I am currently on 20 mg of prozac and .5 of xanax. The insomnia from the prozac is crazy. I have a prescription for trazadone but do not want to take because of the interaction with the prozac. Ive been reading about melatonin. Has anyone tried taking it for sleep? Did it help? And will the insomnia from prozac get better and how long would that take?
You can take Xanax too and Xanax being a sedative, hypnotic, anti-convulsive, anxiolytic medication will make you even more tired and dizzy since you are already on Seroquel which is very sedative in its anti-psychotic kind of med. You get the extended release which should cause less sedation but still when mixed with a benzodiazepine such as Xanax it will add up and make you feel like you mentioned above.
All drugs have unwanted effects as well as therapeutic ones and mixing drugs will almost always carry a possibility of interaction. However, if this interaction is rare, your prescriber has presumably decided that the benefits of you taking Klonopin outweigh the risks. Yet again, you need to discuss this with your doctor.

However, over the years, I have smoked a joint or two while on prozac and xanax.. with no ill-effects (expect that it tended to make my anxiety worse). But I can't imagine that regular use is a good idea - with or without the meds you are taking. There is a lot of stigma surrounding MJ use, so a lot of people won't talk to their doctors about possible interaction effects. And for liability reasons, most doctors would tell you just not to smoke it.
I was in the ER because I seem to keep having anxiety attacks. My doctor started me on Prozac a week ago. She told me it usually takes 2 weeks before people start noticing any changes from it. My question is, is the Prozac going to help if my thyroid levels are still all wacky? I just feel so hopeless right now. I have never had trouble with anxiety and this is not fun.
I have tried prozac, lexapro, zoloft, and wellbutrin. They did absolutely nothing for my social anxiety disorder. There's no guarantee nardil will work either, but the literature suggests it is the best medication for my disorder.
I'm too afraid to take the pill form, but would gladly take it injected.
t safe and your pharmacist would not have filled the script if there was going to be an interaction....so long as you got these filled at the same pharmacy. If there were to be an interaction the pharmacist would have called your doctor with suggestions of something else. Hope this helps.
Im on 3 mg of xanax and 40 mg of prozac my dr told me i could have occasional beer with these meds....over the years i have been on ativan or klonopin and drank non alkie beer it does have 0.5 percent alchol by volume and had no affect..i also drank it while on abilify,risperdal.and celexa over the past two yeaars...........so is it ok to drink it with the xanax and prozac........i had a couple i and i thought i got a buzz..which has never happened when i was on ativan or klonopin.
i am currently taking 2mg of xanax 2x a day i also take 30 mg oxycodone 4x a day my dr retired no new dr will write both meds i am having xanax withdrawal.

A lot of people are afraid to try medications. It's true that you don't know how you'll react to it, but honestly, Prozac has a pretty good track record. MOST likely the worst thing that will happen is that you'll experience some start up side effects, which will improve after about 2 weeks or so. Out of all the antidepressants, Prozac is one of the better tolerated.
Be careful with the Xanax.
For the past several years, I have been developing anxiety which at first I believed to be a form of GAD (generalized anxiety disorder), but more recently appears to be related to seasonal changes (SAD), since the pattern of anxiety begins in September and gets worse as the days grow shorter. My doctor has prescribed Prozac, 20mg daily for about 6 months and Xanax, .5mg twice a day as needed, 40 total.
I recently got off Vicodin on January 2nd. It became addictive. I've been on Xanax for 10 years and I am tapering. I'm taking 1-1/2 mg. per day and I started taking Prozac at 10 mg. per day a week ago. I got a new dr and he says i am depressed and put me on 20 mg of Prozac...as some of u know i have had problems for some time..well today is my 4th day on the prozac and he also had me stop my ativan and put me on a high dose of xanx 6 mgs....but im not taking that much he ssiad i could play around with the xanx dose,,,but i feel kinda more depressed today and im so drowsy and dizzy and my walking is bad kinda feel like im in slow motion and just cant walk good cause of the dizziness.
I've been on prozac13 yrs, my therapist retired and isn't prescribing meds anymore just got cut off prozac and xanax can't find a doctor to prescribe my Prozac until I can find a new therapist close by. i was on xanax for 17 years and it was my happy pill then i cold turkeyed off it in 2007 have been on either ativan or klonopin since....in march a dr put me back on xanax and im wondering if it will help with my anxiety..or maybe it wont work since i was on it so long...i havr refractory depression and on prozac and adderall and cant tell much differnce..its been a month on the adderall all ist does is up my heartrate adn makes me get all anxious over that..

Doctor says that you can have 2-3 beers with meds based on an interaction we call increase, in this case, increased sedation while taking xanax, alcohol and any medications that can have sedative proprieties. This is a vague estimation not based on your metabolism, health and many variables. 2-3 beers is considered safe because 2-3 beer won't get your a strong sedative effect unless you drink 3 strong beers really fast.
recovering drug addict with 3 years clean with the help of Paxil, Suboxone and Xanax. I'll prescribed by the same Doctor Who is aware of my past addiction issues. I myself wanted to cut out the benzo's and went for a proper diagnosis and sure enough my instincts were correct.
Diagnosis: OCD, ADHD, ASD. The last is a new one called autism spectrum disorder in the old DSM-IV it would've been called Asperger syndrome.
