boniva

Avatar m tn Her primary issue is the loss of bone in her jaw, leaving some teeth loose. But her bone density tests (I think) are fine. One physican gave her Synthroid, another told her to stop. One perscribed Boniva, another said no, cause she is a young lady. Here are her labs. Any comments? Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis and have noticed that recently I have a lot of pain in my teeth and jaw. This has prompted me to wonder if osteoporosis affects the teeth in general as they are inbedded in bone? And how so?
Avatar f tn I have been on Boniva for bone helath for about two years. I heard yesterday that Boniva would cause eye disorders called uveitis and sleraderma? Does this bone medicine cause eye problems? I have an eye disorder called Fuchs cornea dystrophy and have recently had cataract surgery in both eyes ;however one eye keeps feeling irritated.
Avatar f tn I was told that it would worsen after the chemo (carbo/taxoterre), and it did. Not terribly, but a decrease in bone mass just that same. I started on Boniva and my cholesterol shot up about 120 points. I just stopped that recently and my numbers dropped by 80 points. Seems there are downsides for everything. Now taking Viactiv with vitamins D & K, 3 chews a day. Will have another bone density next April. I also am fairly physically active and hope that will help.
Avatar n tn dental work - there are blackbox warnings about osteonecrosis of the jaw (bone death) The mother of a woman that I worked with took Fosamax for a few months and her teeth began to loosen - an oral surgeon had to pull teeth from a quadrant of her mouth and add some sort of bone replacement. The oral surgeon who did my root canal 2 years ago told me (reluctantly) agreed that the bone drugs are becoming controversial.
Avatar n tn Adding a moderate amount of calcium, (around 500 to 600 mg of calcium citrate) a day improves bone mineralization. A number of other nutrients also improve bone mineralization, including vitamin K, magnesium, zinc, green tea, and curcumin. Exercise plays a major role as well, especially resistance exercises. It is critical to avoid high protein diets, since proteins increase acid levels in the body, and this demineralizes the bones (causing osteoporosis). Exercise drives calcium into the bone.
Avatar n tn t until April, so there would be enough of a space to be able to start Boniva is the bone doctor thought it was a doable plan. I don't want to be on biophosphates for a long chunk of time because of the side effects long term with them. The hormone therapy is not something that I will even entertain. I have had a hysterectomy and have no ovaries ever since age 37. I was on hormones until age 50.
Avatar f tn The technician looked at my med list and asked if I am taking Boniva and Synthroid. I answered yes. I take other meds other than those two she mentioned. I told her that I understood why she asked about the Boniva but I didn't understand why she asked about Synthroid. She told me that thyroid meds take from the bones and causes osteoporosis. WHAT??? How come no doctor ever told me?
Avatar n tn in order to treat osteo you need to be on fosmax/ boniva or like substances and have hrt. your doctor you should sue.... because he perscribed it while having the knowledge of your bone health knowing it decreases the amount of calcium in your bones.
Avatar f tn Is boniva a possible cause of papilloma virus on the eyelid going into the conjunctiva? This discussion is related to uveitis of the eye caused by Boniva.
Avatar f tn I noted that for the last several months whenever I took Boniva I had significant swelling under both eyes. Thus, when this past Sunday, 5/23 I developed the papilloma on my left lower eyelid (center) which at first seemed to have a point on top & next day became more elongated I thought Boniva. I would appreciate any feedback as to cause & what possible treatment. It, not very large & seems to be same size this first week.
294425 tn?1288528395 The biggest issue with these meds is you are at risk of dental problem called osteonecrosis of the jaw. It means the jaw bone dies and often starts when you have a dental treatment like an extraction. so you need to be on top of dental things, I go every three months for a cleaning. I think you are also at greater risk from a certain type of broken hip. I took the med for 2 years, which is the sort of benchmark for myeloma treatment.
Avatar m tn I have recently found what feels like a lump on the back lower curve of my jaw bone. It doesnt move, is really hard, and is maybe pea sized. It actually feels like its part of the bone. I am not sure if its just a misformation and has been there all of my life, or is something new. I found it three days ago, and I don't think it has grown at all. I have had pain in that side of my jaw, but its sort of the same pain I have had in it for the last ten years or so.
212161 tn?1599427282 does anyone take Boniva and how bad were the side effects
Avatar n tn They are given generally prescribed orally and include Fosamax, Actonel and Boniva. They can cause some severe stomach distress as they did for my father. When this happens there are injectable forms of bisphosphonates. Ibandronate (Boniva injection) is injected into your vein once every three months, and zoledronic acid (Reclast) is injected once a year. If approved by your physician these treatments do not cause stomach distress and you do not have to remember to take a tablet.
Avatar n tn She says my jaw bone loss is extensive at this point. If I am getting a partial plate that will cover this area, is the graft really necessary? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had bone graft last Friday taken from my bottom left jaw and the bone was then put into my top gum i am in the early stages of dental implants. They are my front two teeth. All is fine but i still cannot open my mouth properly is this normal..
Avatar f tn I just have my last two wisdom teeth pulled last week thinking this was an infection of the wisdom teeth. BAD MOVE on my part. However, the oral surgeon said I had significant bone loss in the jaw. I won't tell you what I mumbled when he said that but I think he knew what I said. I live in Philadelphia and now know that I need to go to the Hospital of the University of Penn Dental School for help. I have been having strange Autoimmune Issues for years as well.
Avatar n tn Now my doctor says I need to have my uterus and ovaries removed. I should also mention that at my routine visit a bone density scan was done and I was found to be moderately osteopenic and just started monthly Boniva. I'm frightened. Should any further diagnostic studies be performed or does this seem like a sound plan? Should I see a gyn oncologist? Thank you for your advice.
Avatar f tn Because of my GERD, my doctor prescribed an IV infusion of Reclast. Unfortunately, I suffered some of the side effects, fever, and severe bone pain to the point of not being able to take in a full breath. My doctor was so concerned he put me on a steroid dose pack to reduce the reaction. My body doesn't seem very tolerant of any drugs, couldn't take anything other than extra strength Tylenol for a foot surgery. I will have to figure out something else with an endocronologist?
Avatar n tn My father just had his wisdom tooth removed. The root had grown around his jaw bone so they had to surgically remove it. now he has a foul smell and the dentist says the bone is exposed. I'm hoping he doesn't get a bone infection? could this happen, and how will they fix that? This discussion is related to abcesses and jaw bone infection.
717272 tn?1277590780 of TX) also cause it. Anybody else happen across bone loss after they finished TX? Anyone happen to have a bone density scan before and after TX to compare? My question is "Is it reversible after the meds all finally get out of your system"?
Avatar n tn I have a some pain underneath my jaw bone. I thought it was something caught between my teeth origanally but, now it seems to be more located underneath my jaw bone. I can push up there with my index finger and it is really painfull. Any thoughts on this??
Avatar n tn t feel an implant is a good idea for me until I know the jaw bone strengthens. My surgeon reported that the graft will strengthen if it is anchored by a implant in 2-6 months. My thoughts were the graft would be a benefit to me regardless of whether I get an implant. Will the graft strengthen over a year and does an implant need to anchor it? Am I a good candidate for an implant/ I'd like to keep my teeth and the thought of a bridge is unappealing?
Avatar f tn My PA who ordered my bone DEXA scan (since I have osteopenia), had ordered it because it had been 2 yrs since my last one. I had it done on Tues. and they called me today saying that my bone density had worsened and now I'm considered advanced osteopenia 'right before osteoporosis'. They want me to come in to talk to her about further treatment, more aggressive treatment'. My husband thinks that since I just had the 3 mon.
