Antibiotics yeast acidophilus

Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics yeast acidophilus

antibiotics

Avatar f tn The acidophilus will be safer than any of the other medications that you are on. It's likely that the reason you have a yeast infection is because you are on antibiotics. Or are the antibiotics to treat the potential UTI or it could've been thrush in the first place. When the doctor prescribed the antibiotics for you did he do a swab and take a urine sample for culture. If you have an UTI then you need to be on the correct antibiotics or that infection can spread to the kidneys.
653169 tn?1303446369 Make sure you get the probiotics/acidophilus from a health food store as opposed to a drug store. They are of MUCH higher quality and will make all the difference! If they are to be refrigerated, this will assure you they are of high quality and contain live bacteria. Probiotics with dead bacteria are basically good for nothing. The antibiotic will not kill the acidophilus. It is always a good idea to take acidophilus while taking antibiotics.
Avatar f tn My Lyme doc recommended a yeast-based probiotic (that is, not acidophilus) so that it could be taken at any time of day and taken with food. One brand I am aware of Florastor, but there are others. The more usual acidophilus-based probiotics cannot be taken with or near antibiotics, because acidophilus is a 'good' bacteria, but the antibiotics don't know it's 'good' and go ahead and kill it anyway.
5806286 tn?1375050370 I agree with the above. I don't know about the cider bath..but I eat loads of yogurt...sugar free aka no fruit...and if you actually apply a plain yogurt right to your lady parts it can ease any itching etc. The acidophilus is also great. Before pregnancy any time I was put on antibiotics I'd take them lots to avoid a yeast infection.
Avatar f tn I have to be very careful with what I use to wash and also my food intake. Antibiotics can also bring out the yeast problem, because the antibiotics not only kill the bad bacteria, but also the good bacteria. That is why the acidophilus is a good thing for you to take. If you get desperate and have no meds left should you be unfortunate enough to get the condition back again, don't forget to apply yogurt to the skin with the problem. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn I HATE those kinds of yeast infections! Have you also tried probiotics, acidophilus, boric acid capsules, and dietary modification? To answer your question, there should be no reason why an IUD would be contraindicated--you are correct that yeast rarely spreads into the upper reproductive tract. If you are switching from oral contraceptives, that may help with the yeast problem. OCs seem to make people more prone to yeast infection. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I took oral antibiotics for about 4 years and had no real issues with adverse effects after I stopped.
502526 tn?1248887426 I am worried about the potential of a yeast infection and was curious if it is safe to take multi-enzyme digestive enzymes, which are 100% vegetarian based. I know the benefits of eating yogurt, but to be very honest, it is making my stomach turn over the idea of eating it now. It is one of my new food aversions. I have taken these enzymes in the past and they have 100 million live lactobacillus acidophilus cells in it, which should be great for preventing yeast infections...can you advise?
1094370 tn?1317134825 Good to hear you are moving ahead ... but sorry it's a hassle! :( I put together a daily meds/supps chart for myself, and used a timer (on my cellphone) to remind me when it was time to take the next batch of pills, and then I'd check off the little box on the chart for each pill time accomplished. So, for each week I'd start a new chart with days across the top, and hours down the side, with the name of each med to be taken at which time. Sounds complicated, but it wasn't.
461781 tn?1285609481 I know I should be posting this maybe in the Womens health forum but I'm sure you guys would be able to help me too. So I had af from last Sunday tru Wednesday. Now I think I'm getting bv :( I don't have any discharge just different odor from usual. I know I'm usually dry and sometimes get irritated by tampons etc after af so I don't know if I should wait it out or go to Dr. to get some antibiotics.
Avatar f tn Willing to bet from the antibiotics you've developed both a vaginal yeast infection and oral thrush. Antibiotics can mess with the amounts of good and bad bacteria found in both the vagina and mouth, which leave the pH/flora imbalanced. Seconded what 2terrified said - you need to see your doctor and/or OBGYN for further treatment. I would also suggest, if haven't performed already, getting a standard panel for STD/STIs.
