avodart

Avatar n tn Hello,Im a male taking Avodart for hair loss but im worried,by what the information is regarding pregnancy. My question is can i still try to conceive while im taking avodart. How will this medication effect my sperm count and also will my sperm have this medicine in them. Will it cause a birth defect if I should get my girlfriend pregnant. Also if we try for a child how long will it take for the tablets to be out of my stysem Any help would be very much appriecated..
Avatar m tn When I developed gynecomastia (which is minor and I ignore) I lowered the dose of AVODART to one twice a week which is 8/month (from 15/month). AVODART has a long half life. Will 8/month still work? I wrote to GLaxo who make Avodart and they said what you said "ask your physician". My physician is very busy and I don't want to waste his time. My next appointment is in June and I will ask at that time if I don't have an answer by then.
Avatar m tn I honestly don't know, but I suspect you're possibly right. I say this because there are certain medications meant for men, like Avodart for enlarged prostate, that women are told not to even handle. They say so on the commercials for this medication. If women are told not to even handle Avodart, which would mean that it can be absorbed through the skin, I would think you may be right about the possibility of you absorbing the hormones from the IUD.
Avatar n tn Please help me understand! I have just been diagnosed with hypo and am taking levo. 42 yr old woman. I have all the classic symptoms like insomnia, weight gain, intolerance to cold, extremely sore breasts amongst several others. However the one I fear the most is the hair loss!! At this point I haven't noticed any loss, just a dryer texture and a bit of lack luster. I have searched everywhere but cannot find an answer to my question! Does EVERYONE who is hypo lose hair???
Avatar m tn I am a 61-year-old, white male. In the past, I had been VERY heterosexually active. I’m not gay. I am now in an exclusive, monogamous relationship and have been for quite some time. Three years ago, I was diagnosed with BPH, and prescribed a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. Urine stream improved. Frequency abated. I asked my urologist to consider putting me on the standard dosage of Depo Testosterone, strictly as an exogenous source of free testosterone, due to malaise, fatigue, etc.
Avatar n tn Propose that your partner try Avodart. I think it really helps with prostate enlargement. That is what the television commercials say anyhow. Unfortunately it also can cause a large reduction in semen production. AND women wanting to become pregnant should NEVER touch the pill as it can cause birth defects if they are exposed at all to it. You can Google Avodart read all of this yourself from a variety of sites, including Avodart's manufacturer.
Avatar n tn You have been repeatedly reassured about HIV, hair loss, and HIV testing on both this and the HIV community forum. Mouth sores can sometimes occur in advanced AIDS but not as a symptom of early HIV ifnection. Feel free to get tested as often as you like. But the primary health need reflected in this and your other posts seems to be emotional.
Avatar m tn What is normal time to stay Avodart ? The doc give enough for 3 weeks but I would think I would need to stay on for longer than that. I have had no side effects as I know of and I believe it has helped. How long has others stayed on this ? Thanks for any help.
Avatar n tn From that time there has been drastic hair fall (clumps of hair) on a daily basis. Presently I am on Eltroxin (thyroid drug 100 mcg) and CCM (calcium supplement one daily). I had zinc tablets to treat hair fall but in vain. Please advise.
Avatar m tn I'm 68 years old and have had Cataracts for over 2 years. I've been taking Avodart for over a year. Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? I've never taken Flomax and have heard the warnings from the commercial and read about Flomax. I'm concerned about any complications. I'm also pretty active. Can I still swim after surgery and what are the chances of the lens shifting or coming loose?
Avatar f tn Even getting older an cause it, smoking, taking various medications (not just avodart), gaining weight, etc. Do you find you also have erectile dysfunction? Avodart, unfortunately, is associated with these side effects. It's unclear though how long they will last. What does your doctor say? What prompted starting the med? Your psa looks pretty good.
1464587 tn?1307491605 What meds are you on? Also, someone commented here recently (ewford?) about some types of infections that sometimes accompany Lyme (mycoplasma?) can cause termporary hair loss. You might try to search this forum for 'hair loss' if no one pops up with an answer. Sorry not to be more helpful.
1205205 tn?1272394483 The PA who was instructing me on the self injections warned me that some patients shave their hair off completely because of the hair loss. My question is... for those of you that have experienced the hair loss- when does it stop? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar m tn I actually posted about this a month or so ago. I have hair loss that really started post Tx. My hair didn't grow hardly at all during Tx, than about 6 weeks post Tx it really started falling out, probably lost 50%. Everyone says it should grow back fine after 6 months post Tx. I figure it is the least of my worries. Looking for my SVR12 in 3 weeks. Hang in there.
Avatar m tn Hi doctor, I have been experiencing hair loss for about 7 years now. It's getting to the point where I will have to shave it all off soon. It's quite noticeable. I have no hair loss in my family at all. None on my mum or dads side. I'm the only one. I have however suffered from bad anxiety (stress) for quite some years now and wondering if this would be the main cause? Is stress making my hair fall out? I'm quite healthy and all my most recent blood tests are all fine.
1123555 tn?1259561262 Hello I am going on my 12th week of treatment. I've had one migraine and my head hurts often as well. I've never in my life had a migraine until I started treatment. As Marcia mentioned...water, water, water! My doctor tells me to drink AT LEAST one gallon of water PER DAY. I do notice that on days when I don't drink the gallon that I feel worse...nausea and head aches. I take naproxem sodium for pain killers and then I rest. No noise and no bright lights.
495035 tn?1221753092 Ok forum I have a strange question for you, but have any of you had hair loss? arms ,legs head toes anywhere?
Avatar n tn But, every few years my thyroid just burns out, and I go hypo. When I do I experience extreme hair loss and brittle nails. For me, the animal based thyroid substitutes work much better when I'm in a hypo phase. Additionally, sometimes when I am not hypo, the medication I take for my Graves' just knocks down my T4/T3 levels so low that once again I start to lose a lot of hair.
Avatar m tn My 5yr old golden retriever has all of a sudden developed hair loss and redness around his mouth. I have changed his dry dog food brand to one with the exact same ingredients and percentages as his previous one and I'm thinking maybe it's that but I also have a 10yr old goldie on the same food and he is fine. What do you think?
