Avatar f tn Now its red you can visibly see my veins, and its very swollen, and the pain feels like i am walking with a broken leg, and the stiffness in the morning and all through the day is uncontrollable. i went to my Orthopedic doctor, but i had to see his nurse practitioner instead. I got X-rays, she came back with them and said "see me in three weeks to see if it gets worse". she thinks i might have something to do with edema.
Avatar m tn Elevated TSH indicates your wife is suffering from hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism can cause edema due to fluid retention. The presence of edema indicates a significant thyroid dysfunction. Please remember thyroid hormone is important for normal functioning of our body. Since your wife is hypothyroid it very important that she takes supplemental thyroid hormone as early as possible. Please initiate the treatment as early as possible. Take care!

487969 tn?1249313291 I have right neck swelling (carotidynia and thyroid) and left leg edema. Hmmm - I hate this mess as I am sure you do to. What I would give for a magic pill about now.
Avatar n tn However, a few months after the injury, i developed pitting edema in my right shin. My whole leg swells from the ankle to my hips, but the only part that pits is on top of my shin bone. It's worse when I wear anything with elastic on my legs or if I stand for a long time, but my right leg is always noticeably bigger than my left. I went to the doctor and was told it should go away after a few weeks, but that was two years ago and it is as bad as when it started. Any suggestions?

Hydrocodone taken every 4 hours the 500mg tab with Naproxen twice daily. Two weeks ago started having pain in upper right quadrant radiating through to back. Terrible headaches, severe pain through injured knee area with great upwelling of bruising continued through physical therapy. Waves of nausea.
Avatar n tn Hi There are many causes for edema in both legs. “Leg swelling generally occurs because of an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the tissues of the lower extremity. The medical term for leg swelling from excessive fluid in the tissues is edema. Persisting indentation of a swollen leg after pressure from a finger is known as pitting edema. Less common causes of leg swelling include diseases that cause thickness of the layers of skin, such as scleroderma and eosinophilic fasciitis.

Avatar f tn Hello, Common causes of ankle and feet edema(swelling)include ankle sprain or a fracture, gout (accumulation of uric acid crystals within the fluid of your ankle),ankle arthritis, infection (cellulitis or septic joint), problems with blood flow like DVT, obesity, and varicose veins.
Avatar f tn For the past couple months I have had a problem with pitting edema, mainly on my left left ankle and calf, but on my right leg a little as well. A couple weeks ago I finally visited a doctor regarding this issue. All she did was order blood work to check for diabetes and thyroid problems and all the labs came back good, no problems. She prescribed Lasix (20mg) to be taken once daily for 30 days. However, the problem still persist and some days are better than others.
Avatar m tn Leg swelling occurs because of an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the tissues in your lower extremities, which COULD be a sign of kidney failure. The medical term (as I understand it) for leg swelling, from excessive fluid in the tissues, is edema. I will say though, that there are many, many other causes of leg swelling besides kidney failure, so don't take my word for it (go seek professional advice).
Avatar n tn I have two questions first, to you suffer from edema or swellng in your legs at night, and may you have been laying against somthing that my have helped cause the indentation? I do know of people who do have edema in there lower legs and they will always keep their legs elevated on a footrest or box or whatever works.
Avatar m tn About 1 year after I was diagnosed with cirrhosis (back in 2008) I began to experience lower leg, ankle and foot swelling also known as edema or putting edema. To treat my edema my doctor prescribed Spironolactone. I also take 50 mg. If you are still experiencing edema and it is troublesome you may wish to discuss with your doctor about increasing your dose or maybe a stronger duretic. I am assuming your edema is due to cirrhosis as you are posting in the hep c community.
Avatar f tn The foot is also swollen as if I have a bad sprain, and there are a lot of broken blood vessels in leg and foot. It looks like Lymphadema, with possible Cellulitis in lower leg, as I have had a red 'boot mark' that comes and goes for at least three years, but the swelling seems to come on out of nowhere, encompassing the entire leg from foot to hip.The left leg is at least twice as big as the right leg. I often have heat in lower leg, strangely worse when I'm laying flat...
Avatar n tn He is having a great deal of groin pain, and difficulty walking on his leg. He also had foot edema. Is this a common side effect. He is very lethargic. The good part is the atrial fibrillation is gone.
Avatar n tn I got rid of the edema by taking modest supplements of potassium iodide. I also lost the weight of the water, of course.
Avatar n tn Palpitations and lightheadedness could be due to impairment of venous blood return to the heart, reflected in the leg and ankle edema. The return of blood is also compromised, for many people, by increased pressure within the chest with lifting weights, called Valsalva maneuver. The main clue as to what is going on probably resides in the leg edema, definitely abnormal in an otherwise healthy 36 year old man. The differential diagnosis of leg and ankle swelling is familiar to all doctors.
Avatar n tn You need to schedule an appointment. Edema is still present if you have a dent in your leg. (edema is water retention/swelling). Do NOT self treat and take another 'water pill' for this. Instead, you need to see your doctor. Who prescribed the water pills for you and what was the cause of the swelling initially? I would want to know the reason your legs are swelling so you can treat the condition rather than just the symptom.
Avatar m tn As far as symptoms, my toe feels stiff, looks a little swollen and darker red/purple, the top of my toe is tender when touching it hard enough, sensitive on bottom of toe when walking, standing, tingling, stinging, burning in toe, some kind of weird tense ache at the very top center of my foot before my leg starts, random aches and pains in leg, lots of twitching in foot and leg and foot feels sort of swollen when wearing shoes.
Avatar m tn I definitely think you should go ahead and schedule an exam with your primary care doctor. Your heart is not the only reason you can get leg edema. Kidney issues and cirrhosis of the liver are two other organs that can lead to edema of the lower extremities. Edema can actually be a side effect of blood pressure medication too believe it or not. I know congestive heart failure is often what comes to mind but there are definitely other possibilities you should look into with your doctor.
Avatar n tn com/hub/Complications-related-to-chronic-weeping-edema-of-lower-extremities This describes a more advanced condition and there are different types of edema.
