I was recently told that if I didn't get the surgery now, that it's just a matter of time before I will become a quadriplegic. I have had my herniation grow from 4mm-20mm and I am also suffering from hydrocephalus.I just wanted to see if anyone else has heard that this could become a side effect.

Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
Avatar f tn I'm a quadriplegic with myelomalacia, post traumatic syrinx, tethered spinal cord, multiple bulging disc C3-T1, 2017 C2 C3 fusion, 2020 syrinx symptoms begin, 2022 C2, C3 and C4 decompressive laminectomy, 2022 shunt placement. The shunt was supposed to help with my symptoms. However, they keep getting worse. Causing nerve pain on my face, lack of feeling. Why is it affecting my face? Why is it still getting worse? Will I ever have a new normal? Every day my body is changing.

Avatar m tn He says I am at an increased quadriplegic risk in a bad fall or car accident. Another surgeon is saying not to operate now. (I am 62) He said my symptoms are not bad enough and the quadriplegic risk is not enough to do this surgery. He says I am opening a can of worms and the other bones will wear out faster and I will need several more fusions. He said he'd rather operate on me at 72 for the 1st time than at 72 for the 3rd time. This is a very hard decision for me to make.
1149046 tn?1264361586 It involves removing part of the ball or head of the femur or thigh bone, thereby allowing it to fuse with the socket of the hip bone in the straight leg position. She will be left with a stiff, a pain free hip, and a straight leg which will not bend at the hip joint. Complete hip replacement is a better option the surgeon will choose if he can. All the best for your mom! Take care!

6150006 tn?1496080243 I had my surgery on 10/31, came home on 11/5. I had a bout with back & leg pain & am on a decreasing dose of Dexamethasone. Did exceptionally well until I dropped the initial high doses. But my big concern is a feeling of sadness & wanting to cry a lot. Has anyone else experienced this? My surgery was 4 hours - thinking about the duration and amount of anesthesia & any relationship there.
Avatar f tn Hi ..right leg broken severly after 7 months no improvement in bone..
1542537 tn?1293207098 Hi, broken bones take a varying amount of time to heal, mostly depending upon the type of bone broken, the age of the person, and the way in which the bone is broken. Larger broken bones, for example the bones in the thigh, or both bones of leg would take a great deal longer to heal, usually six weeks to three months in the average healthy adult. Begin physical therapy as soon as is practical. That will help.
Avatar f tn Has anyone broken their pelvis during pregnancy? I broke mine in a car accident years ago and never had any problems with my first baby. This baby dropped at 28wks and my dr says he is almost certain this baby has broken it again. I'm scheduled for csection next week, which is a huge relief with the pain, but he said it could take 6-12wks to heal. Was wondering what other peoples experience was? Did it get better after delivery?

Avatar f tn Has anyone broken their Tibia and fibia? I broke mine two years ago and am still having problems. I have a plate and eleven screws. I am thinking of having them taken out in the hopes that it will releive some of the discomfort. Any information from someone who has done this would be great.
Avatar m tn I would also try to straighten it out throughout the day by putting it in my left pant leg between my pants and my leg. Anyway... it still works fine now it just has a slight curvature to the left. My question is could there still be complications associated with the fracture or do you think I'm fine? Also do you think it's possible that my penis did not fully develop to it's full potential size due to the fracture?
Avatar n tn Tibia is the shin bone that bears most of the weight and the Fibula is the splint bone located on the outside of the lower leg. In the case of a closed fracture there may be swelling and discolouration due to the large amounts of blood that emanate from a fractured bone. The usual healing time for a mid-shaft Tibia and Fibula fracture treated with cast immobilisation is 12 to 16 weeks.
Avatar f tn I have a son that was shot 8 years ago and left him quadriplegic. He is on oxycontin which helps him deal with the pain he has in his limbs. That has increased from 10mg 2 times a day to 50mg 3 times a day and then has 5mg to take for what the Doctor calls break through pain. Well, I take care of all his medications and have tried myself to cut him down gradually with some satisfaction. Now, heres the problem.
Avatar n tn Hi about a year ago while i was doing jumping jacks i pulled a muscle in my left leg now i have a pain in my inner groin, when i step a certain way or try to do any jumping exercises.
Avatar f tn The usual period for healing is around 6-8 weeks, but lower leg fractures take a little more to recover. The initial one week period is also taken into account. Follow up is advised every two weeks to see whether alignment is proper or not. In case of misalignment found at any point of treatment surgery might be necessary. Hope this information was helpful. Best.
