My 3 lb Maltese broke her hind leg and had surgery. Three pins were put in place to hold her leg together but in a matter of days one of the pins slipped out and she had to have another surgery exactly 1 week after her first surgery. She now has a pin that is sticking out of her hip (about 1/2 inch) to hold the bone in place, eventually the vet says he will remove this pin (the pin could be in place for 4 weeks depending on how she heals).
However fast forward a week on and I started having shooting pain from my Achilles heel and up my calf every time I walked, this also put pressure on my knee joint thus causing more pain( I have no knee, as this was taken out in 2001) on top of this, my leg feels heavy with tingling/ pins and needles sensation when I rest it...?
The doctors at the local hospital placed a steel rod Inside the broken tibia and held it in place with 3 pins (after little research I think it is called an Intramedullary rod). For the first 3-4 years I didn't notice the the metal in my leg and lived a normal life each day, i.e. running, mild gymnastics training, caring for my elderly father(heavy lifting), and the life of a 16-20 year old. I am now almost 21.
I was given the choice to do a cast or metal rod with pins through my leg for a speedy recovery in witch i choose. It was put through the lower part of my leg down to my ankle Big mistake! I can't even walk a mile without my leg killing me. Hurts from my Knee down to where there is a small bump (feels like bone) on top of my ankle. I need to know if the rod and pins can be removed? If so how fast is the recovery and will the pain go away?
I broke three fingers on my right. Ihave three pins in my little finger, three pins in my ring finger, my middle finger is also broken but didn't require pins. They are all broken in the first bone right above the knuckle.I am very concerned about the mobility of my hand after the pins come out. Next week is my surgery to have them removed.
I had all the gear removed 3 weeks ago and up until then, I couldnt run/jump and the leg would get sore through the pins if I stood for too long. The original break took about 6 months to get over and the screws supporting the rod were sore the entire time.
After getting it all taken out, I was on crutches for 2 days, and 2 weeks later I was running on a treadmill. My leg feels totally normal after getting it removed and I reccommend you to do the same.

I made her stand up and try to stretch it but got no real ease. She had a broken ankle 20 years ago. It has a plate, wires, pins and screws. She said the pain was above the plate, like an extreme cramp or someone was trying to pull the metal out of her!

ve been suffering from groin pain and numbness of my right leg after an ovarian egg retrieval. This was my third egg retrieval as an egg donor. Somehow during this last retrieval nerves were damaged most likely due to scar tissue being built up or the needle damaging the nerves. I've had ultrasounds and MRIs to my pelvis/hip that ruled out any broken bones or reproductive issues from the donation. The hip arthrogram actually made my pain worse.
I fracture my fibula, my tibia split up the middle, and just about all the bones in my shattered. I was in an external fix. for two weeks, followed by a surgery in which two plates, several pins, and a bone graft was inserted. That was about a month ago. My pain has been very minimal these past few weeks but lately, my left ankle (the broken one) has felt numbness, tingling, and shooting pains. Is this normal? Is it because I crutch a lot, and often forget to elevate my ankle?
Why you want to think about removal of rods and pins right away. I think you should be planning a step wise approach for your current concern.
Firstly you need to see an orthopaedician and evaluate the current problem as whether it is arising from joint or if any nerve compromise is present.
Secondly an imaging study is must to see for soft tissue pathology and placement of rods and pins and also to look for any displacements.

On July 14th I broke my FIbia and my Medial Malleolus and received a plate and 7 pins. Since then I have gone to two follow ups with the orthopedic surgeon. Both times he said everything looked good. Right now I am in an air cast and am told to start putting graduall weight over the last few weeks until I see him on September 21st.
The question I have and am worried about. When I saw him in August I received x-rays.
It was a spiral fracture and to fix it a titanium rod was placed in my fibula with pins holding it in place through the ankle and through the knee. I now have numbness on the inside of my lower leg. Should I call my doctor or wait for it to go away? Will it go away.
He then revised his diagnosis (which is fine) and said that I probably had a bulging disc L5/S1, which was causing the pins and needles down my leg. Now (17-Sep), the pins and needles have subsided somewhat but I am now getting concentrated pain in my hip, knee and ankle. I haven't been to see my GP but will do so next week. I only took over the counter anti inflammatories for about 7 days after the injury; and now I am not taking anything. Any suggestions on what this could be?
35 weeks preganant and only my left leg goes completely numb when im walking around its driving me nuts. Anyone else experienced anything like it?
I have pins and needles, and numbness in the right side of my body, right hand and right leg. In my right arm, this sensation is constant. It heightens during the night, when I sleep. At some point the increased sensation in my fingers wakes me up. In the leg, it is transient. The sensation moves up and down my leg from the thigh down to my toes. Physicians do not thing it is nerve issue. I appreciate advice. Thank you.
I'm 22w4d and I've had such a warm tingling pins and needless sensation in my left leg. The outside of the leg. I get no relief. It's not the sciatic nerve but it's some nerve. Help ladies! Anyone know any home remedies or anything that helps.
Lately my right arm and right leg have been falling asleep waaaayyyyy too easily. Every time I sit "Indian Style"
My right leg goes bye bye. Not just falls asleep and wakes when I move it, it is dead to the world. I have to physically move it with my arms, and the pins and needles as I move it is so unbearable sometimes I will have to site for 10 min while it wakes up before I can even move it at all.

I am only 30- I had a bad accident on a tram two years ago- I have a labral tear to my right hip which was Finally found through MRI and a fantastic Physio who wouldnt take the fact that I was in massive pain all the time to the point of where I cannot walk properly as just a mucsle damage. I was flown backwards in the air and hit the right side of my body into a metal barrier.
I have had surgery to my right rotator cuff in my shoulder and experience terrible back pain...
For the past month,the symptoms that have remained constant are fatigue and pins and needles. The pins and needles come are constant through out the day and usually get worse at night and is aggravated by heat. Does this sound like I might be having a MS attack or is this not consistent with a normal attack?
History information... my father, his aunt and two cousins have MS. I have received normal blood tests and MRI.
