Common Questions and Answers about Antihistamine for allergic reaction

antihistamine

Avatar n tn What you need to do is to stop using anything that causes an allergic reaction and to apply antihistamine cream or ointment to the affected parts. Ask your pharmacist for advice in choosing an over-the-counter preparation.
Avatar f tn Here's one for the books. My daughter has had a allergic reaction to an oral antihistamine she took for what appeared to be hives just below the right side of her derriere. This little bout of hives were taking their time going away and so she thought by taking the antihistamine it would help the process.
666921 tn?1254990618 I agree with Patsy about asking doctor - just wanted to pass this info. on - antihistamine supressess the allergic reaction - so though I read it on another forum - it still makes sense to me to try to avoid taking it - anyway asking the doc. about any 'drugs' is always a good idea.
Avatar n tn How long would it take to have an allergic reaction to a topically applied cosmetic treatment? I have had a reaction to something and all I can think of is that I used some new products containing natural herbs and fruit enzymes etc, however this was almost 48 hours ago. My symptoms are itching and bumpy, slightly reddened skin on my face.
Avatar m tn Allergic reactions just happen. One day your body may tolerate a certain medication or food just fine ... and then another day you have swelling, itching, hives, swelling and trouble breathing! Yes, it's that quick sometimes. Your reaction time must be quick as well. As caregiver said, you need to carry either a 'epi-pen' or whatever medication(s) you and your Dr agree would be best in case of an allergic episode! Best of luck - take care!
Avatar n tn Apply calamine lotion at the site and take some oral antihistamine medications like loratadine or cetrizine for your complaints. If the symptoms are still persistent after a few days, consult your dermatologist and get a proper clinical evaluation done. Let us know if you have any doubts and keep us posted on how you are doing. Good luck.
1965789 tn?1325556251 It may be worth asking about the antihistamine too. I know doctors are a little iffy about allowing a child to have the antihistamine, but she may need more so it could be worth asking about correct dosage. Likewise if her swelling, rash, or fever gets anyworse I'd suggest taking her to the ER. And if it sounds like she's having difficultly breathing I'd suggest taking her to the ER asap! Otherwise make sure she sees the dr first thing in the morning.
Avatar f tn For approximately 9 wks now I have been having an allergic reaction to something. I get welts all over my body which are extremelty itchy. My face, lips, eyes and tongue swells to where you can't recognize me. I occasionally have severe joint pain. I have been to the doctors and an "allergist". I have had alot of test which basically came back negative (R.
Avatar f tn Since then I have avoided taking any antihistmaines except for Benadryl. I did take an occasional Claritin but it seems like every time I did anything I break out more. My allergist told me to try Claritin tabs instead of gel caps but I took one after having my allergy shot and I broke out in hives again. Now all the pollen is out and my eyes are really itchy and red and I have a hard time seeing at work. I tried taking Atarax last night to see if that would help more than Benadryl.
Avatar n tn 30 AM. I never experienced an allergic reaction. On 1/26 at 10:30 PM I took a 10 mg dose of Levitra after a dinner during which I consumed two alcoholic drinks (whisky with water and a glass of white wine). In the course of the early morning I experienced some itching in my genital area. In the morning at around 8 AM I noticed swelling of my index finger of my right hand an rash/hives in my genital area, front waste, and under my arms. I have consumed much water in the course of the day.
Avatar f tn I know this had happened in 2008 but if anyone is wondering if this was an allergic reaction. I went to the ER (Sept. 19, 2011) with what the Dr. said WAS an allergic reaction to DECADRON. My face, neck, and chest were VERY red, so red that it became a dark red almost red-purple look.
Avatar m tn Question: I am still experiencing an allergic reaction to intradermal allergy skin testing. I have joint pain in my shoulder on the arm where allergy testing occurred. My skin is warm to the touch over the area tested and the skin marks where injections were done are larger though less raised than after the initial test. What should I do? I have applied a prescription steroid cream. I have taken my normal antihistamine. I have taken benadryl on top of it.
Avatar n tn no new foods, lotions. I am allergic to dust but never had a reaction like this. I look UGLY.
Avatar n tn From now on refrain from eating anything with mushrooms in it and if you do by chance happen to have some take some type of Antihistamine to fight the allergic reaction.
Avatar n tn It is possible that you could be experiencing a delayed allergic reaction. Have you tried Benadryl or Zyrtec?
Avatar f tn Today is Monday and I noticed this for the first time 2 nights ago, Saturday night. I have pimple-like bumps all over my entire body EXCEPT from the neck up, my chest and my abdomen. I have very pale skin that tends to flush red when I'm cold or hot. In this instance I'm slightly cold so my skin is flushed a bit red and these pimple-like bumps show up as WHITE against the pink skin. Most are small... less than half a cm...
Avatar m tn My wife has had an allergic reaction to doxycycline. She took pills for about one week and then she noticed a few red spots on her body. She stoped taking the medicine but the spots continued to spread more and more for over a week now. Someplace they just grow into one big spot anymore and they start to be itchy. Doctors say to wait, another says to take steroids, which we are reluctant to take. What shall we do? Anybody seen or heard about similar cases?
Avatar f tn A second geberation antihistamine, like Allegra, helps control one part of the allergic skin reaction. A prescription medicine, Singulair acts on another part of the allergic reaction. You may want to ask your doctor about it. This forum is not a substitute for a medical examination, but you may have asthma. Asthma causes your airways to spasm causing breathing problems and could be triggered by cold weather.
Avatar f tn If this is an allergic reaction to anything, you will more than likely benefit from an antihistamine. Your doctor would be able to advise you with regard to the appropriate cream to apply to your hand. Your chemist may be able to give you some advice, so do ask and show him your hand. He may be able to recommend a particular cream for you to apply to your skin, and advise on the use of an antihistamine.
Avatar m tn If it is an allergic reaction then taking some antihistamine (for a few days) and stopping use of the product that caused the reaction will clear this up. However, if you have not used anything new and do not think it is an allergic reaction then i would go to the doctor. I dont know of any STI's that cause flaking/reddening on the scrotum as well as the penis.. Also this may be helpful: http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/help/bodykey/Questions/Index.aspx?
Avatar n tn After drinking a smirknoff ice and a little bit of vodka I have developed rashes all over my body. My whole body was red but there is no hives. Could this be an allergic reaction to alcohol.
