Avatar f tn When I was 31 y.o. I had an accident that left me w/ a broken femur ... leading up to days later a “ titanium rod “ being inserted into the broken femur . The initial days , etc. obvious moments of pain happened , over the years since then w/ the break eventually being healed = very ..,... minimal pain . In getting older = 64 y.o. now within the past couple of years thereabouts pain is reaccuring more & more , causing pain also in my hips and other leg .
Avatar f tn ll get to that later), a brain injury, and an open fracture to my femur. I now have a titanium rod along my femur. However, because of a leg length discrepancy prior to the injury, when the surgeons measured my right femur to determine how long the rod should be, the rod in my left leg is at least 1/2 an inch too long. Now, I have significant pain in my hip.
Avatar m tn As a result, I required nearly 10 hours of surgery to repair two badly broken legs and L forearm. During my recovery, my L femur was the most painful of my broken bones. However, since it healed, it has been the injury that has never caused any further issues/pain. Well, that is up until about 6 months ago when my femur started aching. Over the past few months, it has progressed to aching pretty much constantly.
Avatar n tn About 8 months ago I had a very serious surgery that left 4 screws in my pelvis and 4 screws in my femur and a rod in my femur, my leg was broken in 3 places and my pelvic ring was broken. I am pretty much fully recovered but I still find it hard to walk fast and for long periods of time, my knee starts to hurt. I was thinking taking the screws and rods out of my leg would help me walk better. How long do they have to stay in before I can have them taken out?
Avatar m tn Anyway I have nothing holding the broken femur they took all hardware out five years ago they found infection under the plate so they treated me with six weeks of vagomyason. I m getting worried about infection. my leg doesnt have fever but could infection be doing damage to my body without me knowing it?
Avatar f tn He says there is a risk the plate will break if I keep walking on a broken leg, so I need to make my decision quickly as to surgery. I appreciate your opinion/help greatly. You can imagine my stress level. This discussion is related to Angulated fix of femur.
Avatar n tn But otehr form repairing the bone , you can try to put soem stainless steel support on the replace of the broken bone.It is a safe teqniqie as my uncle had this operation at 1992 on his broken leg femur and he is still ok andno one even knows he had a surgery.
Avatar n tn Hello. 11 months ago I was in a car accident and broke my left femur in 2 places (on the top by my pelvis and in the middle). After my first surgery, they put a titanium rod through my femur and a plate connecting the top of my femur with my pelvis. After about 5 months, my doctor told me the top of my femur was fully healed but the middle had stopped healing and he needed to go in and replace the rod with a bigger one to stimulate bone growth.
Avatar m tn is it posible for a broken femur cut a main artery. and have you ever heard of this happening? I'm talking about a nonunion femur cutting artery. Is a non-union life threating?
Avatar m tn I was in an accident 8 years ago which left me with a broken femur. The doctor put a rod in my leg to help with the break but said that it was a little too long for my leg, and that I would probably have to have it removed. Soon after my leg healed, I was sent to prison and spent 5 years there. While in prison I worked out with passion, I ran, and played sports all day long. I trained with weights, often having up to 405lbs on my back for squats, and 495lbs for deadlifts....
Avatar f tn I had a bad car accident when I was 19 and had multiple fractures. I recovered in about three months from a broken leg, femur, hip, arm, shoulder and pelvis all on my right side.... The docs were pretty impressed but I did it all because I couldn't afford.to stay in bed and needed a fast recoverie. All I'm saying hunn is that just because the situation seems bad it doesn't mean it will be like that for ever.
Avatar n tn Ten weeks ago, I suffered a fall and fractured my right femur. Surgery was done and a rod was put along with a ring near the site of fracture to provide additional stability. I think the rod is in the femur cavity and secured above my knee with a screw and also secured to the bolt which is driven into the femur head. After a month, I had a DVT incident and now I am warfarin as well. My fractured leg still hurts when I move it in certain angles.
Avatar f tn I wanted him seen ASAP because of the broken rear leg. The x-rays showed that the injury was about a month old and that it was already healed. It wasn't just a little break but the femur was actually snapped off. In order to fix it, they'd have to do a surgery that costs over $1500. Or... amputation (around $450- including pain meds). My question is--- do we HAVE to do anything? When we found him he wouldn't walk on the leg and I thought it was a new injury.
