Avatar m tn I take Avodart (Dutasteride) 0.5 mg tabs twice a week for the past 6 months. I lowered the dose when I developed gynecomastia (breast tissue). Avodart has a long half life. Will it still work to help my benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)? I have been taking Avodart for 5 years and it has been very helpful.
Avatar f tn what would be the right dose of biotin and evening primrose oil for thinning hair in hypothyroid person? Can both biotin and evening primrose oil be taken ?
Avatar n tn ve been hypo for almost two years and never lost a hair. Stress can cause hair loss as well as vitamin defiecency. Please try not to worry. We all have very different symptoms. I will say that my outer eyebrows are gone but have been gone for years. My sister said when her levels got better her eyebrows grew back. This is a process however don't focus on any issues that might take place. There is something called mind body connection.
Avatar n tn he tried avodart for 1 year but not worked good for him thats why he stop and try another drug name proscar...
Avatar n tn neoral definitely is associated with this type of hair growth. the hair loss is probably related to telogen effluvium, which can occur this time post-transplantation.
Avatar m tn What is normal time to stay Avodart ? The doc give enough for 3 weeks but I would think I would need to stay on for longer than that. I have had no side effects as I know of and I believe it has helped. How long has others stayed on this ? Thanks for any help.
Avatar f tn 80mg is a high dosage of beta blocker, and the max recommended for atenolol in 100mg. Maybe you could ask your gp to try a more powerful reacting beta blocker, one which requires much less dosage with the same effect. Bisoprolol fumrate is a powerful beta blocker and most people take 1.25mg - 20mg. You have to start on a low dose and gradually increase it over a few weeks until you find the right level. If you suddenly jump in at 20mg, your heart could start to pump too slowly.
Avatar m tn I'm 68 years old and have had Cataracts for over 2 years. I've been taking Avodart for over a year. Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? I've never taken Flomax and have heard the warnings from the commercial and read about Flomax. I'm concerned about any complications. I'm also pretty active. Can I still swim after surgery and what are the chances of the lens shifting or coming loose?
Avatar f tn We have to have our prostate shrunk and medication that does it can also affect our penis. Have you had much shrinkage? Shrinkage can happen for different reasons. Even getting older an cause it, smoking, taking various medications (not just avodart), gaining weight, etc. Do you find you also have erectile dysfunction? Avodart, unfortunately, is associated with these side effects. It's unclear though how long they will last. What does your doctor say? What prompted starting the med?
Avatar n tn Getting 10-20 hairs every time you run your fingers through it is a pretty good indication of telogen effluvium. In general, people with ordinary male-pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) do not see increased hair fall of this type. If you had some event 3-4 months ago that induced a "shock" to your health (high fever, surgery, etc.), that would provide further circumstantial evidence that you do indeed have telogen effluvium.
Avatar m tn I have tremendous respect for him, and he says that there is no evidence of any kind of pathology whatsoever, except for BPH (prostate is now at approximately 30 g after Avodart therapy for nearly three years). He attributes this burning sensation to aging and a possible symptom of pelvic inflammatory disease, however, it’s been relentless. I'm wondering if I could be in the beginning stages of prostate cancer. After adjusting for Avodart, PSA is well below the normal level of 3.
Avatar f tn Hypothyroidism and low ferritin are two causes for hair loss. So the increase in your med dosages is directionally correct, since your Free T3 is too low in the range. Are you taking an iron supplement? If not, then you should get a full iron test panel: serum iron, TIBC, and % saturation, to help identify the cause for the high ferritin. Hypo patients are also frequently deficient in Vitamin D and B12. If not tested for those you should do so and then supplement as needed to optimize.
Avatar m tn I say this because there are certain medications meant for men, like Avodart for enlarged prostate, that women are told not to even handle. They say so on the commercials for this medication. If women are told not to even handle Avodart, which would mean that it can be absorbed through the skin, I would think you may be right about the possibility of you absorbing the hormones from the IUD. But, I suspect some doctor may refute this, although I don't know why.
Avatar n tn I am a 35 yr old woman. I have been losing hair since 10 years. Hypothyroid was detected 5 years ago & I have been since been on thyronorm daily. My thyroid levels are generally stable. My hair line is receding rapidly, with hair thinning all over the scalp as a result of which my scalp is showing especially when I oil it or when my hair is wet. I have been taking vitamins, and trying all sorts of natural remedies, but nothing has worked. My scalp also feels itchy most of the time.
Avatar n tn All I know is I was feeling horrible tired all the TIME, Very cold, puffy eyes, VERY BAD ANXIETY is this normal? as well as loss of hair, yellowish skin, brittle ugly nails. The doctor put me on synthroid .5mg, it has been 5 days. I just wondered how long it will take b/f I start feeling better? I also wanted to say I'm very happy to know there is a place I can go to and know I'm not alone. This is possibly the worst thing I have ever gone through. I also suffer from I.B.
Avatar m tn Hi Dave, thanks for answering. I am not really sure if this is herpes. My urologist shattered most of my hopes with that "85% sure it's herpes" comment. He's a top specialist in his field and he has been right about other stuff before. He said that I might have caught HSV long time ago and this is a recurrence, but previous tests in 2015 and now 2016 say I I didn't have antibodies before. Have you had problems like this with these virus of hell?
Avatar f tn There are a couple of things that are common causes for hair loss. One is being hypothyroid and the other is low ferritin, which is a protein that stores and releases iron as needed. After having a thyroidectomy 100 mcg of Euthyrox doesn't seem like an adequate replacement amount. Please post your thyroid related test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report so that we can better assess your status.

Avatar f tn In some cases, there is a need to treat the underlying cause for resolution of the hair loss. Take care always.
Avatar f tn I am most concerned with my hair loss and weight gain. Oh, this is terrible, I never thought I would have to deal with such a thing on my own especially. Thank you so much for responding as I feel like no one has the slightest clue what I am going through.
Avatar m tn I am suffering from BPH for the last 4 years and I am taking DUTASTERIDE (AVODART) and Alfuzosin . Unfortunately , these meds do not help much since few months ago. I also about a new procedure named: gat-goren (GG), that sounds as non-pervasive. Did anyone hear about the GG procedure and can share experience or knowledge about that ?
