The result was a double compound fracture of my right leg. Both major bones were broken and exposed about an inch about the ankle joint. Fortunately for me, when I arrived at the hospital, one of the best orthopedic surgeons in Las Vegas was on call. Two years, two surgeries (about 8 hours worth), a bone graft and six months in a wheel chair I am walking much better than I could have expected.
My question; I generally wear softer soled shoes ( walking tennies, etc.
I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone.
He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
On Jan 13th, I slipped and fell on tile floor at the hospital I work at landing on my hip and wrist. The pain was instant. The hip pain started only on the part of impact. Once I started physical Therapy 3 weeks after injury, I felt and heard a loud crack in the hip. It has since hurt to sit for extended periods, sit at 90 degree angle, stand, and walk more than 2000 steps. The xrays showed no broken bones and the mri showed nothing wrong as of 3 weeks ago( Today is April 4).
About 8 months ago I had a very serious surgery that left 4 screws in my pelvis and 4 screws in my femur and a rod in my femur, my leg was broken in 3 places and my pelvic ring was broken. I am pretty much fully recovered but I still find it hard to walk fast and for long periods of time, my knee starts to hurt. I was thinking taking the screws and rods out of my leg would help me walk better. How long do they have to stay in before I can have them taken out?
Thanks for your reply and you're right. In fact I've begun searching for a specialist as the hospital doctor has only advised me to operate ' in the future' and didn't think it was necessary to do another MRI to see the exact state of the ligaments or even that I should do any particular exercises to assist in recovering movement. Was left feeling quite perplexed.
Last Sunday I came home to find my wife sat behind the front door, she said Brian I have broken my leg, She had been putting seed in the bird feeders and fell from the ladder , then crawled all the way up the garden ,through the house to unlock the door so I could get in. SHE was blue lighted to the hospital she has broken her TIBIA below the knee and another bone .
So I have been having contractions about once an hr for the past week and on saturday I was having a discharge I went to hospital and my water wasn't broken or anyyhing. Today I have been extremely nausous and when I went to the bathroom an hr ago I noticed my panties where wet like I had peed myself a little but I don't want to go back to the hospital again tonight and be nothing. What should I do????
The nose end of the vehicle landed on her right lower leg, crushing the Tibia and Fracturing the Fibula. She was Med-Flighted the 40+ miles to Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children in Alabama. I would have preferred that she had been flown to UAB in Birmingham, Alabama but she was losing a lot of blood, so good thinking on behalf of the Med Flight Crew. Anyway, she spent 8 hours in the Pediatric Trauma/ER before seeing a surgeon...

Around 5 years ago my right tibia had received a clean break in the center of the bone as a result of a car incident. The doctors at the local hospital placed a steel rod Inside the broken tibia and held it in place with 3 pins (after little research I think it is called an Intramedullary rod). For the first 3-4 years I didn't notice the the metal in my leg and lived a normal life each day, i.e.
Due Nov 14 I woke up feeling some headaches and period like cramps came to the hospital and yess active labor. I'm still at the hospital stuck at 8 cm my water just got broken sooo hopefully my son makes his arrival soon. Wish me luck!!
