Avatar n tn It made me drowsy so I ended up only taking half a dose. For me, the half dose controlled symptoms just fine! Otherwise, no complaints with it.
Monster Hello. Thank you for your question. I usually recommend that patients either take one or the other, not both at same time. Benadryl is sedating (makes your drowsy), so I usually counsel patients that they can take that at night. Conversely, most patients prefer a nonsedating antihistamine like Zyrtec during the daytime. -Dr.
Avatar f tn The drowsy/alert effect varies from person to person but it won't affect the antihistamines itself.
Avatar n tn They knock me out for extended periods of time, by making me lethargic, and extremely drowsy and sluggish. I used an antihistamine eye drop yesterday, and, shortly, had all the above symptoms. My question is simply, can one's system absorb antihistamines through the use of antihistamine eye drops?
Avatar n tn Diphenhydramine hydrochloride (commonly sold as benedryl) is an antihistamine which makes patients drowsy, so is taken in higher doses at bedtime to make patients sleep. It is sold in 25 mg pills and as extra strength, 50 mg pills. I found a list of drug recommendations on the Janis & Friends site last year and it said that patients were allowed up to 200 mg per night while on IFN/ribivirin therapy and it's what I used for sleep throughout TX.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed me diclegis which is the B6 and an antihistamine. Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't make me the slightest bit drowsy. I'm supposed to take it at bedtime because it can make you drowsy. Works to keep away the n/v though. Might check with your doctor to see if that's a possible solution for you? Good luck!
442658 tn?1563386491 its just that i feel so zonked out with no sleep. i have like kroger brand antihistamine that makes u drowsy. is this what you mean?
Avatar m tn Ive been on every antihistamine, OTC & Rx. Ive tried every sunblock. Ive even been on XOLAIR for 6 months, but stopped because i wasnt getting much relief from it. so im going back to antihistamines, but no matter which one i use, it knocks me out! l cant function. my doctor told me to take montelukast sodium with zyrtec. if i take these at night, will they still be as effective the next day? will i still be drowsy all day?
Avatar m tn I am not an expert but my understanding is that one is not stronger than the other. However, Piriton is more likely to make you feel drowsy. Fexofenadine does not do this. You only need to take one Fexofenadine for the whole day, which is useful. Clarityn is another non-sedating antihistamine that you only need to take once a day.

12498457 tn?1425603087 My Dr started me on a nightly antihistamine....taken a few hrs b4 I go to bed which also help me sleep...and for when I have more issues like a weather front or major change I take a non drowsy formula during the day in addition to my nightly dose..... Avatar f tn Not sure if I shared with u when I went to the ER this summer I was told to take an antihistamine along with pain meds, and found that I sleep better in taking them...non drowsy for the day and the reg drowsy formula b4 bed....
Avatar n tn Or could this be a food allergy? I take a wonderful antihistamine called xyzal. It works really well but when it wears off I'm in trouble. I'm getting an allergy test soon but have to be off the antihistamine for 5 days and I'm scared about that. I get so uncomfortable. Has anyone out there ever experienced this similiar problem?
Avatar f tn Clariton is an antihistamine that has something in it to keep you from getting drowsy (antihistamines normally make you sleepy and can be used for insomnia). I suspect it is the additive in the Clariton that gave you the headache. Some people react badly to it. If you want to try a standard antihistamine get Benadryl. If your symptoms go away then you know it is an allergy and not an infection. If it doesn't work, go to a doctor.
Avatar f tn When my son turned 1 I was done breastfeeding so my doctor said antihistamine in medicine dries ur milk up. Get the nin drowsy kind. Took about a week.
Avatar f tn Do u have Hashimoto's as well? Have u tried an antihistamine?

1460021 tn?1445735958 Well, congrats on your clean time, paying_it_forward! Sounds like things are going to be ok with you and you know what to look out for as far as your addictive behavior is concerned. Just keep it in check and like someone mentioned earlier, try out the claritin or zyrtec OTC for your allergic reactions..what about any OTC creams? That would be for the skin reaction and perhaps the itching/swelling, not the reaction you may get as far as eyes itching or watering, etc..
9156053 tn?1406059654 Yeah its an antihistamine, it will make you drowsy. Maybe your Dr can switch you?
Avatar f tn For some reason I was having sneezing fits pretty bad yesterday, so I took 50mg or Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride, which is a generic antihistamine. The sneezing stopped, I got drowsy (this always happens when I take antihistamine), and within 30 minutes I was beginning to break out in hives. I usually only take 25mg to combat allergies, but I just wasn't in a conciliatory mood yesterday, so I took 50mg.
Avatar f tn The antihistamine I take is non drowsy and at the first sign of hives I will take 60mg (lowest dose) in the morning and at night until gone and this has worked well for me. I suggest you start taking an antihistamine and get yr labs done.
518031 tn?1295575374 This is day 5 for me being clean and obtaining sleep has also been an issue, as in my situation it's due to anxiety attacks waking me up every few hours. I found that Benadryl, an OTC antihistamine has the effect of making me feel very drowsy, especially if purchased in the sleep aid version (2xBenedryl).
Avatar n tn How long can i use antihistamine for my daughter aged 7 months to relieve her of the eczema itching.
666921 tn?1254990618 I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it
