Common Questions and Answers about Antihistamine generic

antihistamine

Avatar f tn Keep track of all the medications that seem to cause the hives, and maybe even experiment with whether different generics of the same medication have the same side effects (for example one generic atarax is green and another white, which might make a difference if you are allergic to that particular coloring agent). You may even have to have an allergist help you figure out what exactly it is that you are allergic to.
Avatar n tn How long can i use antihistamine for my daughter aged 7 months to relieve her of the eczema itching.
666921 tn?1254990618 I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it
Avatar f tn Are Vistirol and Trazedon addictive? Are they a generic of other addictive drugs such as valium, opiate or is it something homepathic?
Avatar f tn For some reason I was having sneezing fits pretty bad yesterday, so I took 50mg or Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride, which is a generic antihistamine. The sneezing stopped, I got drowsy (this always happens when I take antihistamine), and within 30 minutes I was beginning to break out in hives. I usually only take 25mg to combat allergies, but I just wasn't in a conciliatory mood yesterday, so I took 50mg.
543225 tn?1214191119 Apply calamine lotion at the site of the lesions and see if it helps. You could take some oral antihistamine medications like cetrizine or loratadine. You need to maintain a good personal hygiene . Anti-itch drugs, often antihistamine, may reduce the itch during a flare up of eczema, and the reduced scratching in turn reduces damage and irritation to the skin. For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g.
Avatar f tn Benadryl is a antihistamine, and the particular antihistamine that is in it "Diphenhydramine" slows down the respiratory, lower then what the Benzo already bring it "thats the reason they give cronic hyperventilation people benzos, to slow down the breathing" The combination can cause DEATH...

Avatar f tn Fast forward about a week, the antihistamine (generic Claritin) did nothing and, in fact, my cough had gotten substantially worse: it was now very "junky" sounding, deep, congested, with wheezing. I went back to the doctor who diagnosed an upper respiratory infection, prescribed an antibiotic (doxycycline), along with an albuterol inhaler and a steroid inhaler (Flovent). I started the antibiotic but had a bad reaction to it (fever, chills, heart palpitations, etc.).
Avatar f tn No weight gain, tired but I take a strong antihistamine daily (side effect is fatigue) so before the antihistamine I was less tired. The doctor examined my thyroid and I don't have any lumps or abnormaliites. I had a CT scan of the throat about 6 months ago and that was normal. I don't know if the CT went as far as the thyroid but I think so. I am getting retested in 4 months. I did have a viral infection when I had my blood drawn and was thinking it could be that.
Avatar m tn Mine sometimes wakes me up in the middle of the night. The only thing that helps me is to take an antihistamine before going to bed. I take 10mg of a generic benedryl.
Avatar n tn You should keep the areas clean, wear cotton socks to avoid sweating, use a powder to keep the areas dry , use calamine lotion at the sites. Oral antihistamine medications would help if the lesions are itchy. Wear clean clothes and maintain good personal hygiene. If your symptoms persist it would be best to consult a skin specialist because nothing can be said with surety without a proper clinical examination. Let us know about how you are doing and if you have any other doubts.
Avatar f tn not life or death type allergies, but sneezing, itchy nose and eyes, headaches. I take a one a day antihistamine to deal with it. .. but it says on the box not to take if pregnant. Im only 7 weeks, and have stopped taking them... but my allergies are horrible at the moment. All the sneezing is not helping with my morning sickness. Avatar f tn Hello. I'm making an assumption that you're referring to a generic form of benadryl, or diphenhydramine. This is commonly found in nighttime pain relievers such as tylenol PM, as it causes drowsiness. In addition to its antihistamine effects, it is also used as a sleep aid. One of the symptoms of chronic alcohol abuse is insomnia, as heavy drinkers eventually reach a point where they no longer sleep properly, but pass out instead. This could be the purpose of using such a medication.
Avatar f tn t make a habit of taking unisom to fall asleep, as it is an antihistamine it can cause dryness of the throat and with long term use you may develop tolerance. Regards.
Avatar m tn I've been prescribed generic Remeron since I wasn't having much luck with the SSRI meds. I've been off meds for about six months and am not having much success on my own. I'm also going for CBT (cognetive behavior therapy) for my anxiety and am going to my first group support meeting this friday. Has anyone had recent experience with generic Remeron? Don't know what to expect for sure but the SSRI side effects were miserable. Thx again, Thom.
1747881 tn?1546175878 It works by changing the actions of chemicals in your brain. Promethazine also acts as an antihistamine. It blocks the effects of the naturally occurring chemical histamine in your body. Promethazine is used to treat allergy symptoms such as itching, runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, hives, and itchy skin rashes. Promethazine also prevents motion sickness, and treats nausea and vomiting or pain after surgery. It is also used as a sedative or sleep aid.

Avatar m tn Hello, These itchy red bumps can be due to allergic contact dermatitis to the shoes or stasis dermatitis. You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps. For mild-moderate symptoms a weak steroid may be used whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid. But they are available under prescription and should be taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Avatar m tn I also have internal hemorrhoids and the doctor has prescribed suppositories and possibly believes that the rash at least is from the suppositories, since that is a side effect, however for the past few days I have not been using the suppositories and the rash remains and even appears to be getting worse.
Avatar f tn 1) a better antihistamine. Benadryl is very weak and high in side effects. Zyrtec and Allegra are both OTC and generic and work great. 2) sinus rinse!!! My all time favorite addition to my life since my allergies demanded treatment. I prefer the NielMed sinus rinse bottle (it is the only bottle available) over neti pots as you can get a slightly stronger flow to better cleanse your sinuses of debris and pollen.
Avatar n tn I went and seen a doctor about this and was told I have allergies, I was perscribed the generic for singulair for 10 days, and zyrtec for about 2 weeks to see if I got better. I opted to take the medicine at night (tonight)...and i can't sleep and my throat is so dry even after water. I really dis like medicine...I get anxious...what are some other options to feel better?... HELP!
Avatar f tn I would speak with your doctor/midwife but I take an older generic of Chlortrimeton and was told it is considered one of the safer alternatives during pregnancy. Benadryl (and I think Claritin?) is also supposed to be fine but I find it is not as effective for me. I wonder which ingredient in DayQuil helps for allergies - perhaps the decongestant?
