If she has ever taken Boniva, she should worry. Google Osteonecrosis of the jaw, many drugs like Fosomax have bad side effects. A friend lost several teeth and parts of her jaw due to this. Bisphosphonates like Boniva have been associated rarely with uveitis. You would experience ocular pain, blurred vision, light sensitivity, loss of vision and possibly glaucoma if you had uveitis. Your ophthalmologist would be able to tell you right away if you had any uveitis and the Boniva could be discontinued if that were the case.

I noted that for the last several months whenever I took Boniva I had significant swelling under both eyes. Thus, when this past Sunday, 5/23 I developed the papilloma on my left lower eyelid (center) which at first seemed to have a point on top & next day became more elongated I thought Boniva. I would appreciate any feedback as to cause & what possible treatment. It, not very large & seems to be same size this first week.
extremely swollen right leg especially around knee joint - could not even bend knee, terrible hip pain and two days later a tooth abscess. What are the chances I can tolerate Boniva once a month? My Endocrinologist wants me to try it.
She does not have any cramping, but they are watery. This all started when she began to take Boniva several months ago. She stopped taking it 2 months ago. I have suggested that it has not all left her system yet and this may take some time. She has not changed her diet or any meds. She is a creature of habit and eats and does the same things every day. ve done 4 injections over the past 2 years. Just a little bit of bone pain for the first 2 wks after the injection then, it goes away. That said, unfortunately, for me, my DEXA did not improve and my osteoporosis in my spine (the T-score) did not get better. The technician looked at my med list and asked if I am taking Boniva and Synthroid. I answered yes. I take other meds other than those two she mentioned. I told her that I understood why she asked about the Boniva but I didn't understand why she asked about Synthroid. She told me that thyroid meds take from the bones and causes osteoporosis. WHAT??? I recommend checking out the website "Save Our Bones". It is an alternative to using bisphosphonates (Fosamax, Boniva, Actonel, et al) These drugs interrupt the remodeling of bones by adding a "sheath" or layer of hardening to the outside of the bones in an effort to prevent bone "loss". Bones remodel (replace) naturally every few years.
One of the problems with bones is our diets are often highly acidic by processed foods.
I developed osteoporosis (only 52) and my gyno-onc had me see an endocrinologist. I now take Boniva- once monthly plus a mult-vit, calcium, and vit-D twice a day. My last scan showed improvement.
He wanted me to go on hormone replacement but my gyno-onc would not hear of it.
Once the test results are normal all the symptoms went away except the back and leg pain. Went to a back dr, had x-rays and found out that I have degenerative disc disease. In the last 13 months I have lost my father (87 yrs old), my mother (85 yrs) and a very dear friend that I grew up with. I have a very stressful job 45-55 hrs a week. In November of last yr I noticed the symptoms again and started the process again. went from 2.5 on the thyroid test to over 9.
in order to treat osteo you need to be on fosmax/ boniva or like substances and have hrt. your doctor you should sue.... because he perscribed it while having the knowledge of your bone health knowing it decreases the amount of calcium in your bones.
I have recently been going through all the same sort of symptoms as you have listed, including the jaw pain. I think it is hormone related as I have heard of other people going through it too. I am currently getting tested and may be referred to an endocrinologist shortly to find out if my symptoms are due to early menopause. So if I find out anymore about it, I will let you know.

Regarding the jaw pain; clenching jaw muscles can affect your neck and jaw, it is actually a common symptom for many people who suffer from anxiety. If it is extreme, you can ask your dentist for a mouth guard, which can help reduce the pain and also save your teeth from any future damage ( use it at night while you sleep, or if you nap anytime)...
No jaw pain but now you mention it I've got slightly sensitive teeth. Hope your jaw ache passes quickly.
I have had pain in the left joint of my jaw for years now. As far as I can remember I have not been knocked in that area. The area of pain can stretch from the lower jaw area right up to my ear and can even give me neck pain. It causes pain when I open my mouth wide and always feels like the bones are 'clicking' and 'clunking' out of place. I have had phisio on the joint but that is only a stretch of the muscle and the pan is always present.
s know if you have ever had braces before, but if so, or if you grind your teeth, there is a very good chance you might have TMJ. It causes severe jaw pain because the jaw is not aligning correctly. If it is, you generally can not open your mouth as far due to tightening or sometimes you can even feel or hear it pop.
My oral surgeon suggested some exercises I could do and it did help a little. The instant headache pain i had went away because the regular jaw joint pain I was having suddenly didn't reach my right eye . I have had no improvement since and my o/s wants me to start therapy. Will this help ? Starting to think there will be no end to this , each meal is painful , getting really sick of this.
