Avatar m tn The doctors on this forum claim that vasoconstrictor overuse cannot cause permanent damage, yet the drug cuts off blood flow to certain parts of the eye. Does this mean that cutting off blood flow to certain parts of the eye cannot cause permanent damage?

Avatar f tn This medicaion prohibits the kidneys fro producing angiotension. Angiotension is hormone that suppresses as a vasoconstrictor. Or there can be ARB and that lowers blood pressure by binding angiotensin to a receptor. Either can be effective and the combination of the two can be an option as well. What meds have you tried.
Avatar m tn Was using OTC Naphcon-A for just under a month to help my eyes get better, until I was doing some research today (because I realized nothing was really getting better) and found out that the reason it worked so well was that it contained a vasoconstrictor, which apparently should never be used for more than 10 days (despite the fact that the box *literally* said "can be used up to 4 times every day"... very misleading).
Avatar n tn Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor, which works on your kidneys to reduce blood pressure by preventing an enzyme that converts angio-tensin1 into angiotensin2. Angiotensin2 is a strong vasoconstrictor. ACE-inhibitors prevent that vasoconstrictor (narrowing of blood vessels and causing higher blood pressure) from being produced, thereby vasodilation (widening of blood vessels so the pressure within the vessel is lower) occurs.
Avatar f tn Well, cocaine can be a vasoconstrictor and erections basically involve blood flow. So, there is actually science to affecting your penis and genital health. Cocaine is a nasty drug. Yes, it can affect your penis health permanently. I don't know if one month of heavy use would do this. But if I were you, I'd just say no to that activity. Get back to life and see if things return to normal. The truth is, the damage to blood vessels from excessive vasoconstriction can be permanent.
Avatar m tn Now around 7 months ago I took a drug called benzedrex which probably nobody knows about because its a really shady thing to take I was just an idiot looking for a high. Anyways its very bad for you Its very cardiotoxic and a really bad vasoconstrictor. After that night I remember the next day I thought I was having a heart attack and had to go to the hospital. I got an ekg and was told everything was fine my heart looked great and they said it was probably stress which I didn't really buy.
Avatar m tn Rapid diagnosis and management are important, since recent treatment modalities including vasoconstrictor therapy can improve short-term outcome and buy time for liver transplantation, which can result in complete recovery.” https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar n tn What kind were you taking?
Avatar n tn Theophylline can also be used as a somewhat mild vasoconstrictor, (similar in strength to the vasoconstricting ability of Ritalin in my experience).
963651 tn?1247528914 It might work great for your son, though. Have your doctors mentioned ProAmatine (midodrine, a vasoconstrictor) or Mestinon (helps muscles contract)? ProAmatine is a very common drug to try with NCS, and Mestinon is becoming more so. Has your son seen a neurologist? Sometimes a clear neurological cause can be found for this and treated. I really wish you the best!
Avatar f tn You can try some natural remedies, drink pure grape juice and a red bull, the caffine in the red bull helps and the grape juice is a vasoconstrictor.(hope I spelled it right) also use warm or cool compresses whichever feels better. If you try those and it doesn't help go to the er. Hope u feel better soon.
612551 tn?1450022175 I had prior to the vet visit above been given Wilson one half Benedryl 25 mg Antihistamine morning and evening, in the hope it would clear up the paw problem. A couple weeks of this did not produce any improvement. I then checked and saw recommendations to use 1 - 2 mg per pound. As Wilson is j20+ pounds my does level was low. I have decided to continue giving him Benadryl but now one 25 mg capsule morning and night. Hope it keeps his paws and general itch problems under control.
Avatar f tn Here's one for the books. My daughter has had a allergic reaction to an oral antihistamine she took for what appeared to be hives just below the right side of her derriere. This little bout of hives were taking their time going away and so she thought by taking the antihistamine it would help the process.
Avatar f tn Hi, my dermatologist has prescribed me a antihistamine for my itching and wants me to use it for 4-6 weeks. The med is called hydroxzine. I am concerned because i never heard of anyone using antihistamine for that long. Will this severly affect my liver? Please help!
Avatar f tn s risk of developing respiratory (lung) problems. Nicotine by itself is a vasoconstrictor, it constricts arteries, including those in your uterus, which are responsible for delivering oxygen and nutrients to your developing baby. The study done recently in Denmark found that women who used nicotine-replacement therapy in pregnancy had a greater risk of having babies with birth defects than women who did not.
Avatar n tn Veramyst™ (fluticasone furoate) is a nasal inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) and, strictly speaking, not an antihistamine. As an anti-inflammatory medicine, however, has the potential to reduce histamine mediated inflammation, in a non-specific fashion. That it is not an antihistamine is evident by the very many studies of combination therapy, the combination of fluticasone with an histamine 2 (H2) blocker non-sedating antihistamine.
398716 tn?1201225548 Seeing that caffiene is a stimulus and a vasoconstrictor, it wouldn't seem that it's good for you in any sense. But I don't think it is harmful unless in large doses.
Avatar m tn It is true that prolonged use of vasoconstrictor drops such as Opcon-A can cause rebound redness; these drops just shrink the blood vessels, which then re-dilate once the effect has worn off. I would stop the Opcon-A, and just use artificial tears (Refresh, Optive, Systane) until you are able to see the ophthalmologist.
Avatar m tn Also, the nicotine in cigarettes is a vasoconstrictor, a bit like caffeine. Going off nicotine can increase blood flow and cause headache in certain people much like going off caffeine. You will likely adjust in a few days. You could keep trying the ibuprofen or Excedrin migraine if you tolerate it.
Avatar f tn Do not mix antihistamines though such as an oral antihistamine and spray. Ocean Spray does not have an antihistamine and will simply dry you out and is safe to use with an antihistamine.
Avatar n tn com will take you to all of the available antihistamine info. That same site also says that these antihistamine sleep aids are not for people with glaucoma or kidney disease.
