Avatar n tn I've had my left ankle broken on sept 29, it was a fibula frature with a tibia dislocation, was on splint for a week, had surgery on oct 7th,plate + screws + a very long screw to place my tibia on the right place, splint for another week, then my orthopedist put me on aircast Air Stirrup Universe since then. He told me to start physical therapy a week after surgery, but I waited until 2 weeks. Now my foot hurts on an area that has nothing to do with the fracture.
Avatar f tn I thought I only sprained my ankle two weeks ago, but above my ankle I keep getting a sharp pain like a foreign object is in there stabbing me every step I take. My leg is swollen about an inch larger than my other, but the swelling goes down overnight. Within a couple of hours of hobbling around the next day, even with it wrapped with the ace bandage, my leg swells again. I haven't seen a doctor.

1542537 tn?1293207098 why does my knee and ankle HURT SOO BAD? My ankle has been brusied and swollen with extremeley limited range of motion since the surgery 30 days ago. when will this go away? In my foot i have numbess in some areas and high sensitity in others. is this normal? also, the hosiptial gave me an EBI ORTHOPAK 2 to speed recovery. I googled this item for a whole day and really couldnt find much info on it other than it uses electical fields to stimulate bone growth. but i want to see test results.
Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
Avatar n tn Tibia is the shin bone that bears most of the weight and the Fibula is the splint bone located on the outside of the lower leg. In the case of a closed fracture there may be swelling and discolouration due to the large amounts of blood that emanate from a fractured bone. The usual healing time for a mid-shaft Tibia and Fibula fracture treated with cast immobilisation is 12 to 16 weeks.
Avatar m tn My mom had a fracture on her left leg. It was compound fracture with her leg broken above her ankle She had a steel rod put in her leg from the joint till the ankle. Got an xray done just of her left leg AP & Lateral view. The report is normal except for the 2 points mentioned as below: 1) Fixating devices are seen in situ. 2) Old fracture of distal tibia and fibula are noted. Not able to understand the above points and need to know if they are normal or is it cause of worry. Please help.

Then moved to right ankle element brace and cane. Have completed 2 sessions of PT. Have chronic pain i ... [More] n foot/ankle with every step I take. Both my foot/leg are still swollen and discolored. Taking pain meds daily. Recently returned to work (4 hours per day sitting).

Avatar n tn A couple of years ago I took a fall after stepping in a hole in the yard - I thought I had just badly bruised my ankle/leg because I was able to walk on it, although it was miserably painful to do so and was badly swollen and bruised. To make a long story short, after walking around for a week, i finally had it x-rayed and found out I had broke my tib/fib/ankle - spent six weeks in a cast after that, then PT and to this day I still have horrible rproblems with my ankle.
Avatar n tn The pain is usually centered around the original break area but it can occur just below the knee and down the leg to the ankle. Taking a couple of Ibuprorin usually relieves the pain and everything seems normal. Looking for answers as to what is causing this and what can be done to get rid of it. Thanks in advance for your response.
Avatar f tn I fractured the lower part of my fibula near the growth plate one week ago, and was in a Splint for 3 days.
Avatar f tn I immediately went to the doctor for x-rays. The x-rays did not show that the ankle was broken. When I left the doctor's office, I barely made it to the car, it hurt so bad and I absolutely couldn't walk on it. The doctor told me to get crutches, ice and elevate it for a few days and if it didn't get better, call him and he would refer me to an orthopedic doctor. Well, I've did the treatment and have been using crutches since the injury.
1417063 tn?1282107664 I recently had an injury where I didn't roll my ankle or think I did any other damage but when standing up afetr sliding on a slip n slide I had excruciating pain. Swelling started right away and now it is impossible to walk. It feels as though my foot wants to seperate between the middle and ring toe. X rays are negative but something is going on because the swelling after two days is still increasing. At this point my foot has ballooned outrageous.
Avatar n tn My pain has been very minimal these past few weeks but lately, my left ankle (the broken one) has felt numbness, tingling, and shooting pains. Is this normal? Is it because I crutch a lot, and often forget to elevate my ankle? I am just curious and want to make sure my healing process is going well. I am 21 years old and in excellent health.
Avatar m tn The result was a double compound fracture of my right leg. Both major bones were broken and exposed about an inch about the ankle joint. Fortunately for me, when I arrived at the hospital, one of the best orthopedic surgeons in Las Vegas was on call. Two years, two surgeries (about 8 hours worth), a bone graft and six months in a wheel chair I am walking much better than I could have expected. My question; I generally wear softer soled shoes ( walking tennies, etc.
5982276 tn?1377794537 They said that I had badly damaged the muscles around my ankle / lower leg and torn a ligament at the back of my ankle but all they gave me were crutches and an advice sheet. However they said you will likely need to buy a support bandage for the ankle, that you should relax during the 6 - 8 week healing period while doing some small exercises and that I should you the crutches if im going any sort of long distance or standing up for over 20 minutes...
Avatar n tn Have you tried palpitating his leg and flexing it slowly? Just like when you twist your ankle and need to stretch it out. There are 4 joints: hip, knee, hock, and ankle. Check each of them.
Avatar n tn In 2003 i broke my tib/fib, it was pretty sever, broken near my ankle. I was given the choice to do a cast or metal rod with pins through my leg for a speedy recovery in witch i choose. It was put through the lower part of my leg down to my ankle Big mistake! I can't even walk a mile without my leg killing me. Hurts from my Knee down to where there is a small bump (feels like bone) on top of my ankle. I need to know if the rod and pins can be removed?
Avatar f tn The swelling in my ankle is the same as the day my cast was taken off four years ago. Some areas of the ankle are very sensitive to touch, others less so, and even others I have nerve damage in and can't feel at all. I was told by my ortho that i would most definitely have arthritis; however, 21 seems a little young for that. I still have a plate and several screws left in the leg, but I only experience pain in that area when i apply pressure to the plate itself.
Avatar f tn Two weeks ago I had an accident, I feel off a Quattrocycle and the wheel ran over my ankle twisting my leg. Bruising came out straight away and a little swelling, I rested leg for a few days and continued walking with a little pain thereafter .
Avatar m tn I have realised how much this is all connected to the broken leg and weak ankle, but I am now lost as to what to do. I would like to not accept this as how I shall be for the rest of my life, but I am starting to wonder. I was thinking that an Osteopath could be good by getting my hips, lower back, buttock region back into alignment? (And hey I have tried the other obvious solutions!
Avatar n tn The fibula is basically the non-weight bearing bone of the leg while it is the tibia that does the major weight bearing part (the two bones of the lower leg). The concern in your case is the fracture being near to the ankle joint and the associated injury to the deltoid ligament. The sole determinant of the level of mobility and the speed of taking things would be the recovery post 6 weeks and how well you do in the following weeks post cast-removal.