Avatar m tn I have recently come off about an 8 week course of Levaquin and Metronidazole for a jaw infection that stemmed from a cracked tooth. Prior to the fore mentioned antibiotics I took clindamycin for two weeks but since it really gave me bad diarrhea I was put on the others. During the past eight weeks I have lost about 10 lbs when I feel that my calorie intake has been greater then normal. I suspect because my digestive system has not been normal that the meds was probably the cause.
964234 tn?1331949207 They recomend eatting yogurt while on antibiotics. I use AZO yeast it's a pill form of acidophilus. You can get it at walmart right next to the creams and inserts. My OB said it was ok to take while pregnant. You might ask your Dr if you can use that. It takes a few days longer to cure.
798555 tn?1292787551 are not protecting you UNLESS taken at least an hour away from the time you take antibiotics. Otherwise, the antibiotics kill the acidophilus. I know, it all makes my head explode too. My doc liked Florastor/S.boulardii because then the patients [with Lyme fog-brain] didn't have to worry about when to take what how far apart. Because I reacted badly to the Florastor, I went on acidophilus instead but had to be VERY careful to take it at least an hour before taking antibiotics.
328799 tn?1276565732 re going to have to start taking after the antibiotics are done, is some Acidophilus. The antibiotics not only wipe out the bad bacteria in your body, it takes out the good stuff too. Acidophilus will help you get the good stuff back! 250mg 2x a day is a normal doseage for an antibiotic.
Avatar f tn Hi lizzy166, I would suggest going back to the doctor who prescribed you the antibiotics. Tell the doctor you've developed a vaginal itch and ask your doctor what she or he suggests for relief. Good luck.
255722 tn?1452546541 Wow! What saga you are living -- and good for you for plowing ahead. Your history is a perfect example of how clueless much of the medical profession is regarding Lyme. Big hug to you for plowing ahead and not giving up till you got some reasonable answers. I am not familiar with Pharmasan, will have to read up on it. ... but IGeneX comes through again!
Avatar n tn i know the recommended remedy for this is a course of antibiotics, but they will give me a yeast infection. (normalyl once i get a yeast infection i can;t get rid of it for weeks/months.) can i treat the uti naturally?
Avatar m tn t wipe them out as soon as you take them. Regular antibiotics like acidophilus are bacterial (not yeast like Florastor), and antibiotics kill the acidophilus UNLESS the meds and the probiotics are taken at least several hours apart so they don't run into each other in the body.
Avatar f tn ) Most Drs are okay with you skipping the office visit and just going to the lab for the UA, and then telling you the symptoms and how to treat a yeast infection if that is what is going on...Also, if you do have yeast, either take probiotic tabs to replenish your good bacteria, or eat yogurt (or anything with acidophilus) with active cultures. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I also take Valtrex as needed for periodic nasal cold sores. I recently read that steroids and antibiotics can damage ones immune system causing yeast infections. Recently, a referred OB/GYN prescribed Fluconazole 150 mg weekly for a 6 months. The yeast continued to resurface throughout the months. I control my carb/sugar intake yet I do seem to crave sugar. I have even gone from a size 10 to a size 4. Please help me! I feel like I have suffered long enough.
Avatar f tn Agree with everything in the above post!!! It is a good idea to eat yogurt because the probiotics in it neutralize your ph in your "area" so that the yeast can't grow. I always eat yogurt when I am on antibiotics and if I don't I always get a yeast infection. Also wearing cotton underwear is the best thing because it is breathable. I hope everything works out ok for you. Good luck.
Avatar f tn CalGal, And sorry I hijacked this thread. Thank you for edu-bi-cating me, I understand the role of probiotics much better now. I don't want to give out bad advice. Funny thing is, it coincides with me taking antibiotics recently, first time since 1990s, for a very scary breast issue, so I'm glad to know it's okay to take acidophilus with antibiotics... I invariably have a hard time with antibiotics and can't wait to get acidophilus in me after.
Avatar f tn I was on antibiotics for an ear infection and now have a yeast infection. The GP gave me a RX for Diflucan. I took that much earlier tonite. I just happened to read the Prescription info sheet & it has Xanax as an interacting drug but it doesnt say how. I tried googling and cant see why it shouldnt be taken.. I did see where under Xanax it says one of the drugs to avoid is Diflucan. Why would an antifungal med interact with a sedative?
1138188 tn?1312341243 I am very prone to yeast infections and have to get something for my OB when I get them(usually after taking antibiotics) OTC meds dont work for me.. You should try taking Acidophilus or eating probiotic yoghurt on a daily basis to help prevent them? I found since started this I am not getting them as frequent.
