Avatar n tn Hi, it sounds like you have had quite an ordeal with these allergies! i also have allergies, but mine were bad enough that i developed asthma and had to go on several medications to get it under control, now i only take zyrtec as needed. i don't know about allergies that are "digested first" with zyrtec, everyone has different reactions- but zyrtec is systemic so it should be help equally with your sore throat and itching.
1274661 tn?1301868321 so I take an OTC generic Antihistamine,,.one at night causes drowiness and the daily one does not...I keep both on hand and I have had great success with the one I am taking. I have not been on claritin D or zyrtec....they can get pricey even with med INS.....
Avatar f tn not life or death type allergies, but sneezing, itchy nose and eyes, headaches. I take a one a day antihistamine to deal with it. .. but it says on the box not to take if pregnant. Im only 7 weeks, and have stopped taking them... but my allergies are horrible at the moment. All the sneezing is not helping with my morning sickness. During my last pregancey my symptoms actually went away but not this time... my question is can i take my antihistamine?
Avatar f tn I was told to take zyrtec. Now I have a rash on my upper thighs. Is it the generic zyrtec? Would the regular Zyrtec do the same? Have you ever heard of Diamox being prescribed for Meneire's disease? I find nothing in the literature about it and am hesitant to take it as it makes me very tired. I need to sleep about 3 hours a day when I take it. I don't want to experience vertigo again.
770895 tn?1235085648 im 23 years old female, caucasian, 120 pounds, healthy active and i smoke only 1 cigarrette a day now, I have bad allergies, i have been taking the generic reactin brand for 5 days now every day, on today the fifth day I was at work and around noon I felt tired, then I felt dizzy and felt like I was going to be unconscience, I wouldn't stop shaking I took my BP and it was 155 over 85, I feel weak now but is it my allergy meds that caused me to do this? I have no prior problems with BP ever.
Avatar f tn Has anyone experienced severe itching problems when they stop taking Zyrtec?
Avatar f tn ) ) I would suggest that you try Zyrtec instead of the claritin. It is a stronger medicine. My allergist says that claritin might as well be a water pill for all it does for you. It also doesn't have the drowzy side effects you mentioned with the other. Even the generic is more expensive than the others though. I would also recommend sinus rinses if you aren't doing them already.
Avatar f tn About three months ago, after a brief cold, I decided I was ready to try to quit smoking again. The good news, I have been cigarette-free for three months, the bad news is that I've clearly done some serious damage. After quitting smoking the cough left over from my cold grew worse and I could feel my sinuses draining in the form of post-nasal drip.
850029 tn?1238857820 Does anyone know if you can grow resistant to antihistamines? I've been on Zyrtec for a year and feel like it doesn't work as well as it used to. I know that I have more allergens around me but would think I still should be getting relief. I spend at least $100 a month trying to get some relief. I'm thinking with nothing working I should just save myself $100:) the only time I feel someone what better is taking Advil Cold and Sinus, the Zyrtec seems to do nothing......
Avatar f tn 1) a better antihistamine. Benadryl is very weak and high in side effects. Zyrtec and Allegra are both OTC and generic and work great. 2) sinus rinse!!! My all time favorite addition to my life since my allergies demanded treatment. I prefer the NielMed sinus rinse bottle (it is the only bottle available) over neti pots as you can get a slightly stronger flow to better cleanse your sinuses of debris and pollen.
Avatar f tn We just adopted Penny last week. Our vet says she may have allergies and put her on benadryl 25 mg (she weighs 16 lbs) twice a day until he rechecks her on 1/7. The rescue organization wrote me and said benadryl was not safe; to use zyrtec (which I do on my male that I've had almost 10 years). Is benadryl safe for approximately 1 month's use? We want only the best for Penny. What should we do?
Avatar m tn You can get both Zyrtec and Claritin over the counter, and both come in a generic form (I take the generic form of Zyrtec). This helped my allergies tremendously, I would recommend taking one daily while your symptoms are in full-force, and then backing off to just whenever it's needed when your symptoms settle down. If you ever know of a time when your allergies would bother you a great deal (like if you were going to have to do a major spring-cleaning, or doing a lot of dusting,...etc.
612876 tn?1355514495 Have you tried a second generation H1 antihistamine like Zyrtec or Claritin in lieu of Benadryl (which is a first generation H1 antihistamine)? The second-gens are more selective toward the peripheral nervous system, and with less central nervous system activity (this is what makes them be able to claim less "drowsiness" side effects than the first gens like Benadryl), they're supposed to be safer for people with dysautonomia.
Avatar n tn These types of questions are always best answered by a docotor or pharmacist. However, phenylephedrin is a decongestant, benadryl is an antihistamine and vicodin is a narcotic pain reliever. The concern would be that both bendryl and the vicodin would cause drowziness on their own. They would magnify that effect when taken together. You might want to take Zyrtec instead of the benadryl as Zyrtec doesn't cause the drowziness that benadryl does.
Avatar n tn Or could this be a food allergy? I take a wonderful antihistamine called xyzal. It works really well but when it wears off I'm in trouble. I'm getting an allergy test soon but have to be off the antihistamine for 5 days and I'm scared about that. I get so uncomfortable. Has anyone out there ever experienced this similiar problem?
Avatar f tn t have an appointmet with my doctor for two weeks. I had been taking singulair and zyrtec but I stopped until I can clear it with my doctor. Are these medicines safe and if not is there a safe one out there?
Avatar f tn Yes, I asked my midwife if claritin is ok. She said yes, as well as zyrtec and benadryl.
Avatar f tn Had been on Augmentin for a sinus infection, just finishing up the script, and take Crestor, Nexium, and Zyrtec on a regular basis. Symptoms started a few days after starting generic Zyrtec, which also caused unbelievable dryness that felt like I was dehydrated (no vomiting, though). A day after the chills, I noticed my urine was dark and my stools were very light, almost gray, and I started getting very itchy but no rash.
689528 tn?1364135841 10mg every day for the first five days and then every other day for the next five, in addition he gets a generic Zyrtec everyday. Now he just gets a zyrtec every day, and if his allergies act up beyond the zyrtec's control, like this time of year ,he gets a prednisone per day for 3 or 4 days and then every other day for two or until things calm down. Zyrtec can be expensive, but we actually found a generic brand at the dollar store! $1. for 14 pills, so we clear their shelves!
Avatar n tn Hi, the drugs you have mentioned are Histamine H1 Antagonist, belonging to Second Generation. These are newer anti histaminics which are devoid of sedation. That is the main advantage over the first generation anti histamines. Both are mainly used in treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis and treatment of chronic idiopathic urticaria. Headache and drowsiness are side effects seen with loratidine. Whereas headache and vomiting with fexofenadine.
Avatar f tn I have seasonal allergies and was wondering the best OTC antihistamine would work better. Allegra, Zyrtec or loratadine. I was on 12.5 zoloft for 2 weeks and tapering up to 25 mg (split another 12.5 in half so 3/4 a pill then one whole 25 mg. I have to do this slowly as I am super sensitive to meds. Thanks for any help. Plus I eventually need to taper down my ativan when I level on the zoloft.
Avatar n tn In the mean time pick up some generic Zyrtec or Claritin. It should help.
