A lot of people are afraid to try medications. It's true that you don't know how you'll react to it, but honestly, Prozac has a pretty good track record. MOST likely the worst thing that will happen is that you'll experience some start up side effects, which will improve after about 2 weeks or so. Out of all the antidepressants, Prozac is one of the better tolerated.
Be careful with the Xanax.
Prozac can be stimulating to some people. All ssris can. So for some, it will increase, not reduce, anxiety. Just keep an eye on how you respond over time, since it does take a few weeks for these to work. And you won't respond the same to every one of them. You might also want to consider melatonin if the medication doesn't help; it helps set the body clock, and melatonin is believed to be implicated in SAD.
it is okay to drink nonalcoholic beer with those two medications .it is okay to take vitamin D.you have to be careful with alcohol, especially because of the Xanax. I think you may have given me the wrong dose.
I am able to live with my attacks (which can get really bad at times) and I actually have a fear of taking meds. I think the only thing I will take is a child's dose of tylenol only when I have a fever or migrane. I have discovered that taking Vitamin B Complex capsules have helped reduce my stress and anxiety levels. Also, I still love taking Flinstone vitamins, on top of the vit B complex. I feel great when I don't miss out in taking one a day.
If used strictly on a PRN (as needed basis) you could take Xanax for the rest of your life and have no problems. But Xanax is best utilized on a short term basis, <4 months if used daily. For long term anxiety, which after 10 years we can all agree you have, a drug such as Klonopin is as effective as Xanax at controlling not only panic attacks but the anticipatory anxiety that usually comes with severe panic disorder. Best of all, it is prescribed for long term use, as in years.
It is a very safe drug, but can be very addictive. I know because I am addicted to Xanax. You will know if you become addicted to Xanax if you get to a point where it takes more than 2Mgs a day to help with the anxiety.
Don't abuse the Xanax because at high dosages, once you become addicted the withdrawl is absolutly horrible. Keep that Xanax dosage under 1Mg a day or less and you will be safe.
hi since march 3 i have been on prozac and xanax i have depression and anxiety...im a bit bettter but my dr said prozac is very stimulating and im not finding that im still depressed and dragging around....are others on prozac and xanxax with luck.....dr is thinking of adding a amphetimine when i next go back to see him...im thinking like ritalin or something....its been almost a month shouldnt i feel better...does xanax make the prozac not help with depression or something?
Prozac in the morning, .5 of xanax before bed(so i get SOME sleep) and its as needed during the day. I slept OK last night. I had a double chamomile tea and i warmed some milk. I'll try that again tonight.
I would tend to think the Xanax would make you sleepy. I cannot take Xanax, I have terrible hallucinations on Xanax. Your should adjust to the new doseage in a week or 10 days. Prozac helped me for years but after several years the effects quit working for me. I did really good on Prozac....a really good medication.
why would my dr put me on it knowing the xanax would affect it when he prescibed the xanax and prozac/...and i drank 6 non alkie beers the other night and felt like i got a buzz that is odd i have drank the stuff for 2 1/2 years with no effect..pharmmist said it might be that im on higher dose of xanx then i was the ativan.......or it was in my head a botttle has less thn 0.5 percent alchol by volume......
My doctor prescribed Xanax and a low dosis of Prozac and said to give it a try because she feels it is anxiety and stress (eventhough I don't feel anxious or stressed out) that is causing the strange palpitations considering that they have done all the necessary tests and determined that my heart is healthy ha, ha.... I have not been taken the medicine because after I got home from the pharmacy and read all the side effects (sucidal thoughts etc.) I got scared and decided not to take it.
However, it can be a little mentally addictive and can cause anxiety when you stop taking it IF you think that you HAVE to have it to avoid panic.
In my experience, if you can avoid taking another drug to get off another, then do so. Otherwise, you will start a cycle with no end - for example, what would you then take if you wanted to get off prozac, and then what to get off of that? See where I am going here?

no im not what you said @nursegirl "abuse" them. I was seen for a reason to help my depression and anexity , I went for help and I take the meds to help me get through all my life problems that has caused me to be seen my a pyscrtist.I am smart and know what to take. I don't need a lecture on thinking this is wrong .
i have had major anxiety for 4 yrs now to the point were i cant be elft alone again, and it is or i am letting it control my life i c drs i have just been switched or in the process of switching from paxil cr 50 mg daily to prozac and i take clonazepam. i c many take xanax. i have heard bad things about that. but i am wondering if prozac is a good med for really bad axiety and fears of dieing..everyday.
