Asacol and kidney disease

Common Questions and Answers about Asacol and kidney disease

asacol

Avatar f tn My doctor put me on Asacol and I had horrible uncontrollable diarrhea. I took it for a few months and decided constipation was less painful and embarressing than diarrhea. You may try drinking Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with honey. It's a natural remedy for reducing inflammation and it works.
89592 tn?1391274422 saw him on the 5th and called him yesterday to remind him of my liver concern and he said the asacol would be okay. I also have a question for Dr Schiano to get his thoughts. Thank you...I will do some more checking...I did get the pamphlets from my drugstore concerning the asacol and checked online. UGH....I just dont want to do more damage.
Avatar f tn All other tests and antibodies were negative, SED rate was normal, liver and kidney chemistries normal, C-reactive protein normal, no anemia, CBC normal, etc. Doc wants me to start Asacol but the side effects seem worse than my mild diarrhea. Question is, should I take the anti-inflammatory to try and stop the autoimmune process? The rheumy thinks this could progress to Crohn's, Colitis or autoimmune hepatitis someday. I'm thinking about consulting a naturopathic doctor.
Avatar n tn However, he also still has many symptoms that are unrelated to the Crohn’s Disease and they are now testing him for other diseases which may be Lupus, MS and or Rheumatoid Arthritis. We are wondering if there are any recommended treatment for Crohn’s other than Prednisone and Align and if there is any other disease that it may be and how to get tested for it. We have tried so many things and nothing seems to be working at this point. We would appreciate any advice.
Avatar n tn Use caution when treating patients with liver disease. Dosage should be properly followed and if u are experiencing digestive or renal problems, consult your doctor. Alcohol can increase the chances of a fatty liver and if u feel some type of pain and inflammation in your liver region, then consult your doctor.
Avatar f tn Just recently his doctor took him off the pentasa and started him on Imuran (an immune suppressant). Since his disease gets quite severe this can possibly put him in remission for a number of years. It takes about 4 months to kick in. They have proven that taking Imuran early in your diagnosis can dramatically alter the progression of your disease. Good luck!
Avatar m tn The Gastro doc wants to treat me with Asacol, but I am suffering from CKD GFRaround 45%.......I told doc and he said ok entercort would be the alternative. that is also an issue as i am a diabetic I have read that just taking imodium and fiber works quiet often also pepto bismol is this correct, Immodium is what i have been using for the last four years any where from 1/2 a pill per day to 1 pill depending if I have not had a movement for day then i back off until I do.
Avatar m tn Next day pan got worse and started coming from kidney area. Couldnt bare the pain after 7 days so I stopped and pain eventually faded after 2 weeks. Told my doc, he said it was probably in my head and wrote a new script for a different form of Mesalamine (which is what Asacol is). I decided to pursue all other options before trying this medication.
Avatar m tn Does Crohn's disease affect an hepatits c antibody test... and if so how long should you wait to be tested after exposure? Exposure was through a sub q needle stick at work... i was wearing gloves and got tested 7 and a half months after it. Negative results but I have had crohn's disease for at least 2-3 years... I am currently taking ASACOL HD 800mg 2 tabs twice a day.. i also have ulcerated colitis... I have ocasional diarrhea nothing to bad.
Avatar m tn I enjoy the Lialda because I was taking 3 pills three times a day with Asacol and now I only take 4 pills once a day with Lialda. I haven't been on the Lialda for very long, but so far the results are good. I'm not sure that it is better than Asacol, but I think it is easier and equal in performance. You might ask your doctor if they have any prescription cards for Lialda. My doctor was given cards from Lialda, which you can use with your insurance.
Avatar n tn s and have been on various treatments since then. I have been taking Asacol for years. I have also used enemas--sometimes daily and sometimes twice a day. I had been on Remicade briefly--3 treatments--before going on to Immuran, an immunosuppressant, which worked for about 3 yrs. But, last November I had another flare up. I tried to just deal with it, hoping that it would clear up on it's own because I detest going on steroids--it really screws up my diabetes.

