Avatar m tn I got shingles in my right eye in Feb., recently I was prescribed valcyclovir and pred forte drops. I am in the donut hole on my insurance and the cost is prohibitive. Is acyclovir 800 as effective as valcyclovir hcl or as costly?
Avatar f tn Optivar (Azelastine) is an antihistamine, a fairly potent one, but you might want to ask your eye doctor about possibly using a corticosteroid eye drop to quell the severe allergic reaction. Also, you might want to consider the use of wrap-around or sealed glasses to reduce the amount of airborne allergen reaching your eyes. Itching is one thing – pain is another especially bad eye pain. Probably just that awful feeling of gravel in the eyes.
Avatar n tn I had to take HCL when the eye surgery required antibiotics which allowed the fungus to take over again. It was only eye drops antibiotics... but the fungus bloomed there, then to my ears.. then all the way down my digestive track (as evidenced by sticky poop... tmi? )... And I started getting reflux again. After a year of killing of fungus, no reflux and do not need HCL any more. John said anti-acids and acid blockers push the chemical equation the wrong way.
Avatar m tn Went to doctor to get steroid shot they usually work but nothing. Doctor also prescribed Azelastine took awhile to pick it up. There was mix up with where it was sent. Was I glad when I did pick it up... HELL YEAH! Not only did it help with allergies but that hellish itch was gone totally. Just like that UNBELIEVABLE! Don't know why. Can't find any info that Azelastine would help with that problem. BUT IT DID! there is no doubt in my mind. Its not a coincidence.

Avatar m tn I have been using over the counter eye drops (namely, Opcon A) daily for a few years in order to combat my red eyes. With constant use, I have noticed that they do not work nearly as well anymore, and that my eyes are redder than ever. I read into the subject and have learned that with prolonged use, your eye becomes more dependent on the drops and does in fact become redder. Every morning I wake up with eyes that are extremely bloodshot red and uncomfortable.