Avatar n tn I have not had a regular bowel ,movement in over 3 weeks. I have diahrea and even that hurts so much I cry. I am having shooting pains in my right leg. I can only stand for so llong w/out pain, and I can only sit o the doughnut for so long w/out pain. When I got my period it was hell. I felt pain moving from my sacrum to my front, was throwing up and miserable. lately, at night I get sick to my stomach and dry heave(which makes the back pain worse) and feel completly nausious.
Avatar m tn I have been in a terrible car accident that left me with a broken left elbow, wrist, femur and crushed right foot. I have recovered from all but the right foot pain requires me to take 60mg of Norco a day. I'am at a point in the recovery were 2 out of 3 doctors want to remove my leg from the knee down to relieve me of the pain and a hope for a better life. I cant come to the fact of losing my right leg at this point due to the mental pressure the accident has left on me.
Avatar m tn is there any tricks to getting comfortable. i have tried sleeping on my side and putting a pillow under my leg, but they are just temporary.
Avatar m tn He had emergency surgery to insert two external rods between his femur and lower tibia to stabilize the leg and was released to go home today. His ER surgeon said he should have plates and screws installed after the swelling subsides, in two to three weeks. My question is: how long can one wait for this type of repair? It seems like the bone pieces would start to regrow together in a random manner.
Avatar f tn After breaking my femur,I went through a bunch of surgeries. My right leg ended up being shorter than my left. At first,it didn't bother me but then I started to get a lot of pain in my right heel and left hip. A trip to the orthotics/prosthetics office showed that my right leg was an inch shorter than my left. They built a shoe with the added inch and the pain went away within a day. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I'm 21 old had a severe injury to my left leg tibia & fibula in motor bike accident got hit a lorry.. Broken Tibia bone came out making a hole in my skin, i had lost blood... Then i has surgery after 12 hrs, with a rod & 2 nails inserted only for Tibia, but they did nothing to broken fibula... Now after 11 months, I'm walking normally but still i cant run, jump & unable to climb stairs quickly... Please tell me, 1. when can i run & able climb stairs quickly? 2.
Avatar f tn Hi, my chinchilla, Screetch, had an emergency amputation of his right hind leg approximately one week ago. He remained in vet care until three days after the surgery. He came home with antibiotics and needing to be force fed. My question is two fold. First, will i need to supplement "good" bacteria, to replace those destroyed by the antibiotics?
Avatar n tn However, one more step to go and I fell forward landing on my left side and shattered left femur just below the femur ball that fits in the hip socket. After surgery went through a month of in-patient therapy and several months of in-home therapy. Was progressing but still experienced pain at point of shatter (not hip). Also noticed that my left leg was getting shorter (had extra sole added to left shoe twice and within a month or two limp returned).
Avatar f tn Hi in January 2017 I was involved in a freak accident resulting in a broken trochanter. I'm based in Spain and no one has given me a solid answer as to what can be possible. Im a professional motorcycle racer and since the initial break it has moved a further two times, now sitting next to the head of my femur. Could anybody give their advice?
Avatar f tn My mum broke her femur and and one of the bones in her hip about 2.5 years ago when she fell crossing the road. She had a titanium nail inserted and screws at the top of the femur and knee. She now walks with a stick and her mobility is very limited dud to the pain she is suffering in her knee, leg and hip. I don't understand why the metalwork has not been removed as I think this might remove the pain. I also broke my femur one month after my mum in a skiing accident.
Avatar n tn My left femur bows and even takes a twist AND makes it shorter than my right femur. I had surgery at 14, tumor was benign, and they put staples in all of my growth plates in my right knee (to let the left catch up) and stables in 1 side of my right knee to try and even out my left femur. Since I have been fine however I get the basic arthritis in the cold, etc along with my left knee not lining up right it bugs me. My question is, I am 28 now, things have changed since then.
Avatar f tn I broke my upper femur several years ago and had to have a rod and screws put in the region near the hip. It has been moderately painful over the years but recently become so bad on some days i have to use a cane to get around, im 59yrs old and never smoked and do alot of exercise including yoga. Should i get the rod and pin removed or just learn to live with the bad days?
Avatar n tn Hi- I broke my femur a few years ago. After numerous surgeries,my right leg is now 1" shorter than my left. I stand for hours at work. I'm getting a lot of pain in my LEFT hip and right heel which I'm guessing is due to things being out of whack. Any ideas? Thanks.
