broken-leg

Avatar n tn I've had my left ankle broken on sept 29, it was a fibula frature with a tibia dislocation, was on splint for a week, had surgery on oct 7th,plate + screws + a very long screw to place my tibia on the right place, splint for another week, then my orthopedist put me on aircast Air Stirrup Universe since then. He told me to start physical therapy a week after surgery, but I waited until 2 weeks. Now my foot hurts on an area that has nothing to do with the fracture.
Avatar f tn I am off work for 6 months, I will still have cam walker till october, but then can switch to a cane instead of crutches, will parobally have cam walker until december, and then ankle brace for 2 years. I would recommend personally, and you could talk to your doctor to confirm what suits you best, but i have been taking calcium and magnesium suppliments, as well as D and C and a B100 to boost my immune system, as well as help my body heal the fractured bone.
Avatar n tn Tibia is the shin bone that bears most of the weight and the Fibula is the splint bone located on the outside of the lower leg. In the case of a closed fracture there may be swelling and discolouration due to the large amounts of blood that emanate from a fractured bone. The usual healing time for a mid-shaft Tibia and Fibula fracture treated with cast immobilisation is 12 to 16 weeks.
Avatar f tn I had full casts to the knee for 8 weeks, and then switched to a cam walker air cast/boot. I will have the cam walker/boot for 6-8 more weeks and then swtich to a brace, no more crutches and a cane. Union usually takes 3 to 4 months. There can be a delay in union and the fracture can take upto 18 months for union.Delay in union is thought to occur because the talus has a poor and fragile blood supply. Avascular necrosis is it's self not a big problem.
Avatar n tn ll bet during your first two weeks you swapped two of three pounds of fat weight, for two or three pounds of leg muscle weight. You probably have enough leg muscle, so the weight now ought to be slowly coming off (so long as you reduce your calorie intake -- it's not enough to drop rice and fill up on other stuff). Brisk walking's more useful than merely strolling slowly.
Avatar n tn I broke my shattered my tib and broke my fib 6weeks ago i had a metal rod put in my leg im guessing for the tib and had 2 screws juat below my knee and 2 screws above my ankle. my question to anyone that knows is wat is the healing time for this injury? im going for my xray on 17/11/09 to c how the bone is healing and tghe hopefully i shud be able to weight bear.

Avatar f tn 2 weeks ago I was hit by a car and had my leg broken, the knee socket crushed and my shoulder broken. They performed surgery on the knee about 12 days ago and are about to do surgery on the shoulder. Both are on the left side. Is there any set up I can use that will allow me to walk in any way? As I understand it I will not be able to use a crutch on my left side. Thanks!
Avatar f tn The dr went in thru my wrist, and when I awoke from procedure, my right side, in particular my fingers and my leg were numb..Here it is December and I am still experiencing difficulty, with fingers on right hand and have to use a walker now, to get around..is it possible that I have nerve damage, from the dr going in thru my wrist?
20843126 tn?1532082882 Hi There, As the titles said, my mother had a surgery last year (Hip Joint Replacement), over the few months it was ok to move on with the walker, but since the time my mother had pain in the leg (not the in the artificial hip joint), pain and stiffness, sometimes she is not able to walk one ladder step and sometimes not even walk with walker.
Avatar n tn Subsequently, she cannot put weight on her right leg without pain, has pain in her groin, and weakness in the right leg to the point of being on a walker. The only treatment given for this is hydrocordone pills which are partly effective. The injection accident happened about two months ago and she has been in almost constant pain from that time with no improvement. If the femoral nerve is damaged, what treatment would help her?
Avatar m tn I was incredibly drunk in San Francisco and agreed to let a street walker perform oral for a very small price. She quickly offered to have sex once we got to the laundry room (I know right?) and I was like well okay, but with a condom! And we used one but we were constantly interrupted so I would leave then return and put a new one on. At one point I pulled out and noticed no condom on me. I have NO idea why - a break, or did it slip off - and we quickly put another one on.
1816210 tn?1327354884 I do have a walker. I have the walking frame type, as well as the rolling type. Thanks! I never thought of that. I think I can make that work.
368646 tn?1208393887 A TOS Specialist diagnosed me with "probable" TOS and prescibed Physical Therapy (PT). My mobility and overall health continue to decline. Therapists have now told me it can't be TOS since my leg is affected (I use a walker, but now pretty much need a wheelchair. FYI - I'm F/40.) Is it reue that TOS does not have leg involvement? Thank you!!

Avatar f tn Nurse practioner said, after examination, that he would be sore, but he did not have a broken hip or bone. He seems OK when seated or lying down, but when he tries to walk with the walker, he says it hurts a lot, especially in his right groin. The doctor says he could not walk at all if his hip were broken or cracked. Anyone know if this is true? Could he be walking if his hip were fractured? I want to trust the doctor, but I see my dad's expression when he walks, and then I wonder.
Avatar f tn s done but showed no signs of MS. Her lumbar MRI showed broken bones?? She also has weakness in her right side and had a foot drop. She has had a scope of her bladder and also had cat scans, blood work and the test where they fill the bladder. Nobody can come up with a diagnosis for her. She has no urges and her bladder does not contract whatsoever and she has an abnormal sphincter muscle. This is something that happened all of a sudden.
Avatar f tn She cannot use the wheelchair on her own, since her left arm, hand, and leg are lifeless, so the rehab team there are telling her to use her right leg and foot to wheel herself which from what I see, seems virtually impossible. Does this look like she'll never be able to advance to a walker?
1123420 tn?1350561158 and then use the walker closer to 5 months. If you want to put him into his walker to make gramma smile i would see no harm in doing it for a few minutes but if he looks like he's having trouble supporting himself just take Him out and wait a few weeks.- -insert smiley face here....

Avatar f tn What do you think my chances are of getting strength back in my right leg and getting rid of siatica for good? Left leg is fine. Any information will be most helpful, I am 59 woman and I also have lost 70 lbs too.
Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
Avatar f tn My 83 year old mother had a gluteus medius tendon tear (completely) which was repaired in May of 2010. She is still using a walker, and the muscles in her leg are getting weak. Her doctor had done the repair surgery only one time before hers and doesn't know what to tell her to expect or if therapy is acceptable. She is hoping to get off the walker and to drive again. Is physical therapy appropriate after such surgery? How long should she expect to be on the walker?
Avatar f tn The pain can either be a dull ache along the side of my foot (not on the bottom) or a shooting pain that goes across the top of my foot (near my leg). I do seem to have some swelling there as well. I am overweight. I work 12 hour shifts at a hopsital...and it is definately worse when the shifts are busy and I am on my feet more. I used to do the walk fit DVDs, but can't anymore because of the discomfort after only 5 minutes.
