Avatar n tn hi, I also take xanax, and while I agree that it helps a great deal for anxiety, it is addicting. Ive been taking them every day for about 7 months and i now i feel like i cant get thru the day w/out them. if i dont take them, i literally feel like im jumping out of my skin, and i wish i had never started taking them. I wouldnt be afraid to take them on an as-needed basis, but if i could go back, i would never have started taking them every day, but thats just me.

It is amazing how that f/u can help the patient feel that the doctor really cared about helping them.
Avatar n tn They come and go throughout the day and are very disruptive to my thinking of 'what's going on with me? - which I'm guessing only breeds more anxiety. The only other med I'm on is Lipitor for cholestorol. I'm reluctant to try any anti-anxiety meds since I had a bad bout with cymbalta a few months back and I really don't feel as though I need it. I just want the pain to stop. I've tried numerous relaxation and meditation methods which are very calming and helpful, but still the pain comes.

What pish-posh I thought to myself. Well, after 1 year of having these #$%^$@ panic attacks, it's not pish-posh anymore.

You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.

I treated for 72 weeks and was able to continue working full time as a surgeon; however, it wasn’t fun. You might not be nearly as lucky, and I think luck is one of the primary determinants of how bad your side effects might be. Knowing what I know now, I would not go through treatment right now if my liver biopsy showed minimal changes.

Avatar f tn Distraction is a big weapon for withdrawal and for pain management. The more you focus on your pain, the higher your anxiety levels go. The worse your anxiety becomes, the more your body tenses up. The more tense you are, the worst your pain will be. It doesn't matter what you use for distraction - reading, watching a movie, praying, meditation, conscious relaxation - just try it. Like any other activity, distraction is a skill that improves with effort and practice. Hang in there!
