Hello,Im a male taking Avodart for hair loss but im worried,by what the information is regarding pregnancy.
My question is can i still try to conceive while im taking avodart.
How will this medication effect my sperm count and also will my sperm have this medicine in them.
Will it cause a birth defect if I should get my girlfriend pregnant.
Also if we try for a child how long will it take for the tablets to be out of my stysem
Any help would be very much appriecated..
I take Avodart (Dutasteride) 0.5 mg tabs twice a week for the past 6 months. I lowered the dose when I developed gynecomastia (breast tissue). Avodart has a long half life. Will it still work to help my benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)? I have been taking Avodart for 5 years and it has been very helpful.
ve been hypo for almost two years and never lost a hair. Stress can cause hair loss as well as vitamin defiecency. Please try not to worry. We all have very different symptoms. I will say that my outer eyebrows are gone but have been gone for years. My sister said when her levels got better her eyebrows grew back. This is a process however don't focus on any issues that might take place. There is something called mind body connection.
I have tremendous respect for him, and he says that there is no evidence of any kind of pathology whatsoever, except for BPH (prostate is now at approximately 30 g after Avodart therapy for nearly three years). He attributes this burning sensation to aging and a possible symptom of pelvic inflammatory disease, however, it’s been relentless. I'm wondering if I could be in the beginning stages of prostate cancer. After adjusting for Avodart, PSA is well below the normal level of 3.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS HAPPENING, AND SHOULD I STAY OFF THE MEDS FOR NOW??? I HAVE AN UNDERACTIVE THYROID..

I am hoping someone will have some answers for me. I am not sure what I should do about this thyroid hair loss I am having. I read that adding t3 helps with hair loss? I know you can not believe everything you read. Right? I did get my new tests back from the doctor today and now I am considered hyperthyroid instead of hypothyroid. I just can not seem to get the right dosage needed to fix me. Help.
I take 200mcg so Sythroid but I havent lost any hair..BUT...I did read and was told that it could happen. I was also told if you do lose some it usually tapers off after awhile.
It took me almost a year to find the correct dosage and 15 yrs later, still having dosage adjustments (just changed dosage again last week).
Take it easy after surgery and get plenty of rest and make sure you start eating healthy, you will gain some weight, but it will come off (at least it did for me), once your dosage is where it should be.

It would be very helpful if we could have a look at your thyroid related test results from the time you were feeling good, and also from the time when you dosage was reduced. You also need to know your test results from Aug. It is a good idea to always get a copy of blood test results and write on there how you were feeling at the time, and your med and supplement dosages. Those reports are a very useful history for future reference.
I would agree that the hair loss is not a side effect but inadequate levels of the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T4 and Free T3, along with likely low levels of ferritin, which is a form of iron.
It appears that your doctor tested for Free T4, but Total T3. Total T3 is not very useful compared to Free T3. Scientific studies have shown that hypo symptoms correlate best with Free T3, and not Free T4 or TSH.
I'm 68 years old and have had Cataracts for over 2 years. I've been taking Avodart for over a year. Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? I've never taken Flomax and have heard the warnings from the commercial and read about Flomax. I'm concerned about any complications.
I'm also pretty active. Can I still swim after surgery and what are the chances of the lens shifting or coming loose?
When I was going through it I just wanted to hear someone say that it stopped for them. I can tell you that the hair loss finally stopped for me after at most 4 months. I even tried a shampoo called Nioxin, but I don' t think that had any effect at all. My only suggestion would be to get ferratin (which is iron stores) checked.

We have to have our prostate shrunk and medication that does it can also affect our penis. Have you had much shrinkage? Shrinkage can happen for different reasons. Even getting older an cause it, smoking, taking various medications (not just avodart), gaining weight, etc. Do you find you also have erectile dysfunction? Avodart, unfortunately, is associated with these side effects. It's unclear though how long they will last. What does your doctor say? What prompted starting the med?
80mg is a high dosage of beta blocker, and the max recommended for atenolol in 100mg. Maybe you could ask your gp to try a more powerful reacting beta blocker, one which requires much less dosage with the same effect. Bisoprolol fumrate is a powerful beta blocker and most people take 1.25mg - 20mg.
You have to start on a low dose and gradually increase it over a few weeks until you find the right level. If you suddenly jump in at 20mg, your heart could start to pump too slowly.
Hi everyone. I'm scheduled for PT on 4-14-10 (nodule susp for pap) and have read lots of frightening stories about
hair loss due to thyroid conditions and some meds used to treat hypo patients. I am currently on 50mcg levothyroxine. I started it 1-20-10 and have so far had not had any extra shedding/thinning. My questions are - if I was going to have hair thinning as a side effect of the levo, would it have most likely already started? Or is it noticed more with higher doses?
m wondering if I could be in the beginning stages of prostate cancer (after adjusting for Avodart my PSA is well below the normal level of 3), or is it possible that I have a sexually transmitted infection, such as HSV-2, or is it possible that an undetected chlamydial infection could be causing this burning. I've never had any sort of "outbreaks.
Thank you for your comments they are very appreciated and will ask for another blood draw with Free T3 and ask to increase dosage as well. I feel good except that I am tired and my hair loss, perhaps due to my healthy lifestyle which I think plays a huge role...diet and exercise. That helps but correct med dosage is essential and will work with my Dr.
