the carbs and remember that a portion would be 1/2 of a banana or 1/4 c. of berries. The way most people eat their cereal, they are easily consuming over 100 gms. of carbs in one bowl!!!! The most you should have per meal is 45-60 gms. The low end is for women and the high end number is for men.
1301482 tn?1325722991 simple carbs, such as those found in sodas, things made with white refined sugar, flour, white rice, and even fruit. The other type of carb is the complex carb (otherwise known as dietary fiber), which is found in whole grains, veggies, seeds, nuts, etc. The simple carbs are broken down quickly and enter the blood stream as sugar, which if not used, is then stored as fat. Complex carbs/fiber are broken down slowly and keeps you feeling fuller longer.
Avatar f tn The paleo diet is the healthiest form of low-carb diet, IMO. I would not go on a low-carb diet that was composed of low-carb junk food. If you eat a paleo diet, you are only eating real, whole foods (no junk food) and no grains. It's a lot of meat, vegetables, and healthy fats.
3060903 tn?1398565123 I'm trying to reverse my diabetes II with diet and my blood glucose levels are good., but only because i am limiting all sugar. The diet site that i'm using suggests 24 g of sugar a day. One banana a day is 14 grams of sugar therefore if I eat two bananas a day i'm over the suggested allotment. I'm wondering how am i suppose to get 2 or 3 pieces of fruit in my diet with these restrictions.
17593698 tn?1458185817 t spike your blood sugar. The best advice I can give is to start thinking in terms of Carb units (15 grams of carb = 1 carb unit) and try to balance your carb intake with fiber. Soluble fiber helps slow digestion and as a result minimizes spikes in blood sugar. Also meet with a diabetes educator and nutritionalist they are a great resource and can get you started on the right path. Good luck with the new adjustments, and now that you have millions of friends to lean on for support.
Avatar f tn s sugars, will also make it harder to control your diabetes. Every nutrient in fruit can also be found in vegetables. So the ideal diet contains lots of non-starchy vegetables and salad vegetables (excluding corn, and potato, which contain a lot of sugars - complex carbs, but still break down to sugar). The best diet for a person with diabetes is low carb, moderate protein and high (healthy) fats.
Avatar m tn You need to be sure you are using the right Insulin Carb ratio for your doses before meals and that you have an accurate carb count. Calorieking.com is a good resource for carb listings in addition to what's on packages (and be sure to correctly measure servings). In order to gain weight you want to increase your protein and fats so that you can gain weight without increasing carbs.
6896476 tn?1386858324 re not going to increase your veggies considerably. You will be minimizing your fruit and sugar intake by a great deal, next to no fruit in fact if your goals are to lose weight really fast but yes it can be done. You will increase your protein a lot and your fat will also increase. If you're going this route without exercise I highly recommend very lean meats, plenty of veggies, lots of water and watch your cholesterol as the fat in your diet may increase.
