Avatar n tn I was wondering where the best place for me would be to find a complete list of medicines I should stay away from with Long QT syndrome. I have a list but it is over 5 years old, and I am in need of a new one! Thank You!
Avatar f tn Hi, my dermatologist has prescribed me a antihistamine for my itching and wants me to use it for 4-6 weeks. The med is called hydroxzine. I am concerned because i never heard of anyone using antihistamine for that long. Will this severly affect my liver? Please help!
Avatar f tn Since then I have avoided taking any antihistmaines except for Benadryl. I did take an occasional Claritin but it seems like every time I did anything I break out more. My allergist told me to try Claritin tabs instead of gel caps but I took one after having my allergy shot and I broke out in hives again. Now all the pollen is out and my eyes are really itchy and red and I have a hard time seeing at work. I tried taking Atarax last night to see if that would help more than Benadryl.
Avatar f tn not life or death type allergies, but sneezing, itchy nose and eyes, headaches. I take a one a day antihistamine to deal with it. .. but it says on the box not to take if pregnant. Im only 7 weeks, and have stopped taking them... but my allergies are horrible at the moment. All the sneezing is not helping with my morning sickness. During my last pregancey my symptoms actually went away but not this time... my question is can i take my antihistamine?
Avatar f tn Yes, the little one could have ADHD. It certainly is an inherited disorder for many - but not all kids. But, i have had kids in the classroom who have ADHD and their brother or sister did not. So it certainly is not guaranteed. By the way, I have seen the changes in how ADHD is treated over the years. Having spent almost 40 years in the classroom. It is being treated much better now then it was.
Avatar n tn DSM-IV does not classify medications. Coricidin is an antihistamine, not a mental health medication.
Avatar n tn How to effectively try and change his behavior. And most importantly, it will also give you a feeling for how ADHD effects kids. That apparently is something your docs have not bothered to tell you - and from the questions I get over on the ADHD forum - this happens a lot. I can also recommend other web sites that have good suggestions on how to help/work with kids with ADHD.
Avatar m tn thanks for the reply, yes i googled that before messaging and the only one it shows is Seldane, because of the problem with this antihistamine and that it had been taking off the market (not a newer antihistamine), i wanted to know of any other antihistamines? are there no others for enlarged prostate sufferers? 2nd question is after stopping the intake of antihistamine that effect the prostate, woiuld these be a short term effect and the prostate goes back to how it was?
Avatar f tn Meds along with behavior therapy works very well for kids with ADHD. It is a very good idea that you find a therapist to work with your daughter. Every child on psychotropic medication should be seeing a therapist in conjunction with their meds. Please don't count on the meds to change things. The real change comes from the mental health counseling.
Avatar m tn t appear to have, but it is legal to use it for depression or ADHD. It would usually only be used for those things if the drugs developed to treat those things weren't working. You need to do what you feel works for you, and if that's what you're doing now, keep at it. But since you did post here, I assumed you were wondering.

Avatar m tn //www.medpagetoday.com/Pediatrics/ADHD-ADD/24685 Finally, if you do have ADHD, you do need to rethink your position on stimulant medications. They work very differently on someone who has ADHD. What would send a normal person up the wall, will just calm down and help a person who has ADHD focus. If, of course, the medication is accurately prescribed. Also, depression, is a very common co-disorder of ADHD. Many times depression has been caused by ADHD.

Avatar m tn I was wondering if you have an opinion on Cogmed for improving memory in ADHD children. What age is optimal for a child to do the Cogmed program (my child is 9)? Summer is coming and I was told that usually it is better to have the child go through the program during the summer vacation. Thank you again for your input.

Avatar n tn If you use an antihistamine thinking it's an allergy when indeed it's really a heart problem, the antihistamine can make the heart worse, so you must get a diagnoses before you treat..... Licking air is usually Nausea or acid reflux....Post nasal drip normally causes a cough...Good luck & let us know what you find out....
1460021 tn?1445735958 Thanks for your reply :) I didn't really give much information about my situation, i should of mentioned that i am extremely irritable even by the smallest things, get angry very quickly, get emotional very quickly...the list goes on... Previously to being diagnosed with ADHD i had a 2 year painkiller dependence, depression and anxiety, which now through research (and also seeing a psychiatrist) i see these behaviors were me "coping" with undiagnosed ADHD.
Avatar n tn It is possible that your son has both ADHD and anxiety issues. However, it is common today for medical personnel to misdiagnose a child because the behaviours for some anxiety disorders and ADD/ADHD are very similar. Since the medication for ADHD is not working, I wonder if this could be the problem in your son's situation - he suffers from anxiety but not ADD/ADHD. Usually, the medication for anxiety is one of the SSRI's - non-habit-forming medications.
Avatar n tn It sounds like he is struggling with anxiety rather than ADHD and the stimulant ADHD medications only intensify these feeling of anxiety. A great medication option for this is Straterra (a non stimulant ADHD medicine that helps with anxiety as well) and Vistaril (an antihistamine used to treat anxiety). I will keep you guys in my prayers. I hope he is much better by now.
Avatar m tn Do let your doctor know what is going on. Finding the right dosage is many times a trial and error thing as all people are different. And yes, there are other meds out there that may work better, but all that starts with a trip to the doctor. Give it another shot and then if things still aren't working "tschock" has some very good advice. You might also want to read a new book by a UC Berkley honors student with severe ADHD about growing up with ADHD.
