Common Questions and Answers about Broken leg wheelchair

broken-leg

Avatar f tn 2 weeks ago I was hit by a car and had my leg broken, the knee socket crushed and my shoulder broken. They performed surgery on the knee about 12 days ago and are about to do surgery on the shoulder. Both are on the left side. Is there any set up I can use that will allow me to walk in any way? As I understand it I will not be able to use a crutch on my left side. Thanks!
Avatar m tn My wife was injured in a motorcycle accident last month. Nothing too serious but she broke her left leg and right shoulder. This has meant that she is housebound and unable to walk on crutches. I'm out in Chiang Rai over Songkran, and want to take her out and about for a few trips. Does anyone know where I may be able to hire a folding wheelchair, so that we can make a few excursions?
Avatar f tn When I sat back down in wheelchair or living room chair within 20 minutes the pain was gone. My PCP is wondering if I have one leg shorter than the other so he is ordering leg measurement X-Ray's at the end of this month. Any ideas out there?

Avatar f tn In 2007 I badly broke my leg (my toes were touching my knee bad), I was in a cast for almost my entire seventh grade year and for the first four or so months I had to be in a wheelchair with the cast up to my thigh. I started to be able to move around really well after the first month and about two or so months before they put me in a boot i was able to jump around my house on one leg for very long distances and then eventually walk around on my cast.
Avatar f tn She cannot use the wheelchair on her own, since her left arm, hand, and leg are lifeless, so the rehab team there are telling her to use her right leg and foot to wheel herself which from what I see, seems virtually impossible. Does this look like she'll never be able to advance to a walker?
Avatar n tn I'm 17 and have progressive leg weakness. I can't stand or walk and use a wheelchair. My bladder is not affected. But i am worried that i may develop lack of control from sitting in my wheelchair. I'm anxious about not making it to the loo in time. Is it possible to loose bladder control due to sitting down all of the time?
Avatar f tn My knees would often lock up and eventually the locking up turned into immobility. Thus I eventually went into a wheelchair. Now, I am in a wheelchair full time. However, I ask this question now as just recently (2.5 years ago) the joint of my elbow has been exhibiting the same thing. It began to lock up in August 2015 which was very painful. Now, both my arms are experiencing limited mobility. Neither are as limited as my legs, but my left arm is pretty close to equivalency.
5265383 tn?1669040108 ve Messed up my knee and am alternating between crutches and a borrowed wheelchair. The crutches are too much for my right arm and shoulder to handle. The wheelchair is tough to move with my poor right hand grip. This is a temporary situation -- but it got me thinking ... What does one do in this situation?
Avatar f tn it all depends on the root cause of ur leg twitches...it could also be restless leg syndrome which is associated with sleep apnea, most sleep clinics will ask about this issue when u go. Look into sleep apnea to rule it out as all with Chiari should. If ur twitches are Chiari related then they may dissipate post op....I had bad twitches but found mine are from EDS as well as some may have been Chiari related.....
1919316 tn?1324324689 My baby tends to stay more on the right side of my tummy and its the right side of my lower back, into my hip and down that leg that is really starting to cause pain. I have been taking pain meds throughout my pregnancy because it was best for me. But its getting really bad. I dont know what to do or how to relax my back. what can i do?
Avatar f tn This discomfort is almost constant and seems to be getting worst - although my increased worry about it could be playing a role in how I am perceiving the pain. My question is, has anyone else had leg pain/discomfort that became almost constant and lingered for months? I wish everyone on this site well as I know how challenging it is for many of us to make it through each day!
Avatar f tn And I was wondering if that will affect me and him concieving a child. He is in a wheelchair so there is no possible way for me and him to bd any other way. 2. 1760800 tn?1406753451 Yeah! So glad you had a good time on your vacation!!!! And good for you for doing it smart! I sometimes use a wheelchair when I'm out shopping. If I don't use a wheelchair, I use the cart to lean on, which also helps a bit. Lol about the w/c and Disney! That WOULD be awesome to a kid!!! I remember feeling slightly jealous of those who were able to do that when I was a kid....
368646 tn?1208393887 A TOS Specialist diagnosed me with "probable" TOS and prescibed Physical Therapy (PT). My mobility and overall health continue to decline. Therapists have now told me it can't be TOS since my leg is affected (I use a walker, but now pretty much need a wheelchair. FYI - I'm F/40.) Is it reue that TOS does not have leg involvement? Thank you!!
Avatar n tn Two of the many injuries were #1 A broken femur in two places requiring internal fixation and taking knee apart and #2 A crushed pelvis repaired one week later with plate and screws. This had to wait a week because of my week condition from other injuries. The last surgeon would not put me on blood thinner because he was concerned about internal bleeding. He did install an IVS filter because a blood clot had already started in one leg.
211940 tn?1267881266 I know that there is a "possibility" that people w/ MS, may need to use a wheelchair, what occurs to bring a person (w/ MS) to need to use a wheelchair?
382218 tn?1341181487 One or all of them may be acting up at any given moment- so I have forearm crutches (for most of the time), a wheeled walker, and a wheelchair (but I only need the wheelchair with profound numbness or if there is a long distance to be traversed). A couple of years ago, a cane was all I needed...
1897455 tn?1321396647 PN is damage to your nervous system resulting in loss of muscle use, loss of reflexes, poor coordination, and could spread to bone as an infection. If you ignore medical treatment it may result in amputation and a wheelchair. Please see your doctor, like yesterday.
Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
Avatar f tn or nod off. The condition is mostly the reason I will become wheelchair bound, lasting for a few (3-5) days. Occasionally I am able to perform a stationary task without discomfort, but if I attempt to move around, I lock up and twist again. Quite a few times it has caused me to fall. The spasms and involuntary "jerks" and twitches have become more violent and frequent.

Avatar n tn For instances say you were a healthcare profeesional and you had to transfer a HIV and Hep C infected person from a wheelchair to the bed. The person has been using a urinal all day without washing his hands, as well as, scratching himself. You were wearing gloves, but the patient still manged to grab your arm and felt as if he had scratched you. However when looking a your arm you see no areas of reddness, visible cuts, or broken skin on your arm. What is risk of transmission?
233622 tn?1279334905 I did a little thinking about this when I was having trouble walking (which thankfully I don't have issues anymore). I would check in to what your insurance company will cover. Scooter are way cheaper, if you have to pay for it yourself. If your insurance covers both, you may consider having the insurance company cover the motorized wheelchair and pay for a scooter yourself if you want both. Most insurance companies won't pay for both.
