987826 tn?1249001138 My concern this time is a accident at my job. I work with the elderly in a assisted living facility. A elderly man fell and he bursted his elbow open and he leaned his bloody arm on my pants and unfortunatly the blood went through to my skin of my leg. After a couple minutes of getting him safe again i ran to the bathroom and took off the bloody pants and washed my leg with soap and water. I dont have any visible cuts or sores on my leg and none if any were open.
Avatar m tn The doctors at the local hospital placed a steel rod Inside the broken tibia and held it in place with 3 pins (after little research I think it is called an Intramedullary rod). For the first 3-4 years I didn't notice the the metal in my leg and lived a normal life each day, i.e. running, mild gymnastics training, caring for my elderly father(heavy lifting), and the life of a 16-20 year old. I am now almost 21.
Avatar m tn Over the last year it has almost become unbearable. It hurts the most when I lift my leg to take the next step. Then when I put my foot down, a sharp pain shoots down my leg. Everything I read online is mostly focused towards the elderly. Any ideas on what this could be? Thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn Anyone ever just feel constantly cold? Like your skin cant feel the warmth of your body. I do warm up in sunlight/heat etc but a breeze will feel chilling and clothing feels cool against my skin. This has been going on for 8 months and started right after I had a procedure to cure my Tachycardia. I have been to 2 internists, 2 neurologist and 2 cardiologists, had numerous tests and I have stumped them all. Most suggest Anxiety and want me to see a Psychologist.
Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
Cat My mom is 86 and suffers with leg cramps nearly every night. How can she get relief?
Avatar n tn Your posting brought me to tears. I am so upset that a doctor would dismiss such real symptoms. It is like saying you won't fix an elderly person's broken leg because all elderly people have brittle bones and are sore. Disgusting! Run to a new doctor fast. Early treatment is the key. Good luck!
Avatar m tn First, it is essential to know that what unusual symptoms you are facing after broken screw. It may be possible that broken screw can impinge nerve and lead to some neurological symptoms. Please consult to a neurologist for a detailed approach. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Depends on what happened. Is she broken? My Mom (age 80) fell, had a compression fracture of a vertebra, they fixed it and now she's picking up speed. She still uses a cane but she feels better and wants to do more.

Avatar f tn Hi ..right leg broken severly after 7 months no improvement in bone..
1542537 tn?1293207098 Hi, broken bones take a varying amount of time to heal, mostly depending upon the type of bone broken, the age of the person, and the way in which the bone is broken. Larger broken bones, for example the bones in the thigh, or both bones of leg would take a great deal longer to heal, usually six weeks to three months in the average healthy adult. Begin physical therapy as soon as is practical. That will help.
987826 tn?1249001138 Hello, I work with the elderly in a assisted living facility. My exposure was a resident bleeding arm bleed alot on my pants and the blood went through to my skin on my leg. Avatar n tn I have an elderly relative who is using numerous drugs to combat back and leg pain. Many of us believe she is overusing and needs to end her drug dependencies, but she is very weak from enduring many years of this problem. Could an epidural be applied, theoretically, to relieve physical pain symptoms over the course of a few weeks while weaning her off her medications? I want to know if this practice has ever been applied before I go suggesting it to a doctor.
Avatar f tn Has anyone broken their pelvis during pregnancy? I broke mine in a car accident years ago and never had any problems with my first baby. This baby dropped at 28wks and my dr says he is almost certain this baby has broken it again. I'm scheduled for csection next week, which is a huge relief with the pain, but he said it could take 6-12wks to heal. Was wondering what other peoples experience was? Did it get better after delivery?
Avatar m tn my son had nenmonia which led to ostomialitus and a broken leg. this was all eighteen months ago. he is now 3 and a half years old but still walks with a very stiff leg and can not walk up and down stairs with out putting his hand on his knee to use as a support or for leaverage. he has recovered his muscle lost which happened due to his broken leg. His pediatrition has no answer to this stiffness, walking issue...
Avatar f tn Has anyone broken their Tibia and fibia? I broke mine two years ago and am still having problems. I have a plate and eleven screws. I am thinking of having them taken out in the hopes that it will releive some of the discomfort. Any information from someone who has done this would be great.
Avatar m tn I would also try to straighten it out throughout the day by putting it in my left pant leg between my pants and my leg. Anyway... it still works fine now it just has a slight curvature to the left. My question is could there still be complications associated with the fracture or do you think I'm fine? Also do you think it's possible that my penis did not fully develop to it's full potential size due to the fracture?
Avatar n tn Tibia is the shin bone that bears most of the weight and the Fibula is the splint bone located on the outside of the lower leg. In the case of a closed fracture there may be swelling and discolouration due to the large amounts of blood that emanate from a fractured bone. The usual healing time for a mid-shaft Tibia and Fibula fracture treated with cast immobilisation is 12 to 16 weeks.
Avatar m tn No, but if a pet has all the symptoms, such as enlargement of all the lymph nodes in an elderly patient there is a chance that the patient may have lymphoma. A veterinarian would than do a fine needle aspirate (needle biopsy), or excisional biopsy, and bloodwork to be definitive.
