I was also prescribed Ativan at 1mg every night before bed and they helped me sleep very well. Your Ativan and Alprazolam are benzodiazapenes and you should be careful when quitting them. Oxycontin and Percocets (Endocet) are both opiates and can definitely be quit cold turkey but you should probably taper of the Benzos....
Also, I was on the fentalyn patchs, oxycontin and percocet and it was a piece of cake to get off of them compared to getting off the benzo. I'm on xanex and don't think I will ever be able to get off of this drug. Good luck getting off the ativan. Perhaps if you don't have panic disorder with agoraphobia you will be able to get off of it just fine by tapering down slow and steady. Good luck.
I've been on the patch 50MG. Put one on every 2 days, been on the same dose for 12 yrs. my body is so used to it, it does nothing to pain anymore, I'm also on 8mg. Of Diluadid 3xday. Will I have with drawls going from the patch to the oxy? I used to be on OxyContin like 15 yrs ago, I got weaned off of the oxy too on the patch, I had no with drawls from the oxy, my dr. Slowly weaned me, no problem at all.
I have been using narcotic painkillers off and on since about 12th grade. (I am now 22). I was clean from Feb 2005- August 2006. In the past 6 months I have been taking about 5-6 10mg percocets everyday. Within the past month I have been either doing that or snorting ATLEAST 1 80mg oxycontin a day. My friends finally found out about my "double life" and this gave me a strong incentive to quit. I havent touched any opiates in about 48 hours...
Tonight I was cleaning out my med bag to ensure no more norco was lurking in there. I recall purging all the Ativan, Xanax, Klonopin, Clonadine, Valium, and oxycontin last time I went ct. To my delight, I found that I clung on to one bottle of hydroxyxine. I immediately thought "score", I'm sleeping tonight. I just can't remember if I had any drowsiness the next day or not after taking them. They were rx'd after my last major surgery so I could sleep.
They moved to Select Care for long term acute care and since then shes only been receiving Oxycontin 10mg and Ativan 1mg every 6 hours for pain and to keep her calm. She's completely out of it, won't respond to anything, basically laying there as if she were lifeless. She's still on the vent. Does anyone know what could be wrong as to why she's still sleeping and not responsive to touch, voice, nothing? please help.

It took the doctors 2 years to figure out that it was my kidney that was causing all my pain, during these 2 years I was sent to a pain specialist that did multiple spinal nerve blocks and nerve burnings which none worked. I was put on Oxycontin 20mg 2 times daily. The pain was getting worse and worse because the kidney was free floating in the abdomen and the urinary lines were being pulled on I was moved up to 80mg of oxycontin 3 times daily.
the way i did it was going to the ER on day 3, they gave me clonidine and ativan. the first helps with the stomach cramping, shakes, restless legs and arms....it does something to the neurotransmitters in you brain....when you are detoxing your brain is going crazy sending all sorts of messages to your body....and the ativan calms you down and helps you sleep....i dont know too much about suboxone, but i think that is the way i am going to try and go this time...
i started hydrocodone 15 months ago and 4 months ago added oxycontin. i now take 80 mg hydro once a day and 180 mg oxy in am and 60 mg oxy in pm. if im honest id have to say i do it for the buzz!! i have ruptured discs in back but im ready to stop the meds. im limited to what i can take...i cant take nsaids (non steroid anti inflammatory drug). im scheduled to go to a detox on monday (2 days from now) but am really scared of the wd. they tell me they will give me ativan to help with wd.

I'm taking one Gravol per day to help nausea. And Ativan at night to sleep. I just hope in the end, I won't need these either. For the moment though, they help me get throug the days and nights.
I really like the nurse practitioner at my pain clinic. She really listens and is thoughtful and thinks things through and also asks for my input. So, what we came up with was to start on 40 mg. ocycontin three times a day, use 15 to 45 mg. oxycodone for breakthrough pain as needed, clonidine 1mg. twice a day, and Ativan 1 mg. up to 3 times a day. Also to continue using the compounding cream.
I was clean sunday and did not feel great, but not terrible. yesterday i woke up with terrible diarrhea and felt lethargic all day. i took some adderall and a couple tylenol and felt good enough to finally eat yesterday afternoon, but by the night time i felt like death. i decided that maybe i should try to cut down my dose over a week or so instead of going cold turkey, so i did about 20mg last night. I still felt the urge for more, but instead i took a xanax and went to sleep.

during a professional detox, most hosptials or clinics will use right around the same standard procedure...i went through a medically supervised detox and i was given lorazepam. the ativan will help with the anxeity, restessness, the muscel spasms/cramps/aches, insomnia, and other mental wd symptoms, you just have to be very careful in how long you actively use the ativan as it is very addictive and the wd's are horrendous and can be life threatening..
Okay, well how are you directed to take them both? Is one as needed, both as needed, and if so, how do you know when to take which? Do you take one of them regularly? It's pretty uncommon to be prescribed two short-acting benzos concurrently.
The equivalency between the two meds isn't an exact science, but per equivalency charts, approximately 0.5mg of Xanax equals 1mg of Ativan, so the Xanax is roughly twice as potent, mg to mg. Again, not an exact science.
What symptoms of a hangover are you talking about? If you're speaking of anxiety, that's most likely not a hangover, but rather the typical after effects of alcohol consumption.
Taking Ativan for hangover symptoms would technically considered abuse of your prescription, since that isn't what it's prescribed for, and all around a bad idea.
I think the headache was from something else and not the ativan. Woke up this morning with no headache and took .25mg of ativan and no headache. We'll see what happens later today....
I'm a bit sedated right now on just .25mg. too.

Sounds like you are all set to go. Be careful with the Valium, the Ativan and the Pot. Don't put yourself in a position to get addicted to something else.