Avatar n tn Had coloscopy in August-showed some mild inflammation in ilieum and rectal area-was put on Asacol. Asacol helped the rectal pain but RLQ pain continued. Went back to ED in Nov for severe RLQ pain. CT and bloodwork normal. I had changed from Asacol to Pentasa the week before and the rectal pain had come back-significant burning pain. Went to another doctor and had more bloodwork-borderline IBD tests. Went off Pentasa for a few days in Dec and had severe RLQ pain and right hand pain.
Avatar f tn s not) and also low iron and potassium. She is now taking the prednisone, imuran, asacol, aciphex, an iron supplement, probiotics and a multi vitamin. I hope this works, but now, someone today was telling me that she also has symptoms of celiac disease (they seem to be same as UC) and I dont' know if you can have both at the same time or not...if anyone knows or has any information, I would greatly appreciate it...
Avatar f tn I started Asacol almost two weeks ago, and it worked very well after a couple of days, but after almost two weeks, I got very weak, dizzy spells, fatigue, like the flu. It's been five days, and most of the time I need to lay down. I couldn't go to work today. When does it stop? I stopped the medication four days ago. It was for colitis.
1483944 tn?1288100910 i was diagnosed with Crohns in 2006 and on Prednisolone and Asacol then undiagnosed in 2008 and told I have IBS. I now take IBS medication but it is not working, i am in pain daily right side and have gastroentiritus issues alot as well as bowel issues, Is my doctor wrong? all my investigations are showing nothing,,,,,I am so confused! please help me!
Avatar m tn Try to stay away from dairy, alcohol, grains (have rice instead). If you can figure out what triggered the flare, that would be helpful so you know to avoid it in the future.
Avatar n tn You're the boss, not him. You also have a duty as a parent to make sure he is healthy. By saying 'I can't do anything' you effectively are neglecting your child. If you can't protect him, perhaps the state should. They will do what you won't. It seems, you need to put your foot down and get serious about his health. It sounds like he's extremely ill and has liver disease along with cardiac disease and a list of other ailments.
Avatar f tn s disease, carcinoid syndrome, intersticial lung disease and sirosis of the liver. I had a colonoscopy done in Boston a month ago and learned that all the pain I have been having in my stomach (which they kept testing me for diviticilitis (sp?) for the last year was in fact Crohn's. I am learning as much as I can and am on antibiotics right now for another flare up. My doctor is going to put me on Azechol (not sure of the spelling) and he said it is a good medication.
Avatar n tn Diagnosed w/ Ulcerated colitus -Asacol prescribed. Have had disease since I was 16 -- I'm now 61. The days and weeks of diahrrea limit my life and activities. Outside of Colostomy, I know there is no cure, but can taking over the counter drugs like acidolphus bring any relief. Taking Immodium Ad only adds to the problem with severe stomach cramps. I know steroid treatment is out there, but not looking forward to side effect.
Avatar n tn DO you have any diarrhea with pain around your belly button area or joint pain? I take Imuran and Asacol with the occasional prednisone and that seems to be working well. It's hard when doctors change I also recently just had to take my bx results to another gastro because my current one, he's great, he retired damn it! But it's almost like you have to start over with them it's so frustrating.
Avatar n tn It has now been 8 months of frequent bloody/mucousy stools and no relief. I have been on Asacol, Sulfasalazine, and most recently Lialda which I had a bad reaction to. Nothing has improved my symtoms. I recently started seeing a new GI and she retested me and I am positive for C diff. She also tested a ANCA-IBD P-ANCA Titer recently that came back negative.
Avatar n tn I have noticed that my asacol is not breaking down and is being passed in my stool! Is their a reason for this? What can/should I do?
Avatar f tn I'm so sorry you are going through so much. I'm 48 right now and was diagnosed with UC when I was 22. I didn't have issues with my periods but would encourage you to get checked for ovarian cysts which can cause problems with that. Asacol is fine for pregnant women. I took it all through my pregnancy without any problems. My son was diagnosed with UC when he was 20 but he is in remission due to taking Imuran.
Avatar f tn Hello, Honestly I don't know that much about crohns and of course you would have to go with what your doctors tell you. But, a good book is "Physician, Heal Thyself" by Jordan Rubin. He was diagnosed with Crohns and basically healed himself (pretty much nearly died from it) - and then he became a doctor. He had other books as well. They are at the library. He has one called "The Maker's Diet".
420686 tn?1219632592 After having her, I had CD and went to a GI doctor and got diagnosed with Crohns. With medicine (ASACOL) all my symptons went away in about 4 months.. Then I got pregant with my son in 2005 and I had a great pregnancy.. no problems, no symptons of Crohns. The day I gave birth to him, my Crohns came back with a vengance. All my symptons came back and they were worse than before. This time, my medicine (ASACOL) didnt work and had to go with something stronger.
