Is blood glucose reading of 139 ok two hours after eating? I've just begun self-testing and I've had three readings of 88 (afternoon, no food), 89 (morning before eating or drinking), and 139 (two hours after eating). My mother's family has Type I diabetes (8 out of 11 total) and my father developed Type II before he died. I'm concerned because I have very high "highs" and very low "lows" complete with blurred vision, shaking, anxiety, and constant urination.
I am controlling my diabetes now for two months without medication. I set up an excel document and print it off , you can fit two months worth of info on one sheet, it's so easy to show the doctor trends, I include how many calories I've eaten per meal. It's really helped me. I've lost 30 llbs in two months and have stayed off of medication.

What does this mean? I can easily understand cholestrol and blood pressure and other variables but blood glucose seems wacky as there are a variety of techniques to measure it and to determine the status. How is it that my BG is normal after I eat but a little outside normal when measure after fasting? Moreover, I have written before as well that my lifestyle is too good to expose me to higher BG numbers. I am really disturbed.
my husband was 2yrs post liver transplant, that is the one reason why he is also now suffering from monitor blood sugar problem. my question now is about fluctition of his blood glucose, we have a kit monitoring it before and after meal, but there was time when we check it is high then after just a minute it drop down, we are really worried why is this happening? hoping that anyone could help!

As Sally mentioned, it is best to monitor your blood glucose with a home test meter.This is the only way to know, besides being tested at the doctors office, your glucose levels. You can Google "when to test blood glucose" for recommendations, which is different than the above link.
You may wish to get a home blood sugar meter and monitor after carby meals from time to time to be sure your numbers are not too high / rising over time. pre and post eating numbers are ideally similar if one is non-diabetic. Numbers consistently higher than 125 would be cause for further investigation / and changing diet / consideration of meds.

I monitor my blood sugar levels at home with a glucose monitor and know they are fine. I have refused their glucola testing and signed a statement saying I understand I am putting myself and my baby at risk..and added to their form that I monitor my own at home and will provide those results to the office.
If you find you have a high sugar level in the normal range or low high blood sugar, check into chromium picolinate and/or cinnamon supplementation.
To sum up, I had never had a fasting blood glucose, have diabetes in my family, so decided to get a home monitor, see where I stood (given I am still in my 20's but not in good shape - getting there, exercising now, but wanted a baseline). So I hadn't been getting goog night sleep due to work, but checked it a few times in a week (in morning, after a 10-14 hour fast fort those morning tests) and generally got 103, 104 for most. Mornings.
The home tests are quite accurate, they look for glucose within the urine and I would guess they are 99% accurate. Generally though we watch for clinical symptoms, specifically drinking and urinating more. By the time the glucose overrides the kidneys filtration system and shows up in the urine, your dog would be showing signs. More importantly, speak with your vet about weight loss strategies. Like in people, diabetes in pets can usuallybe prevented through maintaining a proper weight.

I failed both glucose test and even with that they will just monitor me. I am now having weekly ultrasound versus two weeks to monitor fluid. I will monitor my sugar at home as well and unless anything extremely concerning then I will see an endocrinologist. Until then just monitor what you eat. Unless the fluid increases they don't seem to concerned. Good luck.
t matching a lot of the time, eg our home monitor was reading 2.9 the continuous monitor was reading 7.1). i was wondering if the pus at the canulla site would have affected the results from the continuous monitor and if it really was our home monitor that was wrong and not the continuous monitor? since the results her insulin carb ratio has been changed as has her levemir dose and i feel we have to start again from scratch. please help!
In our hospital, I manage my diabetic patients by having the owner monitor the urine glucose at home, stay in email contact in the regulating phase, a schedule of blood glucose and fructosamine tests, and monitoring clinical signs (water intake and urinating frequency).
The other two doctors in our practice each do it differently from me and from each other. One of our doctors lives by the at home monitoring.
That is what was SPECIFICALLY written on my lab orders. (Insulin) I monitor my blood glucose at home daily, why would they make me come in and get blood drawn for something I do at home anyways? I just dont get your answer. I am asking for an A1c test so maybe I might get some true results. Any good advice will help because all this has me so confused.
He/she sounds like a quack. It is important to monitor your blood sugar (glucose) on a regular basis to understand how well you are controlling your diabetes. Your above 300 mg/dl readings are high and getting real close to a dangerous level where diabetes complications start to set in. half year post liver transplant, my question now is about his bood sugar, we are trying to monitor it , we have the kit and test sugar before and after meal, but there was time that in just a minute sugar rises and and sometimes went very low. is this normal for or the kit have a problem?
