Common Questions and Answers about Antihistamine cats

antihistamine

Avatar n tn He prescribed veramist for my seasonal allergies and suggested that i take a combination of NASALCROM(nasal), PATADAY(eyes), and intol (chest), ten minutes before entering a home with cats. Initially i saw great results with no allergies for about 3 or 4 hours. I did this with success for a few months. Then i began to notice that i still get nasal allergies when i enter a home with a cat (eyes and chest seem to be fine).
Avatar n tn I am severely allergic to dogs and cats. Asthma, runny nose, etc.; I break out in hives if one licks me. Been like this since childhood, though my symptoms have lessened over the years. I'm now 47. My parents got a dog a few years ago, but over time I have acclimated somewhat and now this particular animal doesn't seem to other me. I do not live with them, so my contact with the dog was sporadic. My wife would like to buy a dog.
Avatar f tn s very active. STEROIDS are NOT good for cats. they can lead to many long term problems, even 1 dose can lead to DIABETES in cats. Is the Vet prescribing this for some sort of pain control, for inflammation? There MUST be a a very good reason for wanting a kitty to take this medication. I will send you a link to a website for more info on side effects. keep in touch. http://www.marvistavet.com/html/prednisone.
Avatar n tn How long can i use antihistamine for my daughter aged 7 months to relieve her of the eczema itching.
666921 tn?1254990618 I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it
Avatar f tn So my 4 year old has moderate asthma...She is severely allergic to cats among other things. What about going on a trip and staying with family who has cats? Is that ok? Also, my mom has a cat and a dog, Can she have sleep overs at my moms? She is taking 2 breathing treatments a day. We don't have any animals in our home but do I have to take it to the extreme?
Avatar n tn I had been treating my 3 cats for fleas and thought one had gone crazy and bitten me all over my stomach in the night. There are about 40 pink flat bumps, but they don't itch. Could this be a type of viral infection rash?
681148 tn?1437661591 I'm not sure about the dosage on the other antihistamines, but I like your suggestion about giving the Zyrtec to her everday for now. It's easier figuring out allergy medicine for myself, because the dosages for the antihistamines are the right dosages for humans. But, I definitely don't want to give the wrong dosage to my kitty. So, until I know more info about other antihistamines for cats, I really don't want to give her anything but the Zyrtec.
1409507 tn?1281917406 I have 2 cats. Took in, wild. Luv em. But their hair in my face makes me cough. litter is worse. Pouring fresh litter, i have to turn on bathrm vent & try to hold my breath so I don't cough cough cough cough. Still, I cough, cough. Any suggestions...other than "get rid of the cats"?
Avatar m tn Background: I am allergic to dogs and cats and begin to wheeze around them. I can't breathe well in peoples homes with a few dogs or cats. I'm not even sure what it is about the animal that I am allergic to. The dander? The hair? something else? Well, anyway, that is not my question. Problem: I am currently seaching for a new apartment. The problem is that most of them take dogs and cats, or, one or the other. "No pet" buildings are few and far between.
Avatar n tn Anyone know if it is possible to develop an allergy to cats over time? And if it can take the form of a slight, skin-based reaction? Over the past few days all of the tiny cat scratched on my body (and there are a ton; I have two kittens) have become red, inflamed and itchy. Agh!
Avatar f tn You can't just randomly put different medicines from your medicine cabinet on the cats. Cats will lick off whatever is put on them. It's probably poisonous to them. And, do not give them prednisone that was prescribed for you. You have no idea how to dose a cat according to body weight. Really, your best bet is a rescue group. Do some research online. I'm sure there's something out there that's a reasonable distance from you.
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
Avatar m tn You could just have chronic allergies and need to take patenol longer and use oral antihistamine as well. Dry eyes could be involved. Oral flax and fish oil may help. Maybe you didn't take the doxy long enough - perhaps minocycline very low dose with food might be easier on you. Sterilid or Ocusoft Plus lid cleanser pads might help for certain cases. I expect culture to be negative because you have been on antibiotics and often these cases are not bacteria related. Michael J.
Avatar m tn I am in japan, taking refuge 800 miles to the South of tokyo after the earthquake and radiation leak. Eventually we will go back. The problem is that we took the cats on their first air trip ever. Even going to the vets, I recently noticed that Willy is breathing with his mouth open out of fear. Alice is less obviously frightened, though as a high strung cat (both are rescues from the Japan cat Network), she tends to cower in the cage and for a day after arrival.
Avatar f tn not life or death type allergies, but sneezing, itchy nose and eyes, headaches. I take a one a day antihistamine to deal with it. .. but it says on the box not to take if pregnant. Im only 7 weeks, and have stopped taking them... but my allergies are horrible at the moment. All the sneezing is not helping with my morning sickness. During my last pregancey my symptoms actually went away but not this time... my question is can i take my antihistamine?
Avatar f tn t know about how Allegra would help your skin, it is an antihistamine though so it would probably help with it minimally. I would suggest you get an emulsifying ointment from your pharmacist though.
Avatar m tn a simple blood test can tell you how sensitive you are to cats etc. I am not sure what type of antihistamine you took, but there are several others that may control your allergy better, especially if you plan on living in the same home as teh cat you seem to be allergic to .
Avatar n tn Was tested and found to be allergic to eggs, sweet oranges, cats, barn animals, all trees, and grasses. She now, thinks that she has (outgrown) her asthma and her allergies to eggs and sweet oranges.. Her hives/welts is always present after she has contact with water. No matter the temperature or, be it salt water or non. She had mono. when she was in her 3rd yr. of college. Do you think could be her underlying problem?
Avatar f tn and she prescribed a stronger inhaler which is diskus (which i was not able to buy) and also she gave me antihistamine for my clogged nose and also prescribed a mucolytic. after taking the pred for 5 days my breathing got better my cough was better my phlegm was just plain white thick phlegm it's the best i have ever felt for the last 4 weeks. so i went through finishing the rest of my med which are montelukast, doxofylline, antihistamine, and mucolitic.
Avatar n tn But I have always had cats and have never ever been allergic to them. My cats also sleep with me each night and this only happens once or twice every 14 days. Could a simple allergy test tell me what it is? I don't have insurance and I don't know how much those cost. I don't think it is eczema based on what I know about this skin condition and what I have read. I did the calimine lotion and it really does nothing for me.
Avatar f tn no nose bleeds in cats aren't common at anytime of the year. I'm glad you are gettin her in for a Vet check today, could be a sign of very high blood pressure or a polyp in the nose.
Avatar f tn I have another cat and a dog that get Frontlined along with nieve every 3month. I use indorex flea spray in my home every 10month (it lasts 12month) and my cats are indoor cats. I read on here about allergies to fleas but she has had fleas before (when we got her) and she did not have a reaction then. She's been completely clean for over a year now so I'm pretty sure it's not fleas. I've also seen ringworm on a cat and it's not this either.
